What the hail? (A Warstory)

Well, here we are. I had written a warstory in the past but it wasn’t well received at all because the battle was mediocre. Here is my second try with a fun team, but the level of mediocrity for the battle has yet to be accurately assessed by myself.

Silly Bulbapedia and their sprite inconsistencies. You get one animated Feraligatr sprite for my team. My opponent (whose name has been censored for their privacy) and his/her team will be slowly revealed through the battle and at the end.

Opponent sent out Abomasnow!
scepticallistic sent out Clefable!
The foe's Abomasnow's Snow Warning whipped up a hailstorm!

Spr_4h_036.png
vs.
460.png

Well I send out my favorite Clefable and my opponent leads with an Abomasnow. It's almost guaranteed that my opponent is running some hail-themed team, which means my Magic Guard Clefable will be invaluable in dismantling that annoyance. The Abomasnow could be a Subseed version or a Scarf Abomasnow, and I make a minor error in getting too overzealous with passing on my status.

Start of turn 1
The foe's Abomasnow used Substitute!
The foe's Abomasnow made a substitute!

Clefable used Trick!
The foe's Abomasnow's substitute blocked Trick!

Hail continues to fall!
Clefable is buffeted by the hail!
The foe's Abomasnow restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Clefable's Flame Orb activated!
Clefable was burned!
Clefable is hurt by its burn!

I could have seen that one coming, but I didn't. Now he knows what my Clefable is up to and he is going to Leech Seed, which means locking him in on an unoffensive move could be beneficial. I cheer him on.

Start of turn 2
The foe's Abomasnow used Leech Seed!
Clefable was seeded!

Clefable used Encore!
The foe's Abomasnow received an encore!

Hail continues to fall!
Clefable is buffeted by the hail!
The foe's Abomasnow restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Clefable's health is sapped by leech seed.
Clefable is hurt by its burn!

Thanks to Magic Guard, Hail, Leech Seed, and Burn have absolutely no effect on Clefable (but Abomasnow will be healing still with Leech Seed). Since the opponent is stuck on Leech Seed, I make a switch to my trapper, Dugtrio, in an attempt to take out the abomination while he sucks rather feebly at Dugtrio's puny HP stat. I had thought he would be content staying in with a Substitute protection and have tons of HP gain, but he ran.

Start of turn 3
Opponent called Abomasnow back!
Opponent sent out Lucario!

scepticallistic called Clefable back!
scepticallistic sent out Dugtrio!

Hail continues to fall!
The foe's Lucario is buffeted by the hail!
Dugtrio is buffeted by the hail!

Spr_4h_051.png
vs.
448.png

Well that is interesting. I hate to admit that I made an egregious error, but thankfully my opponent made a slightly bigger one. His Lucario can't escape, and his best chance of winning is with Extremespeed. I didn't bother running calculations, even though I knew Dugtrio's defense is ridiculously pitiful.

Start of turn 4
Dugtrio used Earthquake!
It's super effective!
The foe's Lucario lost 93% of its health!
The foe's Lucario fainted!

Hail continues to fall!
Dugtrio is buffeted by the hail!
Opponent sent out Rotom-F!

Spr_4h_051.png
vs.
Spr_4p_479R.png

Weeeeeell I got lucky there. I ran some damage calcs after the battle and his Lucario had an awesome chance of KOing Dugtrio with Extremespeed, assuming he was running the standard Swords Dance Lucario. I'm glad that I took out what appeared to be his late game sweeper, however. I get a bit reckless with my triple mole. Rotom-F rears its ugly freezer face and I need to skedaddle because Dugtrio's Sucker Punch and Pursuit aren't the best moves to use against this unpredictable appliance. I go to Clefable, who is usually my favorite pivot because of its versatility, ability to sponge special hits, and status immunity (all invaluable against Rotom).

Start of turn 5
scepticallistic called Dugtrio back!
scepticallistic sent out Clefable!

The foe's Rotom-F used Trick!
The foe's Rotom-F switched items with Clefable!
The foe's Rotom-F obtained one Flame Orb!
Clefable obtained one Choice Scarf!

Hail continues to fall!
The foe's Rotom-F is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is buffeted by the hail!
The foe's Rotom-F's Flame Orb activated!
The foe's Rotom-F was burned!
The foe's Rotom-F is hurt by its burn!
Clefable is hurt by its burn!

