Shoddy Battle 2 (the future of Shoddy Battle)

I don't know if this would be too stressful for servers to take, but the ability to hold group chat types of things. Mainly this would be for quick tourneys people set up. You could also split it up into things like Social/Pokemon/etc.

I know it's kinda competing with IRC, but it can't hurt.

Hi. First off thanks, and keep up the good work. I know how hard it is to run something privately for the pleasure of others when you have your own personal conflicts, so the volunteer effort is really appreciated.
I might repeat some thing because I only read like the first 4 pages.
#1 - There was an idea about reconnecting to battles if you disconnect. I am totally for that, I don't know if you responded to this already so if you did, feel free to ignore me (you can ignore me even if you didn't answer it really). I often disconnect which gets rather annoying, because it hurts your ratings.
#2 - There was also a talk about resetting the ladder for yourself sort of. I don't know the mechanics of this and once again it might have been discussed but with this could you erase your win/loss record as well? In addition to your deviation and all that.
#3 - In chat, can you just right click on someone's name to get their record and everything? Maybe the same for your opponent?
Sorry if you answered any of these, and I am just mindlessly repeating them...
Once again. Thanks.

Client

* Sprite Loader capable of loading CAP sprites
* Show +/- for natures in teambuilder dropdown (eg. Jolly -Init +SAtk)
* Alternative way of nature selection: Two dropdown fields, select a - and a + stat and set nature depending on that)
* Notifications when a previously defined user comes online (eg. to see when a tourney opponent comes online)
* Chat message timestamps (as an option)
* "Auto-Rejecter" for challeges with a certain present clause or a certain absent clause (eg. if someone is not interested in Random Battles or such without Timed Battle Clause)
* In-Battle display of ladder rating for ladder matches (next to or below the username)
* Since the team builder is one of the most disputed matter of taste, support extensive customization (XML UI like XUL/Luxor/Xulux/... ?!)
* Tooltips for description of items / moves / abilities
* Overhaul Box system: it should be XML based and support set databases with description. A pokemon site should be able to offer a "package" (one single or a pack of XML files) with sets for pokemons, like in the smogon pokedex. An "Importer" should copy that into the box folder. It also should support hierarchies, eg "Smogon -> Azelf -> Plot Sweeper", "Pokemonexperte -> Azelf -> Plot Sweeper", "Martin -> Azelf -> Set 1" and Tags. I know there were many comments just saying "better box". How about integrating it directly into the team builder. After choosing a species, there should be another dropdown box on the pokemon stats internal frame where you can choose a certain set from all stored in the box for this species.

Client (Mods)

* Userlist search filter (Names, IP, ...) and sortable columns
* Filter by last login (Maybe a better solution than the "Inactive User Table" - maybe because I never really understood what the reason was for this feature)
* Show IP and login time of an user by context menu

Server

* Some basic checks for password strengh (Dread to think about how many empty passwords existing out there)
* IP Range Ban
* Username blacklist + wildcards (eg. forbid to register accounts like *admin*)
* Mode to disallow new logins and/or battles (to allow graceful shutdowns)
* Some 24/7 improvements, like dynamically reload config files (eg Ladders)
* "Positivistic Ladders": Define which pokemon are allowed instead of which ones are forbidden (This should be an alternative facility, not replacing the classical way)
* Support Tier (OU, BL, UU, any arbitrary name) display based on XML config for every metagame
* Offline PMs (!) - It is so extremly needed in long-running tournaments
* (Better) support for usage stats: regarding export, live view, ...

Well
In SB 2, I really expect a new mode of Saving
It's Save Film, well, besides Save Log.
Thanks to it, we can watch the battle absolutely live
Can it be true :toast: ?

P/s : My Eng is bad =.=

i'm a bit happy shoddy battle 2 isnt out on its ealiest deadline otherwise it would have come out before the changes in heart gold and soul silver.

anyway could you make us able to choice a hidden power (type and power) then the team builder find a legal iv combination for the legendary pokemon

it's really annoy to have to try random iv numbers untill i get lucky, the analysis those help sometimes but not always example zapdos (last time i checked)

I doubt you'd be able to save it as a video file. However, it would be cool if there was a way to save everything about the battle (teams, RNG rolls, and decisions), and then play it back within Shoddy itself. You'd then be able to use a standard screen-recording program to record the battle.

A screen recording program is a good alternative, but, i think it would be better if the simulator could make a video of the battle and in the end of the battle, ask if you want to save the video/replay or not, this way if the battle was good you save a replay, if not you don't save, with the screen recorder we don't have this option, you have to record the battle before knowing if it will be good or not.

For SB2, would it be possible for servers to have customizable battle backgrounds that the owner would be able to change, rather than use the system that is currently used, where the backgrounds are hard-coded into the client?

I dont know if this would be a more server question, but during the popup for a challenge could give the rules for Ubers,OU,UU and so on as just one selectable option, So you know that your not facing off against an arcues lead with your UU team (still a possible win.)

Perhaps a little superfluous, but perhaps trainer titles? I mean, we have our user names, but it would be nice if we could change the name of our team-owner, or give them a title. Like, if a team contains 5+ poison types the trainer title "Poison Specialist" or something becomes available.

Doug already created one.

Doug's solution is an external program. However, I have made a system for Shoddy Battle 2 that allows you to download sprite packages from a server or other sources.

About the team builder, I am going to try to revamp it to make it more user friendly, but there probably won't be EV sliders due to size limitations. Keep in mind though that since Shoddy Battle 2 uses a nice XML format for team files, anyone can easily make a team builder in their design of choice. There is no way that the built in team builder will be laid out using XML, but there's no reason someone couldn't throw together one by themselves using HTML/Javascript.

You should make it so the user has the ability to type in a pokemon's name,
and it will switch to that pokemon.
That would save a lot of people (me included) a lot of time.
(sorry if this has been proposed/done before.)

At the moment, private messages are too inconspicuous to the average user. Oftentimes, I don't even notice a private message has been sent to me until long after the other user has logged off. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's experienced that.

Maybe have the tab of newly sent private messages flash? Or even have private messages come up in a pop-up window? Of course, you'd have to implement the block/ignore feature that's been talked about in this thread to prevent abuse.

I don't know if the following has been suggested or not, but whatever, I find it a pressing issue while I battle:

I would really like an option in which one can choose to have the battle closed off to spectators. Hopefully the reasons are obvious enough.

well, i wont make any suggestion because you guys have your hands full enough with programming. thanks alot, and i look forward to it.

One thing I'd suggest is a battle tower rules tier, so people can play battle tower rules and train to make good teams for the battle tower, to know what works and what doesn't without having to train such Pokemon first. You know the rules, 3 pokemon a team, only one type of item per Pokemon, with a set banned list.

I'd also recommend a Pokemon Stadium style battle type that you choose six pokemon, and your opponent can see those six pokemon, but you only choose three to battle with.

Will you be able to save teams directly in the client instead of in a folder, so people who change computers frequently can access their teams without the need of an external drive?

Also, I don't think the chatroom really needs colored usernames for people with poor nightvision, although the spiffiness of it is really cool.

I don't know if this has been stated but list the Pokemon in alphabetical order, not by pokedex number it would make it much more easier.
