Maybe it's just me, but I can totally imagine some sort of spectral flame going on, particularly around that ponytail thing. Ghost/Fighting or maybe even Ghost/Normal (I can finally have a viable mono-normal team!)? oh please please please.

Speaking of, what the game really needs is a lot more good Normal types, especially special attacking normals. So far the best normal-type dedicated special attackers are Porygon-Z, Porygon2, Togekiss, Exploud, and (given some huge setup), Dunsparce and Persian.

Speaking of speaking of, they should totally expand more on the physical/special split to complement the attacking stats of some pokemon. Meaning more special moves for rock, fighting, normal, ground, and steel. And more physical moves for fire, ghost, ice, psychic, electric, and water. Flash Cannon? Focus Blast? Power Gem? Elemental Punches? Not good enough, not when Pokemon like Starmie have Surf, Ice Beam, and Thunderbolt to play with.

-Dragon pokemon based off of Chinese Dragons
Rayquaza and Gyarados look alot like chinese dragons.
-Pokemon that could abuse Sunny Day as much as Kingdra, Ludicolo, etc. abuse Rain Dance. When was the last time you saw a Sunny Day team work as well as a Rain Dance team?
A Fire/Grass with Chlorophyll would be awesome yeah.
I'd also like to see a tanky grass pokemon with Technician and Giga Drain. (=
-Legendary Fighting and Legendary Bug pokemon, perhaps based off of the Tiger and the Centipede.
What about poison? They've also missed out.
As for bug, I reckon it'd be cool if it was a massive bug that was the legendary queen/mother of all Bug pokemon. I'd imagine it'd be one of the few gender specific legends - a female, and in the Bug egg group. When bred with a male bug, it'll produce the appropriate egg, and when bred with ditto... a random bug pokemon! Haha maybe not that last bit...

Not sure if this has been discussed yet.

This may be purely coincidental, but out of the Pokemon on this bag promoting the new movie, which ones seem conspicuous in that no major characters currently own them in the anime? Not counting the Johto legends.

It has, but anyway... both the Tangrowth and Mightyena. Don't think they mean anything though. Probably just some random Pokemon that the good guys in the movie that Ash & Co meet have, or something like that. I really wouldn't put much thought into this bag.

about time we get a mightyena evolution!

As for the pic on pokemon sunday, topheavy bipedal pokemon with claws and a ponytail...what could that be

You very well could be right about that. I'm not sold on it either way, but I found it pretty peculiar that Mightyena would be featured in this promo material.

Yeah... But it's no more weird or seemingly random than the Tangrowth. And since there's two weird Pokemon thrown together in there, it just would make much more sense for them to be the Character of the Day's Pokemon, rather than some sort of cryptic hint that one or both of them will be getting evolutions or an alternate form or something.

holy crap, is it just me, or does it look like....Sonic in werehog form?
He's copied zelda (turning into a wolf) now hes coming to pokemon

One thing I particularly want to see in the 5th Gen:

  • Ice & Water Pokemon are immune to Hail
Maybe a new pseudo-legendary (like TTar) that has Snow Warning would be nice so we're not reliant on Abomasnow.

Lol first time I saw that bag I was like "WTF is Mightyena doing there." But then:

I didn't draw this. It could be the hint that we all missed. Though if that's true it would be so freaking random xD

Oh BTW, I think it's a ghost/fighting type.

Edit: On pokebeach, they're now saying that this new pokemon might not be "Z". So now I'm really thinking mightyena evolution.

I liked the fox-looking one posted earlier a lot more, but eh, it's tough to speculate. Also, I'd be willing to bet the lower fluff of hair is not a tail. Look at its position on the body. I'm sure the Pokemon won't have its tail coming out of its left leg. (Sure, it could be connected to some longer tail bits we don't see, but that doesn't fit the aesthetic)

The only problem I would have that is that Poochyena and Mightyena are hyenas, and that is a two-legged thing. Then again we have a remora fish that evolves into an octopus.

There are only a few things i would really like to see in the future generation:
1. Ability altering items
2. A plot that isn't revolving around a legendary pokemon, just like the originals.
3. A Flying/Fighting type the knows both Brave Bird and Close Combat.

Mightyena - Werewolf Form?
That would be a bit anticlimactic :P

EDIT: Maybe the 5th generation will consist of many new forms of old Pokémon, with only a few new ones (including the legendaries). Seeing how many new forms got introduced in gen 4 (to test the public's reaction?), this could actually be a viable theory.

Slap me with a Barboach if this has already been suggested...

Here's a thought: maybe it's a Mightyena evolution, it's Phantom Ruler Z, AND it's legendary?

One thing they've never done is make a regular, run-of-the-mill Pokemon evolve into a one-of-a-kind legendary. How about an once-per-game method that lets you evolve a plain Pokemon like Mightyena into a unique legendary? Like some magical ritual under a full moon where the forces that be imbue our sad little Mightyena with the power of a Pokemon savior? Okay, maybe that's a bit melodramatic.

If it's true that the silhouette is the star of the movie, Z, then I think it's highly likely that it's a stand-alone legendary like the stars of most of the movies. But hey, they could throw us a curveball with this generation.

And yeah, Lucario isn't legendary and he was the star of a movie, so who's to say there isn't some compelling plot device that makes a Mightyena into a hero?

Considering Lucario's success, both competitively and popularity wise, it would make sense to follow his formula. Create a pokemon with a movie centered around it that becomes the face of the generation. Gen 1 had Pikachu, from the TV show. Gen 2 and 3 lacked that form of publicity. Gen 4 had Lucario. They'd be stupid not to give gen 5 a face like that.

If I recall correctly, the legendary pokemon played a rather minor role in G/S (and therefore in HG/SS as well).

pokebeach front page stated that this silhouette might not actually be "Z" of the movie, thus this could simply be another pokemon all together. For now, most of the evidence points to a Mightyena evo, so I'm placing my bets on that.

After all, multiple 'next-gen' pokemons were revealed in many of the other movies

On the other hand, Serebii states that Junichi Masuda confirmed that it is Z :/

Though I guess pokebeach is a bit more reliable innit?
