Most Generation PRNG Help / Information

Okay, I've now done this twice, and the result has been the same. I get a Giratina that is Adamant 16/23/20/9/5/24. This can only result from the seed F80F0262. This seed only occurs at frames 351, 429, 441, and 457. I just don't understand how this would happen. I simply ran the 10 coin tosses to confirm that I had hit the seed, opened up my Journal, turned to a page that had one of the catch lines, turned to an adjacent one that had that line, and rinsed and repeated. Does turning to a page that doesn't have one of these messages up the frame count? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Of course they would still have the same seeds, but I still don't know why I'm not getting the right frame :(

Looks about right. A few things you should check: Are you sure you're hitting your seed? Are you sure you're using Method J instead of Method 1 to generate your Target Frame? Do you have any roaming legends?

Turning to a random journal page without a Defeated or Caught wild pokemon will not advance the RNG.

I'm positive I'm hitting my seed because even the Giratina I catch is only from that seed. I am definitely using method one. There aren't any roaming legends at my point in the game, are there? So yeah, I'm pretty clueless at the moment :(

Method 1? You should be using Method J for non-roaming legends.

Try simply catching one as soon as you enter the game and verifying that is on frame 12. If it is not, adjust accordingly. Some people have reporter seeing this on different frames.

hey mingot i am breeding for a shiny pokemon... and i did everything the RNG reporter told me to do, i got the nature right but the pokemon is not shiny ><" what do you think i did wrong? :S

Okay so I'm trying to catch a perfect scyther. I found a spread on frame 882. So, I hit my delay, and now I have to do the journal flips, right? I'm just a little confused. How do I know what the monster frame is?

?

Monster Frame
- This number represents the frame number that a Pokémon will land on when soft resetting and then immediately capturing it without doing anything to advance the RNG. Please see the list in the "Creation Methods for Captured Pokémon" which is below.

So it's 2, since I'm sweet scenting in the grass?

Ok, I've decided to choose another spread, this time from the special spreads text since I want a pichu from the trophy garden. The info.

c0080269, 85, 2370720e, , Modest, 0, 31, 21, 31, 31, 31, 30, Ice, 68, F, F, F, F

Now, I use the seed to time app. to come up with the date and time I need to hit continue which is:

4/30/2009

8:57:14

Which means I have to subtract 15 seconds from that time to get a time of 8:56:59, which means I set my DS clock to 8:56:00 and when it reaches :59 I reset then go as fast as I can to the Continue screen and if everything went right I should have hit the correct seconds, delay, and after some journal flips, the right frame. Which by the way:

85 - 1 - 2 - 3 = 79/2 = 39.5 Journal Flips <----Do I round down or up for the journal flips? Also how would I know/figure out the adjacent spreads for this particular seed?

Well, they are really not spreadsheets, they are CSV (comma delimited text) files. Open one in notepad or another text editor to see. I am not sure what spreadsheet software you are using, but if it is excel highlight the entire row and, from the right mouse button menu, select format and then choose text.

What is going on is that excel is saying "these must be numbers" and replacing the ones it cannot understand (visually, the underlying text is still there) as '########'. If you select the actual cell you will see that the contents show up in the edit field under the menu.

As for them being 'not 8 characters' I would be surprised if any were MORE than 8 characters in the display, but not if some were less, because excel will not generally show leading zeros. Leading zeros do not change a number. I used to think this was common knowledge, but it seems to come up daily (usual in regards to SID) so I guess it's important for me to say this here and to likely in the OP:

01 is the same as 1.

00001 is the same as 1.

0000000000001 is the same as 1.

So anywhere you enter a number the choice between entering 1 or 0000000001 or 00001 is up to the user and it really does not make any difference. Because they are the same number.
I know that they're not really spreadsheets, but I know that the point of a CSV is to be able to view/manipulate it in spreadsheet software. I'm using Excel 2007. When I right-clicked and formatted the cells as pure text (I had actually already tried this), R4C1 of the physical list changed from "########" to "4.2E+296". I know that leading zeros do not change a number; it just caught my eye that a few numbers were less digits than the others. As for having more than 8 digits, R8C1 of the Trick Room physical list is "480000000000".

Well, I finally got around to doing some RNG abuse, and after a day and a half of soft-resetting I finally have my Bold 31/x/31/31/31/30 Cresselia! :L

The first couple times I actually managed to hit the delay and time, I had the monster frame wrong, which was rather frustrating, but I'd say it was worth the time. Thanks for all the work you guys have put into this project.

Now, on to Darkrai..

EDIT: @Shelcario: You would walk 128 steps with an odd number of Pokеmon in your party (the number of frames advanced equals the number in your party) to get the frame down to an even number. Make sure you walk EXACTLY 128 or you may inadvertently advance the frame more. Then divide THAT by 2 and flip the journal that many times. Also make sure you account for the Monster Frame (listed toward the bottom of the first post).

Ok, it seems your game may be the one that only hits even or odds delay. And the way for you to change it may only be by re-saving. Or you can just change the year and go for one of the even delays.

But I've hit a Delay of 599 before with the same exact game.

EDIT: Oh, it may be that I have a GBA inserted. Lemme try it when it's removed.

Yes, your monster frame in this case is 2. However, I suggest you check to see if Sweet Scent (Grass/Cave) is the right slot for where you are.

Thanks. And I found a new spread that works for scyther, encounter slot 6. But it lists the frame as 843 and the Actual Frame as 848... which do I use?

Thanks again. So, to confirm, it's 843 - 2 = 841, since I have no roaming legends. So I would walk 128 steps to make it 836, then flip the journal 417 times and use sweet scent. And I can switch to the step counter app, and use a repel without problems?

You'll be in grass anyway, it's much easier to just turn on spot without even moving. Remember a turn or a step in grass = 1. So make one turn, and you'll be at 840. Then do 420 flips.

Ok, I've tried everything possible for the past 5 hours and cannot get this to work.

My calibration: 14, 604.

I'm trying to use it to capture a shiny pokemon with 31 atk and 31 spe (as a test). I've got my sID and I get the initial seed and stuff, but when I do the coin flip test it gets messed up. I would be really grateful if anyone could help =] .

Now I just input that specific seed from the seed to times finder which is:

BF08025D and now I'm getting a different time of 8:56:15 from my original target time for that specific spread from the special spreads text which was 8:57:14, my question is: Which of the times should I follow for my target time?

Alright, this is starting to hurt my brain.

I selected a spread for a shiny Darkrai. Before anyone asks, I have confirmed my SID.

The reporter says it should occur at every even frame up through 30. So it should occur at 2, 4, 6, 8, etc. I have one roamer and Darkrai's frame is one, so I shouldn't even have to advance the RNG.

I've been able to hit the time and delay a couple times. Not only is he not shiny, but the spread is considerably different than the one I selected. For kicks, I've also tried advancing the RNG to several other frames where it should occur to no luck.

EDIT: I also captured the Darkrai each time to verify the time/delay and frame. All of them landed on my target.

the formula is target frame - monster frame - number of roamers. You still have to advance the rng unless your target frame was 2
