After sitting down and brainstorming differnt critters to base my design off of on Saturday, I eventually came up with an animal that would work towards either of the two sub-types that were to be selected (and ground was the ultimate winner) and towards and offensive or defensive bias.
The animal that I had in mind was a komodo dragon. After some playing around with a basic komodo dragon body, I eventually came up with something rather simple, kinda like a Pokemon from one of the earlier generations. This is not the original piece that I used to create the Pokemon, but, rather, this is meant to show the Pokemon in its pencil colored and photo edited beauty.
The coloration of the majority of its body and the fact that it is a land-based creature makes this komodo dragon Pokemon look like a ground type while the dark sphere-like scales on its paws, along its back and tail, and around its evil looking red eyes gives it more of a dark-type feel. The dark claws seem to add to this dark-type appeal, but not to the extent that I was going for.
Or, at the very least, that is what I was thinking when I drew this.
Looking at it, before I make the final submission, I probably should go back in and (1.) color in the pit of its nose so that it is not white, (2.) see what I can do to make that background look whiter, and (3.) make its eyes "glow" a little bit since they don't seem to do that very well. Both should be easily done on the computer.
Also, I do fancy Caladboldg's armadillo design, Atyroki's thorny devil design, Mysteriousfellow's duststorm design, and Buffalo Wings' stegasaurus-like design. All of them are really good concepts that I never thought of. I cannot choose a favorite out of those four, however.
I also realize that the komodo dragon design that I came up with is a similar sort of concept to bubmaniacbob's gila monster. By no means was that intentional.
Edit:
Caladboldge, I would have said something had I seen it sooner, but I think that the color scheme change works much better with the typing than before. I like both the spikey and non-spikey version as they work well with the typing, so I think whether you add the spikes or not should be your choice and your choice alone. Either that, or you could just say that one is male and the other is female.
