No kidding. I might make a new thread listing exactly what features will be in the initial release and responses to some common questions so we stop getting the same things.

Just make sure you release the source code :)

And have your giving any thought to setting up server to run in the JVM to allow for servers to be set up by a noob at a moments notice?

It was clearly stated in the opening post that Shoddy Battle 2 is free software, and it even provides a link to the current source code. Here it is again: http://shoddybattle.hg.sf.net/hgweb/shoddybattle/ You can browse and download all of the Shoddy Battle 2 source code from the hg repository, although the program isn't finished yet, so don't expect any support compiling the code; I recommend you just wait until we actually finish if you want to run a server.
 
This is not just nearly complete, it is looking great! There is only one thing I can think of - In the odd case that Shaymin - S is frozen, does he revert back to land form? Cause he didn't in shoddy 1.
 
Sounds much better. Hopefully you won't screw everything up. The addition of double battles, though, and even triple battles, seems very good. Perhaps you can have a setting to add music to battles.

prolly not been answered, not reading 20 pages at this time.
having seen netbattles system and this one, i prefer netbattles supremepoints as they dont decay for a start which is annoying (specially when it decays by more then 1 wins worth a day :/) which means when you cant get on. you cant climb so well.
which brings me my next question regarding this, matchups themselves, best way to get points is to of course, beat someone good, which i wish to do, but having recently come back i'm now stuck down in the late 1200's fighting teams i dont really want to fight, and getting punished for the fact winning gives like 4 points losing loses more (half the time its ONE poke you get a miss on that never pops up on teams you want to face :/).
to the point, i currently am FORCED to face teams around and about, something i really don't want to do, as we are all here to play the best players and its rare i ever face someone with enough points above by this point in rating to acctually make progress very quickly.
with the netbattle supreme points yes you get to silly high ratings quickly, BUT at least you had the chance to face the big guns (anything above 22k is such on there)
but what netbattle doesnt have, is true unrated (rated just adds to your wins/losses) and no find tab, which really is not an option.
so here is the suggestion in brief
. no rank decay
. find <rating - rating>
. unrated find tab (great for testing, or acctually having some fun)
of course the system should stay as it is needed for voting criteria etc and there is nothing really wrong with the system itself apart from the point gain/loss fluctation is too heavy either way sometimes the find <rating - rating> will be a brilliant feature to find true skill though.
beat noobs get not much, (lose to noobs and lose loads, obviously as punishment for trying to cheat the rating)
beat good player you earn decent rank (lose you lose minimal, afterall its a gamble you have to lose something)
i know there are some flaws, like high ranks not opening up to the low ranks (but then why would they not, they are good, they can beat them)
might be fun for those looking for a decent fight

looking forward to double battles, thats what i really wanted for a long while
 
Your question doesn't have to do with Shoddy Battle 2 exactly, but about the rating system. And the points you gain or lose depend on your deviation, not entirely on who you are facing. As for changing the ranking system for SB2, I'm sure many people have asked for a change, especially X-Act, who has a new system in the works right now, GLIXARE.
 
Hmm... I'm looking at the code, and from what I can tell, the type names aren't hard-coded into the client anymore.

This is very good news for anyone wanting to make a custom type on a server he or she might make when this comes out. ...Like myself, obviously.
 
Honestly, I'm pretty sure they:
a) Are still in alpha. This means that for the time being they can test it themselves
b) Once it goes beta, they'll already know people to beta test for them.

Beta testing is more than "ooh I like the program", you have to purposely look for ways to destroy the program. Just be patient, I'm sure they'll get it done eventually.
 
I'd like the ability to check what the random damage modifier roll was for each attack in the battle log, seeing as how you can already tell using a battle calculator.
 
That's a nice idea; including the behind-the-scenes stuff in the battle log (like how much damage an attack really did regardless of strict damage clause). *shrug*
 
However, if you could check the damage modifier during the battle, it could give you a major tip-off of your opponent's EVs. I could see maybe in the log after the battle has finished, but that might be hard to do.

instead of the annoying text u had like a voice type thing like from pokemon staduim somethings happen so fast u miss things that happen in the battle im jus throwing out idea its prolly really hard to do but it would be cool if the guy would say some cool stuff like that fire blast hit hard hes burned, paralyzed etc. with some epic backround music
 
Would it be possible to list the pokemon in "Team builer" in alphabetical order?

I apologize if this has already been addressed or asked before.
 
Maybe an idea for Shoddy 2(the chance that the creaters will notice it is nihil, but anyways). I saw in the screenshots that your Pokemons HP is in figures, not in percentage. Maybe it could be possible to set that at own choice? Because I can imagine that a lot of people, like myself, prefere the percentage more than the total HP
 
I really don't think you should be aloud to have more than two pokemon out at a time in a
double battle. 6 pokemon on the field would be hectic and would make this new battle simluator very unlike regular pokemon. Also there should be a selection where you can choose single battle or double battle and each mode should have smogon specific tiers. But overall I like the idea of a new shoddy and best of luck making it


Edit You should also have a casual mode where no battle restrictions apply. and if at all possible pokemon battle revolution graphics would be awsome.
 
That'd be fun if we had a league of 6 on 6. That would be freaking crazy. The most hyperoffensive thing ever. Explosion FTW? We'd see a crapload of Ghosts, fast sweepers, choice items and priority attacks, not to mention Scizors.

And yes, showing HP as a % would be much more helpful.
