The Fire thing looks cool (and thankfully NOT Fire/Fighting), but the Water one is completely retarded... That last piece of fanart we got was really better, with that Water platypus.


But holy fucking shit, look at that motherfucking Grass starter. I'll take twenty.
 
It's amazing how everyone agrees on the looks ranking. It's like... if we all agree on it, how did the damn art design team NOT see it?

Oh and yes, consider me twice as disappointed because I wanted a Platypus something bad.
 
I'll be honest, while Fire is actually one of my favourites, that Fire starter seems ridiculous to me. I mean, coming, OK, a flaming monkey, next, a flaming pig?

Are these scans confirmed not being fake? I kinda like the grass starter, it could be either grass\dragon or mono-grass like Sceptile. If those pics are real I predict the fire starter having secondary ground typing while the water one looks like it could be part ice like someone else said.
 
The scans look too sophisticated to be fake, and look like the scans of Zorowhatever his name is. Lucalibur is making me lol with his rage. And I hope those translations are right because that way the water guy will get some love which you guys arent giving him.
 
Remember people, the first forms of the starters are usually bad anyway. It's the FINAL forms that are awesome.

EXAMPLE: Chimchar vs Infernape.
Charmander vs Charizard.
Mudkip (Don't cite memes here) vs Swampert.
Piplup vs Empoleon.

I rest my case.

my only hopes are that polarpus isn't part ice, and that snobby-grass-cool guy becomes part dragon

am i the only one now thinking fire guy is gonna become a warthog, instead of a normal pig?
 
If the otter is part ice and the grass is part dragon (which is really unlikely), then the water one will easily own the grass one.

My prediction is that they're Grass, Fire, Water/Ice.
 
Water starter - Looks retarded, and is probably a Water/Ice type. Severely disappointed, hoping they give it a good evolution.

Grass starter - Looks awesome, I could definitely see it becoming one of my favorites. I'm guessing it's either pure Grass, Grass/Dragon (hopefully) or Grass/Electric. If it's Grass/Fighting or Grass/Flying I'll be pretty sad, though I guess if it has high speed then Grass/Fighting would be good.

Fire starter - First form looks kind of lame, I predict it becoming a badass flaming boar for it's final evolution though. My guess is it'll be a slow, bulky mon with stats kind of like Torterra. Type wise, my guess is either Fire/Dark, Fire/Ground, or Fire/Electric. If it's another pure Fire type I'll rage.

Bulbasaur>Venusaur
Chikorita>Meganium
Totodile>Feraligatr
Mudkip>Swampert
Treecko>Sceptile
Torchic>Blaziken
Turtwig>Torterra

So not really, the first forms are actually usually the simple, sleek ones while the final forms are derp.

In this case though I guess a Boar on fire would be awesome, the grass starter will probably look worse [like the Treecko line] and nothing can save the water abomination.

Tsutaaja a Grass/Fighting pokemon
Pokabu a Fire/Dark pokemon
Mijumaru a Water/Psychic pokemon
None of the typeings are original.
 
Forget you all. I am picking the cute Water starter which will likely become something awesome. This is fine, since I wanted to walk the path less travelled anyway.
 
A lot of people probably thought Piplup would evolve into a water/ice type just because it was a penguin.

Just because the otter looks like it could be ice doesn't make it fact. Let's hope, anyway...
 
The Grass one is pretty cool, I LOVE the Fire type, but the Water type one just looks weird. I'm surprised more people don't like the Fire type, is it just because it's a pig?

I think an obvious trend over the generations is that Gamefreak has been making the starters more competitively viable. A lot of you don't give them nearly enough credit for how much they appreciate their older audience and work to make the game interesting for them (at least the battling portion of the game). My point is Gamefreak knows what makes a Pokemon good and what makes one bad, and as of RSE it's evident they want the starter Pokemon to be competitively viable. I would bet good money that the Water's secondary typing (if it even has one) isn't Ice. Dragon paired with Grass is a definite possibility I think for the following reason: every generation (except maybe GSC) they've really tried to make the Grass starter competitively viable but they've always fallen short (Sceptile may have been OU is RSE but honestly we didn't have usage stats back then so this is very hard to quantify; the fact is it's lackluster now in DPPt). Due to the Grass type's inherent disadvantages, pairing it with Dragon may be the only way to make it competitively viable (especially as you can't give it an Ability other than Overgrow). As for my adorable Fire piggy, I too hope he gets Ground as a secondary type. And how's this for a trend: Swampert (Water/Ground), Torterra (Grass/Ground), Firepiggy (Fire/Ground).
 
I like the fire pig, but hope it isn't too slow, as "bulky" really doesn't work for fire types. At least it isn't Fire/Fighting!

Love the fire and grass type starter, but yeah the water one looks retarded.

EDIT: Perhaps the fire starter will be faster with a ground secondary typing? All we have seen so far is Camerupt, who is used as a defensive pokemon and Rock Polisher. I also love the main characters, they aren't children!
 
The water one is growing on me already, and besides it's all just a matter of taste. Is it actually an otter or is this just speculation on account of the belly shell?

Also, are there more pages to be scanned or is this basically it again for another month?

It's just speculation, mainly the sea shell and toes, but other than that it doesn't look entirely like an otter. I don't know, I love otters but they made his head white and his coloration is pretty much a clone of Piplup.
 
I'm not hoping the fire starter evolves into Fire/Ground, mainly because it would just make it worse against the other two. Grass would hit it neutral, and water would hit it x4. That seems totally unfair to me. If anything, I'd like it to be Fire/Dark. At least that doesn't make it suck against the other starters, and I like more Dark mons:>
