Getting rid of levels seems like it could be a very interesting, drastic change to the pokemon games that we know and love. What would they change it to, though? Almost all RPGs use the level system in some way or another, even if it deviates in its purpose from time to time. Would it be based on a "use" system, where your stats slowly increase depending on what type of moves you use and the damage you take? Of coarse, we would completely throw out the way we learn new moves, and even the base stats for Pokemon could possibly change to fit a non-leveling environment. I really don't think they're going to go through with something like this, looking back on everything they've built up, at least not in the main games.

Oh, and training for EVs is annoying enough, I would hate it if it became an even larger part in the gameplay as a whole.

hey guys, long time lurker here.

they should make a night weather condition.
i see some interesting new pokemon coming out of that.

Thoughts?

I don't think removing levels should be done, because it emphasizes on how the Pokemon grow. Leveling up is the Pokemon equivalent to the Pokemon growing up.

They should make it so you can train your Pokemon to be able to use personalized actions, like in the TV show. Ash/Dawn taught their Pokemon to jump towards the enemy and do that spin to evade attacks. Make it so you can teach your Pokemon to do that.....

Or make attacks have more than one use. In an older episode Starmie used Ice Beam to create a shield of ice that blocked out some of the enemies attack instead of just shooting a beam.....I am sure there are many more examples, but I haven't seen too many episodes.....

It would probably be like Sunny weather, but it would power up Moonlight and Weaken Synthesis...Maybe have an ability that raises evasiveness in the Night like Sand Veil or Snow Cloak (it makes sense, hiding in the shadows from attacks).....It could work, but there is a low chance of it happening.

Maybe increases Ghost attacks. I would say Dark attacks, but ghosts (Japanese name for ghost) come out at night, while aku (Japanese name for dark, means evil) happens all the time....but then again....."Blade Testing" takes place at night, and the night can seem like a "Dark Hole"....

I can also see it being like Sunny Day, boosting one type but helping the other (Boosts fire attacks, but all Sun abilities help Grass Pokemon as well as fixing SolarBeam), And boosting Ghost attacks while Dark Pokemon have good abilities for it...

Just don't get your hopes up.....It's not that bad an idea, but probably won't happen....

I wouldn't be surprised if they made Smog a weather condition, or brought back Fog, seeing all the urbanization.

Having more that one use for an attack seems like it could work, but would it take another moveslot to be able to use it in different ways? Or would you get an option which you get to choose after you select the move?

I could see a Night condition lowering the accuracy of moves by a small amount, taking onto what Rein said and also making Morning Sun heal less, and Solar Beam fail during it. I think the idea of increasing Ghost attacks is viable and makes sense. Also, I think it should extend sleep by an extra turn. I think that would be interesting.

I meant like each attack has two abilities. You choose which ability when you select the attack. i.e. When you select Heat Wave, you can choose to use it regularly (100Atk, 90 Accuracy, special hits both enemies) or choose an alternate version (100Atk, 90 Accuracy, Physical hits one enemy). Or have some attacks that have an offensive and defensive option like Rapid Spin (Clears Entry hazards, 40 Atk physical) or a status version (60% chance of evading enemy attack for that turn, looks like what Ash/Dawn Pokemon do in the anime). When you select the attack, you can choose the regular version or the secondary version.

I was thinking something like that for Ditto, too. When you use Transform, you can choose to transform into the enemy Pokemon, or to transform into a Pokemon Ditto remembers (i.e. remembering a Gliscor and Ditto transforming into Gliscor when the enemy is Tyranitar). This was also inspired by the anime (a picture of a new episode I saw on Serebii).

And when I was talking about accuracy at night, I was referring to an ability for Dark types, otherwise it might as well be fog. The idea of extending sleep is actually a good idea (Darkrai would break it to pieces, lol).

That seems like it could be viable. It might make some moves more useful, and give a lot more versatility in the game play. I like the idea.

I realize that, but considering there is less visibility at night, it seems logical that Pokemon as a whole would not be able to aim their attacks as well with the lack of light. Dark types could gain an ability to increase their evasion during the night effect even more so, "hiding in the shadows" like you've mentioned before. Dark and Ghost types would probably naturally not have an accuracy loss during the Night effect as well.

About the Porygon, I was thinking of a whole backstory with a special one-of-a-kind porygon. Okay:

Whether from just a side story or an event, the remains of a Silph Co. lab are found at the end of an entrance in one of the mountains (probably need surf/rock climb/strength). As you enter and go through the underground lab, many odd creatures (failed porygon betas that are uncatchable) fight you. After a few long puzzles and dead ends, you reach an untarnished room. A terminal is in the back of the room. When you interact, it shows a few commands.

[command;script] Fuse Heat Core with Subject 381 [endscript]
[command;script] Fuse Wave Core with Subject 381 [endscript]
[command;script] Fuse Growth Core with Subject 381 [endscript]
[command;alternateuser/insert] Insert new core [endscript]

Heat core leads to a Fire type Porygon, Wave to a Water type, and Growth to a Grass Type. Insert new core refers to various things you can collect. For instance, certain beta porygons can drop an item called a Pure Shard. If you fight enough, ten of these form a Pure core, and inserting gives the choices an ability (if not, abilities are Torrent, Blaze, and Overgrow.) This ability makes the same type as the chosen 4x super effective (Heat Core makes fire 4x SE to Heat Porygon) but keeps all resistances and loses weaknesses (except for above).

The chosen core affects colors and slight appearance changes. Movepools are changed as well.

Thoughts?