Spr_4h_036.png
vs.
Spr_4p_479R.png

Well his sneaky Rotom tricked a Scarf onto Clefable and burned himself. Now, I'd like my Flame Orb back so I can terrorize the rest of his team (not to mention I need to get rid of Scarf). Trick is the obvious move.

Start of turn 6
Opponent called Rotom-F back!
Opponent sent out Mamoswine!

Clefable used Trick!
Clefable switched items with the foe's Mamoswine!
Clefable obtained one Life Orb!
The foe's Mamoswine obtained one Choice Scarf!

Hail continues to fall!
Clefable is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is hurt by its burn!

Spr_4h_036.png
vs.
473.png

Hmm. Too bad Clefable doesn't have any attacking moves to take advantage of the Life Orb boost. Now, Mamoswine can use a Choice Scarf so he exactly isn't crippled. Additionally, I make a stupid move to add to the non-favorable conditions.

Start of turn 7
The foe's Mamoswine used Ice Shard!
Clefable lost 82 HP! (20% of its health)

Clefable used Encore!
The foe's Mamoswine received an encore!

Hail continues to fall!
Clefable is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is hurt by its burn!

Well that was retarded. I should have used Wish, since the Scarf I just slapped onto the mammoth-pig means I had a guaranteed pseudo-encored. That completely escaped my mind. I'm glad he used Ice Shard, however, since Clefable shrugged that off rather easily. I finally choose Wish since I'm not threatened at all by him anymore.

Start of turn 8
Opponent called Mamoswine back!
Opponent sent out Heatran!

Clefable used Wish!

Hail continues to fall!
The foe's Heatran is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is hurt by its burn!

Spr_4h_036.png
vs.
485.png

Hello my toilet. Since Clefable is a special sponge, I stay in to take the attack and receive some Wish healing. I don't want to hand him a Life Orb and let it power through my team and I could potentially receive another Scarf. Despite this thought process, I don't opt for a Protect and instead go for Encore (in case he's not Scarfed and I want to make him more predictable ?_?).

Start of turn 9
The foe's Heatran used Earth Power!
Clefable lost 102 HP! (25% of its health)
Clefable's Sp. Def. fell!

Clefable used Encore!
The foe's Heatran received an encore!

Clefable's wish came true!
Hail continues to fall!
The foe's Heatran is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is hurt by its burn!

Hmmm. He chooses Earth Power, probably to try to get the Special Defense drop. And he did. But now, regardless of other factors, I know he is stuck on Earth Power and I can safely go to my Levitator since Clefable can't really do much else besides irk the opposition.

Start of turn 10
scepticallistic called Clefable back!
scepticallistic sent out Mismagius!

The foe's Heatran used Earth Power!
It had no effect!

Hail continues to fall!
The foe's Heatran is buffeted by the hail!
Mismagius is buffeted by the hail!
Mismagius restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Spr_4p_429.png
vs.
485.png

Moo nothing much to say. He will obviously switch so I go for the Substitute to get some protection.

Start of turn 11
Opponent called Heatran back!
Opponent sent out Walrein!

Mismagius used Substitute!
Mismagius made a substitute!

Hail continues to fall!
The foe's Walrein's Ice Body heals it!
Mismagius is buffeted by the hail!
Mismagius restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Spr_4p_429.png
vs.
365.png

Well of course this blubberbottom will show up. What hail team is complete without it? I have a Substitute, so I go for a Nasty Plot to get my offenses up. He can either attack my Substitute or get up his own, which really isn't so bad because I can outspeed and destroy it as he destroys mine later.

Start of turn 12
Mismagius used Nasty Plot!
Mismagius's Sp. Att. sharply rose!

The foe's Walrein used Surf!
A critical hit!
Mismagius's substitute faded!

Hail continues to fall!
The foe's Walrein's Ice Body heals it!
Mismagius is buffeted by the hail!
Mismagius restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

He doesn't like my Rhydon-doll visage and blows it away as I hatch a sinister plan. I could go for another Substitute here but I dislike hacking away at my health on my own accord. I also don't think his Walrein can KO Mismagius with one attack. I choose Hidden Power Fighting to hopefully KO or severely dent his Walrein, making his stalling harder.

Start of turn 13
Mismagius used Hidden Power!
It's super effective!
The foe's Walrein lost 70% of its health!

The foe's Walrein used Toxic!
Mismagius was badly poisoned!

Hail continues to fall!
The foe's Walrein's Ice Body heals it!
Mismagius is buffeted by the hail!
The foe's Walrein restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Mismagius restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Mismagius is hurt by poison!

