Hello this is my attempt to build a team around two of my favorite sweeprs; Gyrados and Lucario. I don't have much of a story behind it so here comes the team.
Team at a Glance:
Forretress-Focus Sash
Relaxed
252 HP/112 Attack/144 Defense
Spikes
Stealth Rock
Gyro Ball
Earthquake
Forretress the pokemon that sets it all in motion. With spikes and stealth rock, I can potentially set up entry hazards early which will help Gyarados and Lucario sweep better. Forretress might not seem like the ideal lead but it can do many things as once such as damage Azelf and Aerodactly with gyro ball and hit Metagross and Heatran with earthquake. Focus sash helps me ensure that stealth rock will always gets up as this is essential for Gyarados and Lucario sweeping.
Gyarados-Life Orb
Jolly
252 Attack/252 Speed/6 Special Defense
Dragon Dance
Waterfall
Ice Fang
Earthquake
The first of my main sweepers. This set is feroscious because after a DD, it outspeeds a lot and with life orb, it hits very hard. I don't think there's that much that needs explaining, waterfall's for fires, grounds and rocks, ice fang is for dragons and fliers and earthquake is for steels and electrics.
Houndoom-Blackglasses
Mild
80 Attack/212 Special Attack/218 Speed
Sucker Punch
Pursuit
Fire Blast
Dark Pulse
Houndoom is essential in this team. When thinking over possible counters for Lucario and Gyarados, Celebi and the Rotom Appliances showed up on both lists. So I needed a pokemon that can handle both of them. Houndoom is the only pokemon that can do this without worrying about Will-O-Wisp from Rotom. Sucker Punch is for if they stay in, pursuit is if they switch out. Fire Blast helps scorch Celebi and Dark Pulse helps destroy the Rotom Formes. I could have put a hidden power in the final spot but Houndoom's one and only job is to remove Celebi and Rotom from the game so Dark Pulse is extra insurance for this job.
Vaporeon-Leftovers
Bold
188 HP/252 Defense/70 Speed
Wish
Surf
Protect
Toxic
With the three pokemon listed previously, I had no way to beat bulky waters. Vaporeon solves this problem by being able to switch into their water attacks and then poison them with toxic and thus enabling Gyarados and Lucario to finish them off later. Also the wish support can't hurt because Gyarados is SR weak and being able to heal him is always a plus.
Flygon-Choice Scarf
Jolly
252 Attack/252 Speed/6 HP
Outrage
U-Turn
Stone Edge
Earthquake
The best way to rack up entry hazard damage is to cause switches. Due to Scarfgon's insane speed, this thing will be causing a lot of swithes. It's job is to cause switches and get out with u-turn and then come back in later to cause more switches. He also serves as insurance just incase a DDMence or AgiliGross is threatening a sweep.
Lucario-Life Orb
Jolly
252 Attack/252 Speed/6 HP
Swords Dance
Extremespeed
Close Combat
Stone Edge
The second half of my sweeping duo and the best late-game sweeper in the game, period. The only question was which move should go in the final slot. The possibilites were ice punch, crunch or stone edge. I didn't need ice punch as Gliscor has no chance against Vaporeon, crunch is also uneeded as Houndoom beats the Rotom formes so stone edge felt like the best fit. Stone edge also helps because I have trouble against Zapdos so I can surprise Zapdos by outspeeding and killing it with Stone edge. I went with jolly because I found that some key pokemon (Salamence, Zapdos) are outspeed with jolly, thus allowing me to KO them and not have to switch out, thus ending my theme.
Well here you have it, this is team Gyarados and Lucario sweep. Any advice is appreciated. I was going to post my thought process below but I pretty much covered it above.
I am willing to listen to any suggestions and no one in my team has a permanent spot (except maybe Houndoom as he's been doing great for me thusfar and absolutely nobody expects him).
