I started one, and with excellent vocabulary if I may say. But It was closed :/, lol. Apparently it had no competitive value, which was true. Smogon I suppose is just full of Fun Nazis.

or maybe you just made it in the wrong section dont you think? if you made here on starky montain then of course it was going to be closed.

OK, so i've looked around, and this forum is massive.

I'm basically trying to find a guide of shorthand used on this website. Apologies if there is one, and if there is, could you point me in the right direction.

Things like :

OU ?
UU ?
NFE ?
RMT (i worked this out as rate my team thread)
TR (trick room?)

Basically a list of team shorthands, and community shorthands would be ideal. Makes browsing the site, and understanding the threads much easier.

I've been lurking for a couple of weeks, and now want to get more involved. Breeding my own competitive team, and creating one from scratch. But as this is so in-depth anyway, i'm having trouble following some threads because of the shorthand used.

Hope this isn't a repeat post.

Thanks

Okay, now i want to ask a quetion.
How do i RNG abuse Latias when Steven Stone release them at Vermillion City ?
or can i Abuse the immediately before he release it ? maybe before i enter the pokemon fans club ? Is KOed them and return to the Elite Four is the only way ?

Guess Bulbapedia is wrong about Knock Off countering FEAR then. So that just leaves Nidoqueen left.
Unfortunately, Double Kick doesn't break through a Sash either.

If all you need is to beat the three threats you mention, and don't care about how well you do against other things, you could use a Banette with Insomnia (immune to Spore) and (ghost-type) Curse (which destroys Baton Pass teams by putting them on a pretty fast clock); the ghost typing makes it immune to Endeavor. I don't suggest that this is a good strategy, though, as Banette is kind-of rubbish otherwise. Instead, it may work better to modify bits of your team to check the threats individually; the hail-FEAR strategy fails against ghosts, and (if they use Leftovers) Tyranitar, Hippowdon, and any Ice-type wall (because they'll either change the weather to something they can handle, or resist hail, and a Lv. 1 Pokémon won't be able to damage them faster than the Lefties recovery); you should have a status absorber to deal with Spore users among other things (anything that can pull off Rest/Sleep Talk on a defensive team, things with Insomnia or Vital Spirit, or on an offensive team, something fast with a Lum Berry); and things that shut down Baton Pass strategies include phazers (before the opponent uses Ingrain; some good phazers are Skarmory, Hippowdon, and Swampert), the move Haze itself (hardly anything good learns it, though), and Perish Song users (only used competitively by Celebi and Mismagius, as far as I know); in Ubers, you could also use Heart Swap Manaphy (which is also a great status absorber in the rain).

Is Ghost good offensive and/or defensive typing?

It's not bad defensively at all (some common ghost-type walls are Rotom-A, Dusknoir, and Spiritomb); it's particularly good defensively in Doubles (where Explosion is one of the more common moves used), and is used quite a bit even in singles (often to resist Normal-type attacks, such as the occasional Explosion or, on a stall team, Rapid Spin); note that most Pokémon that use Fighting-type attacks also have a reliable way to deal with Ghosts, so it's less good as a counter to those. However, you have to be careful of things like opposing Pursuits. Offensively, it's not the best but it's still quite good; Ghost-type sweepers will generally use their STAB (there are quite a lot of Psychic and Ghost-type Pokémon running around both OU and Ubers), and it has good coverage with Fighting. Overall, I wouldn't say it's perfect in either, but if you have a Pokémon that's Ghost-type and you want to use it for some other reason, don't feel bad about using it.

Try looking through The Pokémon Dictionary and the Introduction to Competitive Pokémon; most of the acronyms you don't understand are likely to be explained in one of those, including all the ones you asked about there.

I might have calculated wrong, but the chances of hitting though paralysis and attraction should be 0.75 * 0.5 = 0.375, so the chances of not hitting should be 0.625 or 62.5%

Does Mewtwo benefit from beeing a Psychic-type? It recives alot of coll Psychic-type moves such as Reflect, Light Screen, Calm Mind and Trick, but beyond that?

What's Smogon's rules on FEAR (Focus Sash/Endeavor/Quick Attack) Rattata? Is it allowed? I know its flaws but it just looks hilariously fun to use.

of course you can use rattata, just watch out because he sucks. same for all FEAR pokes.

edit:mewtwo dont like a lot of the psychic type, weak to dark(pursuit), ghost and bug(u-turn) while only resisting uncommon types in ubers(psychic and fighting)

Allowed, but it isn't a particularly good strategy; Stealth Rock is everywhere and it trivially breaks sashes. You might want to look at this similar Clefable set, which is at least slightly competitively viable, if only on teams set up to make use of it (the strategy works on Clefairy and Cleffa too); even so, though, it's probably not going to win you many games. (Flaws in the general principle involve Ghost-type Pokémon, and Pokémon immune to whatever weather or status you're planning to use to kill them; Quick Attack doesn't work well for this purpose due to the amount of things that run Leftovers.)

What is the smallest combination of Pokemon that can counter Spore, FEAR teams (Cleffas + Hail) and Baton Pass teams.

Sleep Talk Rotom can absorb Spore and is immune to Endeavor, Breloom's Fighting attacks, and Smeargle's Normal attacks. Phazers/Hazers will work against Baton Pass Teams. Skarmory or Hariyama's Whirlwind will force them out, even if they go to Mr. Mime to try and stop Roar. Milotic might be the best Hazer to go against a Baton Pass team since you can easily send it in against Vaporeon and I don't think any common thing on a Baton Pass team can hit it SE besides Zapdos and Celebi. Fast Taunt leads can make it difficult for their lead to set up as well.

What's the best ball to use for a the hoppip evo line?

Heal Ball should look pretty good, especially with a shiny Jumpluff.

Can Psycho Shift fool a Blissey into statusing me, just to bounce them back into their own sweeper?

they LOVE to status latios so yeah, just watch out because they can just go and status you again while you can do nothing against her.

Quick dumb question, some websites say you can, some say no. Do the stationary Legendary Pokes in HG/SS respawn after the E4? Thanks!

EDIT: If you faint them.

EDIT: If you faint them.

Mewtwo, Snorlax, Sudowoodo, Zapdos, Moltres, Articuno, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Lati@s, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Suicune, Raikou, and Entei will all respawn if you faint them and defeat the elite four.

Is the respawn triggered by beating the E4 alone, or do you have to do something else?
If the former, when are spreads set for roamers?

Latias will be voted on. I don't know what pollsters are reporting. Salamence is not in round 3 of suspect testing; there was a lot of debate (and mud-slinging) but I think consensus was it didn't need a test. However if round 4 of testing starts then likely the debate will flare up again.

A Scizor counter is almost essential on OU teams, and most if not all will carry a Fire attack since that's Scizor's only weakness.

What would be the most useful Pokemon species for the Battle Hall? That is, one which has the largest variety in its moveset types, least weakness, legality, and so on...

I'm not sure Smogon has formally ruled on the Rage Glitch, but VGC has adopted a rule enumerating the allowed means for a Pokemon to learn a move, thus banning moves obtained by any such glitch.