Well that was new. It turns out Substitute would have been the right choice. No matter, his Walrein is somewhat close to dead. He's going to obviously Protect to get some health back and to whittle away at my mage with residual damage. I don't want to switch since Walrein is a huge threat and I'd like it dead, even if it means sacrificing my Mismagius.

Start of turn 14
The foe's Walrein used Protect!
The foe's Walrein protected itself!

Mismagius used Hidden Power!
The foe's Walrein protected itself!

He's hard pressed to do anything else besides try to Protect again because I can outspeed and KO, which is what I hope to do.

Start of turn 15
The foe's Walrein used Protect!
But it failed!

Mismagius used Hidden Power!
It's super effective!
The foe's Walrein lost 53% of its health!
The foe's Walrein fainted!

Hail continues to fall!
Mismagius is buffeted by the hail!
Mismagius restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Mismagius is hurt by poison!
Opponent sent out Abomasnow!

Luckily his second Protect fails and I manage to KO one of the biggest threats with Hail. I opt to stay in again because I'm pretty willing to sacrifice my Mismagius now, after being crippled with Toxic and pelted with hail.

Spr_4p_429.png
vs.
460.png

Start of turn 16
Mismagius used Hidden Power!
It's super effective!
The foe's Abomasnow lost 88% of its health!

The foe's Abomasnow used Leech Seed!
Mismagius was seeded!

Hail continues to fall!
Mismagius is buffeted by the hail!
The foe's Abomasnow restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Mismagius restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
Mismagius's health is sapped by leech seed.
Mismagius is hurt by poison!

I just straight out attack since poison and Hail have Mismagius' lifeline ticking down. Interestingly, he uses Leech Seed instead of an offensive move. Now, usually I like to mix up my moves when I have 2 that can attack the opponent about equally in case my opponent predicts and switches, but I get overzealous here with my innate power.

Start of turn 17
Opponent called Abomasnow back!
Opponent sent out Rotom-F!

Mismagius used Hidden Power!
It had no effect!

Hail continues to fall!
The foe's Rotom-F is buffeted by the hail!

scepticallistic sent out Clefable!

Spr_4h_036.png
vs.
Spr_4p_479R.png

Nailing Rotom with a Shadow Ball would have been nice, but Mismagius bites the dust from residual damage. Again, I go to my favorite pivot. I still want my Flame Orb back, so I go for a Trick.

Start of turn 18
The foe's Rotom-F used Trick!
The foe's Rotom-F switched items with Clefable!
The foe's Rotom-F obtained one Life Orb!
Clefable obtained one Flame Orb!

Hail continues to fall!
The foe's Rotom-F is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is buffeted by the hail!
The foe's Rotom-F is hurt by its burn!
Clefable is hurt by its burn!

Congratulations, we've managed to accomplish absolutely nothing except a chunk of residual damage on Rotom. I think he's really trying to get a Life Orb to boost his offenses and to shed the Flame Orb, so I sort of mix things up? ._.

Start of turn 19
The foe's Rotom-F used Trick!
The foe's Rotom-F switched items with Clefable!
The foe's Rotom-F obtained one Life Orb!
Clefable obtained one Flame Orb!

Clefable used Encore!

Hail continues to fall!
The foe's Rotom-F is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is buffeted by the hail!
The foe's Rotom-F is hurt by its burn!
Clefable is hurt by its burn!

Thanks for the Flame Orb, take your Life Orb. I realized that my Clefable is not really affected by his Rotom at all and decide to make him use useless moves to build some more residual damage. His hail is his own undoing. I go for the ever-useful wish.

Start of turn 20
Opponent called Rotom-F back!
Opponent sent out Heatran!

Clefable used Wish!

Hail continues to fall!
The foe's Heatran is buffeted by the hail!

Opponent: i hate this clfable

Spr_4h_036.png
vs.

<3 I use Protect to scout his move (and usually, I'd say to get Wish healing, but Clefable is at full health. >_>).

Start of turn 21
Clefable used Protect!
Clefable protected itself!

The foe's Heatran used Flamethrower!
Clefable protected itself!

Clefable's wish came true!
Hail continues to fall!
The foe's Heatran is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is hurt by its burn!

Interesting. Seeing Flamethrower, I'm starting to think that Heatran is not Scarfed, since that move is a bit weak on a Scarftran. He has little reason to switch since he doesn't know what Heatran can do to Clefable, so I use Encore to lock him in and make his actions so much more predictable.

