Well Tyranitar isn't a sweeper, it's a trapper. An excellent one with that, having the high special defense needed to take down most dark-weak targets. Really Stone Edge/EQ are kind of just "extra" to TTar's central game of "Take Down Gengar/Celebi/Rotom/etc." Like, throwing out a CB Stone Edge when I have no idea what the opponent is going to do. As for competition, seeing as Tyranitar's really the ONLY other good rock type, there's not much else to compete with. lol

CB Aero would be an impressive Wall Breaker I can imagine-- Head Smash would probably leave anything in pain, even resists. Thing is, taking on a CB/Scarf role is kind of difficult when you have SR weak . . . though Aero probably would have enough speed and power to actually make the set work fairly well. I actually really would like to see it get at least one of those attacks. I'd actually prefer Brave Bird, since I'd really like to see Rock get some more accurate moves.

I'm shaking in my chair. Soooo close to the new starters!
Who thinks the grass starter will be a Kiwi or any form of bird?

I'm hoping Rock Climb becomes an a actual Rock attac. If you look, OK power and imperfect accuracy hints that they were planning on it being Rock, but changed their minds.

I completely agree, CB Aero would be hindered by virtue of being locked into a move while being weak to Stealth Rock. You can predict a grounded steel but then they may end up switching in Skarmory on your Earthquake and then having to switch. For this reason alone I think Life Orb would be an excellent option, with Brave Bird / Head Smash / Earthquake / Pursuit or Fire Blast. This is all just theorymon, but I do think Gamefreak will be dishing out some more nice attacks to a wider variety of pokemon.

EDIT: About Rock Climb, I agree, but I feel like it would still be outclassed by Rock Slide/Stone Edge. You are losing 10 power (and high critical hit ratio) of Stone Edge for 5 more accuracy and chance of confusion. Of course, you are giving up 10 accuracy and 30% flinch rate for 15 more power.

I'm sorry but what? How does having ok power and imperfect accuracy = rock? Hello ice beam, surf, crunch, leaf blade etc.

Also agreeing that aero would be a beast if he got those moves, white herb with curse, and then just attack away.

Has the next magazine from CoroCoro not been released yet?

Rock Climb.....They realize rock has really good coverage, and are afraid to release a really good Rock attack b/c Great Rock Attack + Great Ground attack (EQ) = destruction. T-Tar is a pain w/ Rock Slide, let alone SE w/ perfect accuracy.

OHKO moves aren't broken, it is just really annoying to go down to "Horn Drill".
And there is a the fear than an otherwise bullet proof switch-in could go down to an unexpected "Sheer Cold".

Still, OHKO moves are not that widely distributed and relatively few Pokemon can afford to sit around and spam them.
One is resisted by floaters and the other by Ghosts while all can't hit Sturdy Pokemon.

Too bad they are just silhouettes. Hopefully when CoroCoro gets leaked to the web this week it will reveal one, if not all, of the Pokemon. I'm not quite sure what to think of them right now. The one in the middle looks like a combination of Turtwig and Spoink.

I have horrible Crit hax and am always destroyed by poor luck and jump whenever the enemy uses OHKO attacks....But they are very far from broken.

Finally!

....The starters do look pretty odd.....Grass is on the bottom left (see the leafy tail), Water the right (Spheal 2.0), and I guess that's fire.....Fire looks like Turtwig. lol

On first sight it looks like the order is
"Fire (Flame tail) => Grass (Turtwig 2.0) => Water (Some weird upright beaver"

After staring at the pictures some more this is my guess:

First figure on the left:
Grass - The thing on its tail is a leaf, like those huge banana leaves. The thing on its head...a beak, or just a thin snout? Maybe an anteater?

Middle figure:
Fire - Er...fire bunny?

Right:
Water - An eskimo-looking thing.

To me the left is water (looks mermaid with the fin/tail) top is grass, leaf ears/weird tail and the right is fire.

It's a friggin bunny lol. I'm not sure how it's a Turtwig ripoff besides the fact that they're both quadrupeds.

I thought it was maybe Fire > Grass > Water, but I guess we'll just have to wait until we get pics.

The left one is likely going to be the centre of attention as everyone tries to figure out exactly what type it is.

Except a maelstrom of fanart.

The far left has little claws, like Charmander hands but smaller.....It's in the same position as Furret, looking upward w/ it's hands in front of it, but standing straight. Actually, it looks more like it's standing the same way Breloom is.
I highly believe this to be the Grass starter, b/c the Leaves on it's tail.

Far right looks like a beaver with a Spheal for a head. lol

Think like the head of the leaf tailed is turned towards us, with the spike being the back of its head, almost reminiscent of a gardevoir turning.
