It's the fact that, imo, he appears rather feminine in comparison to his original look in the 2nd gen era, was all.

I even see Roark as male, and probably would if he removed the helmet. It's probably just some weird thing about my own views of the characters, I suppose.
 
I thought he was a female until I saw the front sprite out side the game.
the long hair and Impresionable childhood is the main cause of people thinking He/she/it is female
 
Well, I thought she was of the opposite gender of what she is, so I don't see why you're getting confused. ;)

And it's relevant since someeone mentioned Roark. :p
 
I think the new rival sprite looks wicked! Just love it. Not sure about Jimmy's new sprite though, kind of makes him look a bit too young and the replacement of Marina was just so cruel! Especially since she had a recent anime apearence... :'( Oh well she's history now so I might as well forget about her, and at least they kept Jimmy.
 
He's not called Jimmy. He never has been called Jimmy as a default name in any game. She's not called Marina. She has never been called Marina as a default name in any game.

They're Gold, and Kris.

They're called gold and kris in the manga and theyre called jimmy and marina in the anime. They both are meant to represent the same character so its the same ash or red argument.
 
Gold and Kris are the default names for the game characters in the games. Jimmy and Marina never have been. Similarly, the ingame character is not, and has never been, Ash. I mean, damn, it says very clearly in the actual game "RED". That's a bit of a clue his name is Red, huh?

The Pokemon anime is the retarded brother of the Pokemon games. Smogon isn't the place for fanboys.

I watch the anime :|

Sure I skip every 30 or so episodes and only watch the Team Galactic appearances/Hunter J appearances/Butch & Cassidy appearances. The anime is a lot better than it used to be (Hunter J basically attempted to KILL Ash like twice). But whatever, that doesn't pertain to this topic. The point being Smogon is a place for people with an interest in competitive battling. Outside of that, they could have interests in football/programming/fashion/fishing or whatever turns their crank.

As for Jimmy and Marina = Gold and Kris, you get point. Is Gold referenced as Gold by Pokemon Company officials? Pokemon Manga sure, but again, an off-shoot.
 
On top of that if the new designs are being called Heart and Soul you guys are wasting your time in "correcting" him because you're just as wrong. You know which character he's talking about so leave it at that.

Isn't Roark's dad the Steel gym leader from Sinnoh (forgot his name)?

Also, I thought Roark was a girl too.

But he [HGSS Silver] looks like, um..., a normal kid who could rival Gold, not a bad guy.
 
Let's try to keep the discussion on HG/SS, not whether gay adoption is popular in Sinnoh (wtf) or if the manga or anime is cool. It's not really important.
 
Do you think pryce is gonna be tougher than jasmine this time around? I mean lv 30 piloswine? By that time most if not all of your pokes are reaching lv 40.

Yeah, he should be tougher this time. It was odd how his Pokemon were weaker than Jasmine's.. I believe it was possible to fight Pryce before Jasmine (and Chuck?) though, which would be why his Pokemon were weak. They should just set a guard stopping you from entering the gym until you have 6 badges and up his levels. That way young lost players wouldn't stumble upon a level 35 Piloswine before reaching Olivine.