If Porygon were to get yet another evolution it would revolve around adaptation. It's great that you guys are trying to be creative with all this, but your forgetting about the limitations in which the game places on the Pokemon. For example, abilities are the only things capable of giving you extra weaknesses, an item giving you a weakness is too broken. Overgrow/Torrent/Blaze are for the starters only. It's tradition as it would seem, since they had opportunity to change that in both the third and fourth generation.

Quagsire's ideas sound neat, but they seem overcomplicated, considering the Porygon line is one Pokemon Co. have wanted to play down ever since the seizure-inducing episode. Porygon2 and Porygon-Z are the only Pokemon to have never appeared in the anime.

My original idea was the back story being team galactic / team rocket created Pory Z to travel into parallel dimensions to find Pokemon like Giratina. The original Pory Z was lost during mission one and the idea was trashed. After a while, Silph releases a new Pory w/ higher defenses to follow the trend and make it stay stable in the harsh conditions of space and other planets. It evolves from Pory 2 because Porygon Z wasn't created by Silph. It would probably have levitate, though, seeing the whole reason Pory 2 couldn't go into space was b/c it couldn't fly....

I had a lot more invested into the idea, but I would either have to type it all up again or go through the last 200-300 pages (it was somewhere in the 200s I think) to find it......

Someone even said a Poison type Porygon based on Nuclear Energy (then they said it had a special attack where u use nuclear energy to destroy a gym of your choice......)

I personally really wish they'd bring back secret bases from RSE. Where there was like hundreds of different places all over the map that you could decorate, and when you traded records with somebody their secret base appeared in your game. I just really liked that, where you could pick like some crazy tree out in the middle of nowhere. DP kind of improved on the idea by giving you the pokecenter table and other actually useful stuff but at the same time it tossed the bases into the pretty flavorless underground. So maybe in 5th gen theyll bring them back up to the surface. Hell, if it's more urban maybe you can rent an apartment. Oh and let you fly to your base. Not being able to fly to them was my only real issue with bases in RSE.

I'm really afraid they won't have the Rotom forms, Origin Giratina, or Skymin. They might bring back Rotom, but probably not Skymin, and Origin Giratina is a no because you can't even get him in HG/SS (only through Arceus event). Origin Giratina was supposed to be exclusive to Platinum....

Maybe w/ the secret bases you get your own house. Connecting w/ someone else will make thier house appear, and when both players are in range they can run around in each other's houses if they are there at the same time.....

Or maybe a whole Wi-Fi city!!

Would it really be that difficult to be able to hook up with 3 of your friends throughout the entire region? I mean, the underground is pretty expansive, and it is a lot more than a 4 player maximum. Who am I kidding... this is Gamefreak, they take baby steps in evolving their games. Oh well, being able to see the entire pokemon will be cool.

With, the night condition, how could you trigger it, it doesnt make sense

Heck, this is pokemon, nothing makes sense! Thats how I like it

I reckon that trainers should ev there pokemon as you get through the game, eg.

The first trainer has no evs.......the champion has Max Atk/Max Speed etc.
That would make the game much harder

Chances are you can trade them from Gen 4 or they'll make them available in the remakes (because Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Latias & Latios were all availabe in HGSS). I really hope they limit the number of legendaries to one (maybe two) because they went over the top in Gen 4, in my opinion. But chances are they'll make loads so that they can get more money through more films and events etc.

I like the Porygon idea, it doesn't sound enough to make it really uber but kinda creating your own Pokémon would be cool, it also works with the different form idea. Porygon really does need it, I get why they buried it in the anime but why did they make the evolved forms if you're not going to use them? Porygon2 practically doesn't exist, it's never mentioned, it's never seen, you simply find the item to evolve it and that's it. Porygon lost it's cool factor when it became NFE and the evolved forms feel like afterthoughts.

Porygon 3 should be uber and have the special move "Seizure" that explodes the ds on contact.

There is no question in my mind that GF will optimize the legends (and all pokemon for that matter) with the intent to maximize return to their best ability.

. . . well duh, this is business after all.

However "How many legendaries is best for business" is not as simple as saying that making a lot of them will give them more event opportunities. If you make too many legends, than being legendary loses its value. Therefore, there is an upper limit as to how many GF can make. GF will do their best to make a number of legends that will optimize their return-- that's just good business.

However,

"How many legends optimize return"

and

"How many legends GF thinks will optimize return"

are two different matters. That takes market research on their part, and of course I'm certain that you're not the only one who thought gen 4 really cheapened the legendary status.

Why on earth would they do that? Giratina-O is obtainable in HGSS, and they've never cut off any alternate formes before...

Yeah, there will be new ways to obtain Formes.

About the number of legendaries - while on the one hand I do think there are too many (even RSE had too many IMHO), on the other hand I'm not sure which ones I'd pick to drop. Jirachi can probably go die in a fire - annoying in the movie and in battles. Cresselia's way too similar to the Lake Trio. (The Lake Trio make sense in the plot, so they stay, though I think they should have been three different types - perhaps Uxie Normal, Mesprit Psychic, and Azelf Fighting). Those are the only two I might want to get rid of. I'm no fan of the Regis but without them RSE would have been legendary-short, and while Heatran's ugly and random it has a good competitive impact.

W/ the underground, though, it is just sprites of rocks and furniture. The only NPCs don't move or anything......GF might be trying to get something set up and see how much the games can do while connecting. As you said, baby steps.

There is also the problem of someone following you around or not leaving you alone if the entire game was wi-fi. Then they might as well make an MMORPG. Just one city were you can connect to the internet and evryone will be wandering around in there. So far, industrialization is in the new gaems...so...

There needn't be a cover trio. Black and White are such obvious opposites that there could be a duo relating to them. The third version would then have a cover legend that was distinct. Kind of like how GS was Ho-oh and Lugia, then C was Suicune.
