Okay, I'm not someone who'll hate Pokemon simply because they aren't the originals or whatever, but I really just don't like the fire and water starters. The water starter looks like a sad clown thing and the fire starter is a coloured rabbit-pig.

But I really like the grass starter!(apart from the freakishly large eyes and strangely shaped legs)

I also love both the characters, could potentially be one of my favourites :)

Pokebeach has updated with some of the newer scans, featuring some interesting things.

-Clearer views of the city.
-Zoroark and Zorua's Illusion ability in action.
-Pokabu is seen using a fire attack...probably flamethrower.
-Mijumaru has water pulse (lame).
-Tsutaaja seems to be using Leaf Storm...

I looks like the illusion ability doesn't automatically make it look like the opponent pokemon, just does so before the first turn. Kinda takes the surprise factor out of everything. Hopefully there will be something in the game mechanics that will make up for this, as the ability would then prove useless otherwise.

I'm beginning to wonder if this Isshu region is outside of Japan.
After all, it is said to be located very far away according to Pokebeach.
I suppose that wouldn't really be true of a region nestled between Johto and Hoenn but who knows.

As a large, skycraping city surrounded by water, New York is not bad inspiration for Hiun City.
OTOH, the movie apparently takes place in Holland and Amsterdam is pretty watery as well if not as towering.

If anything, the distance would be an excuse to have a roster of almost entirely new Pokemon.
Especially as compatibility with Gen IV seems likely, many current Pokemon need not be obtainable in the wild.

It's hard to gauge how useful Zoroark's ability will be when we don't even know if the mechanic will be identical to Transform.
In any case, if you're going to use such a strategy, having it as an ability would be superior to using a move since you don't allow your opponent to choose the target.
So maybe you could switch into a Heatran Fire Blast while transforming into it and getting a Flash Fire boost.
But in this case, it would make absolutely no sense for Zoroark to learn any moves since it would never get to use its own.
Maybe the move Trickery plays a role in making Zoroark work since it takes the opposing Pokemon's attributes into account.

And, since it learns Trickery and Claw Sharpen, this has been immediately torpedoed.

EDIT: I get the feeling Trickery is going to work like Punishment, except with base stats rather than raised stats.

Yeah, it's weird.
He seems to Transform back and forth.
Maybe the amount of damage taken or the number of turns passed dictates this?
It would be reasonable, from a flavour standpoint, if Trickery is only usuable when he is in the transformed state.
That would also have a balancing effect if Trickery does something crazy like inflict Super Effective damage that targets the lower defense.

BTW, this scan is pretty blurry but it seems to be linking various points in the city artwork to their ingame representations.
So we see the large building, the huge bridge and the pier with the boats in both the artwork and screenshots.

When I first saw the pics, it was showing Kanto, Johto, and Sinnoh, and an arrow leading to Hiun City and for a minute I thought that, that was the new region. Ha, that was fail. But the city, is pretty big. I can see the name of it. Seeing how Zoroark, might roam the place, in the shadows, as how people fear Absol.

Starters are great. What can I really say.

But the girl, I don't seem to like... the rest is totally insane at the moment for me.

Does anyone else think that Pokabu's markings sort of resemble a lucha libre costume? It's making me wonder if we'll end up with yet another Fire/Fighting final evolution. If you're a pessimist, you can throw in the concerns over Tsutaja ending up Grass/Poison (it is a snake after all) and Mijumaru ending up Water/Ice. We're off to a bland start!

Seriously though, I'm kinda hoping for Grass/Dragon, Water/Fighting (at the possible expense of Poliwrath... though Water Pulse probably kills that theory), and Fire... I know everyone wants Steel or Ground, but how about Fire/Ghost? "I seek vengeance from the beyond for all my brethren who became your bacon-weave sandwiches and gravy-smothered pork chops!"

I'd much rather see the typing on Ninetales, but a Ghost secondary could make a unique and very tasty pork 'mon.

RainChance, I was thinking for Pokabu, it would be Fire/Dark. Thinking the final evolution would look somewhat of a Bulky Warthog. And even though snake, I think most of us would prefer the first Grass/Dragon to be the starter, though X4 Weakness Ice, is what I usually hate the most. For the otter, not much to say. But most likely see the Ice in it.

Purely from the looks of the starters, I can reasonably see Grass/Psychic (looks cerebral, cocky, has limp limbs so maybe not a physical attacker much), Fire/Dark (based purely on coloration), and Water/Fighting (not much to go off here, but it would complete the typing "trifecta," otherwise Water/Ice looks promising) being final evo typings for the three. This would make sense, as Psychic/Dark/Fighting operates much the same as Grass/Fire/Water in terms of type interactions. This would also keep the "starter advantage" of the rival consistent throughout the game, as Grass/Psychic will have an equal advantage over Water/Fighting as Grass would have over Water and you won't have any more switcheroos like with Infernape vs. Empoleon in DPPt.

