Explanation of tiering.

I think it would be a good thing to have an article explaining the tiering process we use. It should go over the concept of usage-based tiering, and the rationale behind it. Then it should include details, like what the precise definition and 'cutoff' of an OU Pokemon is. It should also describe the suspect testing process.

This article would serve both as a place to point novice members to when they start asking questions or coming in with misconceptions about tiering, and also clarify many matters for those more experienced on Smogon, but unsure about details of tiering. (Myself included). Finally, writing about it will focus the author on the issues, perhaps revealing some matters that need to be changed or clarified by Smogon's Policymakers.

I looked in Policy Review and in C&C, and I haven't been able to find out a lot of things I don't know about tiering and suspect testing. So I think a guide would be a good thing.

And linked to from a page you can find from the main page.
Actually it's not, the link to "articles" from the main page links to smogon/dp/articles not smogon/articles. The articles page is extremely well hidden from anyone who does not know the site well, I don't know of any direct links to it anywhere on site.

That's what he meant - he wants the article linked to from the main page. (his statement was an addition to mine, so it automatically takes the "needs to be")

ah, sorry my mistake. I only glanced at your post, just saw the link and looked at rbg's more closely without thinking about the possible meaning change.

Then I agree with RBG entirely.

This is sort of unrelated but I'm not sure where else to put it. On that articles page there's a "Spelling and Grammar Standards" article in which I believe I've found a mistake.

Always append 's to a noun when signifying a singular possessive (Latias's Soul Dew) or plural possessive that doesn't end in s (Lucario's Swords Dance), and simply a ' when signifying a plural possesive for a word that ends in s (All Latios' Draco Meteor).
In this example, unless I'm mistaken, "Latias's" should actually be "Latias'". If a singular possessive ends in s, an apostrophe and no s is added.

I know it's off-topic, but ... in that example, only one Latias would be holding Soul Dew, so Latias is singular, so an 's is added, not just a '. Would you say "Carlos' guitar" or "Carlos's guitar"? Pokemon names can be plural, but if it is singular possesive, it should always be with 's at the end.

I would say Carlos' guitar. I realize that it's singular. This is how I learned it was to be written, and I just looked it up and it appears that I'm right.

You can say either; Carlos's guitar is a more modern form. The point of the Spelling and Grammar Standards is to make sure that everyone uses the same form when there are alternatives.

I find it quite hilarious that this is turning into a Grammar and Spelling thread... Besides, it's possessive, not "possesive".

I entirely agree with RBG's suggestion on linking it from the main page.

Edit: The quoting is so annoying.
