Why don't people ever use a Lustrous or Adamant Orb for their Palkia or Dialga respectively in competitive play?
Actually, the use of Lustrious Orb is perfectly viable because Palkia's main attacks are it's Water and Dragon attacks. See Palkia's analysis for example. No one uses the Adamant Orb because Steel-type moves suck in general.

Thanks, though I do believe Quick Claw is permanently banned, since it is not an available item in team builder.
No. It was simply never coded into Shoddy Battle 1 due to difficulties with the way Shoddy Battle 1 was coded. This is the same reason that certain other items weren't made available in the Team Builder in Shoddy Battle 1. Once Shoddy Battle 2 comes out, they should all be there.

What happens if the batteries die in your Pokéwalker if you have any Pokémon or items currently transferred onto it?

Edit: Thanks for answering Orb question supermarth

Oh I've been wondering this for a while, even though it seems pretty stupid I guess I should ask it. What exactly is Shoddy Battle as I believe it's called, and am I permitted to use it?

Edit: thanks cantab I'll definitely look into it some time

Shoddy Battle is a 'battle simulator'. It's a program that runs on your computer and lets you play Pokemon battles against other people. (It has a Find Match function, similar to PBR random-WiFi, so you don't need to know people to play against them). You can create any legal Pokemon in the 'Team Builder', so you don't have to worry about breeding and training and whatnot but can instead focus on making a great team and battling with it. It takes a bit of getting used to, as the visuals are a bit spartan, with no move animations. Many people's primary focus is on Shoddy, but it can also be used to test teams before you put in the effort of making them on the cartridge. (Though bear in mind that the Rotom Appliances are very common on Shoddy, but cannot be used on WiFi play, and there are metagame differences too.)

Hi, I'm making an OU stall team that tries to utilize mostly BL-UU Pokemon... What are two pokemon that would best fit the last two slots on this team?

Jumpluff
Cresselia
Blissey
Milotic

I've been having troubles with IRC. When I try to connect, it won't let me use my username, because it says that it's already in use. Also, when I get onto the server and join as otterpaw[1], I'm immediately kicked and the server sets me as otterpaw[2] having to completely re-register.

Okay, now that I know what Shoddy Battle is, how do I download it? Every time I try to download it, it just pulls up a new window with the following text in it:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

and I took the liberty of removing about 30 of from the page, what in the world is this?

Edit edit: I downloaded it now, for some reason I didn't have Java installed

I think that's code that's supposed to be used to display a new window or something. I can't for the life of me think of why that would happen like that.

Sorry but here's another question, you guys seem to be helping me out a lot so I should ask all my questions now. When it comes to the tier of a team, can you have Pokémon from the tier your playing in and any Pokémon from tiers below the one you are playing in or how does it work? Example of how I think it works: you can use any tier in Ubers, and you can use UU and NU and obviously OU but not Ubers in OU?

Edit: Cool thanks Ferrous

Correct, you can use the tier your playing in, or tiers "below" it.

I'd like to know some general guidelines on the differences between cartridge (tournament) metagame versus Shoddy Battle metagame. Should I start a thread for that or is there a better place to post? I don't really think it should be in the "ask a simple question" zone...

Yes, but how do I keep it at level 1 while the doubles battle? I can't figure out how not to get XP because Smeargle will just level up. :/

If you use Swagger on a Pokemon and then use Punishment.. does the base power of Punishment turn into 100 or does it only get one boost of 20 as Swagger is only one move? Basically does Punishment work based on each separate move or based on the number of stages a Pokemon's stat(s) is upped by? And do BPed stats up the power of Punishment?

Sorry if it's sort of like a few simple questions combined into one but it's all about the one move.. Thanks..

Do you think I should transfer my team and pokemon over to HG when I get it to wifi battle? Or should I stick with my trusty platinum? I kind of like the sprites and interface better in platinum, but idk. s;

There's an article, http://www.smogon.com/ingame/battle/wifi_metagame
however, that doesn't speak about VGC. If that's what you're interested in, you could also read http://www.smogon.com/dp/articles/double_battles
and the 'VGC rules announced' thread in Stark Mountain.

Run? Dunno if the sketch holds.

I think HG/SS have some new auto-levelling features that Pt doesn't - but IIRC that's only for local wirless. If you're playing VGC they insist on the newest games. That's about it.
Also note that if you are using Giratina-O (which you can only do on WiFi with cheats anyway), then you cannot trade the Griseous Orb.