I've never liked the Water Pulse animation and now I see that they chose to keep it...

And honestly, I'm very curious as to how this Water starter will prove to distinguish itself from the hoards of other Water types. It will probably have the same Water STAB move that all Water Pokemon use (Surf or Waterfall), so unless it gets some useful secondary type, it will probably drown amongst the hundreds of other generic Waters. If it becomes Water/Psychic, it will probably be outclassed by Starmie. Water/Fighting, and it competes with Poliwrath (unless, of course, Watter Otter gets Close Combat.)

Oh, and I wonder who will be Generation 5's Ratatta and Pidgey?

What if Zoroarks Transform ability lets it "store" remebered transformations.

For example, you would transform into*insert pokemon here* and your ability allows you to store the pokemon, its item, its moveset and re transform into it, into a single moveslot. And its locked into said transformation till it switches out. This would be a pseudo remedy to 4 moveslot syndrome.

Or something along those lines. i had a better idea, but lost most of it through out the day

On another note.

I can haz scans of legendaries?

By the way, this was on another thread that is closed, but a suggestion was Random Wifi Battle.

This looks great a first glance, but it really is crap

After all you might be paired with a noob with 6 HO-oh, trust me, GameFreak wont go on smogon, to have a look a tiers, and tiers can change

i'd still go for it. going User vs User would be great either way imo. Just to have that option.

Edit: And btw.. on one of the pics of the starters using attacks.. the fire pig at it's base form... is at a level 50 with 136-138 full HP. thats a pretty obvious giveaway of a wallish Pokemon, or am i wrong? Either way.. now you know a little bit of the stat.

I hope this grass starter is good and useful (in-game, at least) because it is the best design out of the three.
The fire starter is a bit boring, nothing special, while the water starter is just plain weird. I'm not sure if i like him or not.

Oh, god, the Water starter is SO UGLY!!

However, a couple of things--the battle scene looks freakin' sick. If the other attack animations are that good, this is going to be a major step up in the graphics of gameplay.

Really wish I could make out the region map a bit better. Looks awfully big... [Edit: and Pokebeach is down for me] [Edit 2: Oh, wait. That's totally Kanto/Johto. Was trying to match the map to some part of Japan, and the features suggested... Kanto. Then I looked at the page layout again, and... yeah...]

Also, that gleaming 3D city... Pokemon League or Battle Frontier?

Over-design? Did you look at that pig? Nothing special about it, really, with the only notable features other than its general shape being the ears and tail. The grass starter has only the scarf thing and tail tip as a decoration, and the protagonists are just wearing simple clothes that I could imagine any normal person their age wearing (Not a fan of the booty shorts, but I could really care less).
Stuff like this pisses me off. What's special about Charmander Bulbasaur or Squirtle apart from the fact that you grew up with them? It's people hating on the new generations of Pokémon that make me look back and question my own gen. You could just as easily say Charmander is some designless fire lizard thing, Bulbasaur is a whatthefuck I don't even know with a plant thing on it's back and Squirtle is a gay wee turtle. Of course we don't say that because a) it's wrong and b) there's no bandwagon/meme brigade to stick up for us and help us out.

95% of us hate the water type, but there's still 5% who really like it and that just solidifies my notion that anyone who says these new pokes suck would probably say they sucked no matter what they looked like.

full_seaOtter_2.jfif

n_n Seeing this gives me faith that the water type mightn't suck. (Wait I just saw it's sprite, cancel that x[ Maybe it's evolved form won't suck.

Pokabu_by_Scicky.png

Those aren't even ears it looks like a badass bandana meaning the evolution will be all kinds of awesome 8) However the questionable "underwear" it's wearing might be a sign that we're getting another bipedal Fire/Fighting type x[

The pig is fugly, but I like the idea of Boarbeque as a name for it's evolution. Grass/Fighting or Grass/Dragon would make the grass type playable.

I don't mind the water type, but it will be overwhelmed by the 90 other water types, and there'll only be one other fire type.

Did they re-use the Entei sprite from D/P?

...I hope these are just really early beta shots, because everything in the battle scenes looks really unpolished, including attack animations (reusing from Gen IV?) sprites, and even the battle platforms. The platforms are all blocky and chunky, which is odd because Gen IV nailed that perfectly.

Kinda hard to say it's going to be bulky, but if we went on what little information we had I would wager it's base HP are sitting between 31 and 63.

Edit: With IVs and EVs taken into account, it could have a base HP of 31 to 78.