Start of turn 22
The foe's Heatran used Flamethrower!
Clefable lost 142 HP! (36% of its health)

Clefable used Encore!
The foe's Heatran received an encore!

Hail continues to fall!
The foe's Heatran is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is hurt by its burn!

I'm unthreatened and he is locked. I think a Wish is in order.

Start of turn 23
Opponent called Heatran back!

Clefable used Wish!

Hail continues to fall!
Clefable is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is hurt by its burn!

Spr_4h_036.png
vs.
473.png

His newly Scarfed-swine comes in. Mamoswine are almost always physical so I decide to hand him my Flame Orb. I use Trick - even though I get a Choice Scarf, I can throw it away later. I know I can take an Ice Shard comfortably and probably an Earthquake without dying, and I can heal the damage off with my Wish.

Start of turn 24
The foe's Mamoswine used Stealth Rock!
Pointed stones float in the air around scepticallistic's team!

Clefable used Trick!
Clefable switched items with the foe's Mamoswine!
Clefable obtained one Choice Scarf!
The foe's Mamoswine obtained one Flame Orb!

The foe's Mamoswine's Flame Orb activated!
The foe's Mamoswine was burned!
The foe's Mamoswine is hurt by its burn!
Clefable is hurt by its burn!

Well. It would have been nice if he had been locked into Stealth Rock by extension of Scarf, but I like a Burned Mamoswine better. An obvious Trick is coming up to get rid of Clefable's Scarf.

Start of turn 25
Opponent called Mamoswine back!
Opponent sent out Abomasnow!

Clefable used Trick!
Clefable switched items with the foe's Abomasnow!
Clefable obtained one Leftovers!

And here we come full circle, back to our lead faceoff. However, Clefable now has the useful Leftovers and his Abomasnow is Scarfed. I use Protect to scout his move, since he'll be locked.

Start of turn 26
Clefable used Protect!
Clefable protected itself!

The foe's Abomasnow used Substitute!
The foe's Abomasnow made a substitute!

Hail continues to fall!
Clefable is buffeted by the hail!
Clefable is hurt by its burn!

Well that was interesting. He's now locked into Substitute and I finally decide to switch to my Stealth Rocker since his Abomasnow will be killing himself, Substituting without Lefties. Of course, he could switch, but Donphan will be okay.

Start of turn 27
scepticallistic called Clefable back!
scepticallistic sent out Donphan!
Pointed stones dug into Donphan!

The foe's Abomasnow used Substitute!
The foe's Abomasnow already has a substitute.
The foe's Abomasnow hasn't enough energy left!

It appears he's wanting to sacrifice his yeti, since he left it in on a useless move. I take this free turn to Stealth Rock.

In comes the fridge. I decide to stay in and use Assurance, since his Rotom is almost dead and Donphan has served his job- he won't be walling my opponent's Heatran very well and the burned Mamoswine is unthreatening to pretty much everyone.

Start of turn 29
The foe's Rotom-F used Blizzard!

Opponent sent out Mamoswine!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Mamoswine!

Spr_4h_051.png
vs.
473.png

Well, that was an eventful turn. He KOs Donphan with Blizzard but perishes to Life Orb. He then sacrifices his Abomasnow to scout my switch-in. I decide to go to Dugtrio since he wont be doing much revenging with only two members left and to apply offensive pressure. I stay in since I don't mind Dugtrio dying.

Start of turn 30
The foe's Mamoswine used Ice Shard!
It's super effective!

Dugtrio used Earthquake!
The attack of Dugtrio missed!

Hail continues to fall!
Dugtrio is buffeted by the hail!

Fascinating. I survive the obvious Ice Shard since Mamoswine's burn halved the attack, but I miss my Earthquake thanks to Snow Cloak. Oh well. No loss.

Start of turn 31
The foe's Mamoswine used Ice Shard!
It's super effective!
Dugtrio lost 5 HP! (2% of its health)

scepticallistic sent out Drapion!
Pointed stones dug into Drapion!

Spr_4p_452.png

I decide to switch in one of my paired late-game sweepers. I have a Swords Dance Drapion and a Swords Dance Feraligatr to power through opposition. Even though Swine can Earthquake supereffectively, I believe I can survive and attack it. I decide to go to Drapion instead of Feraligatr because I believe my gatr will handle his remaining Heatran better. I didn't know how much EQ will do, so I didn't bother to Swords Dance and get accidentally picked off by hail or Ice Shard, so I just opt to do some damage.

Start of turn 32
Drapion used Night Slash!

Fun stuff. I survive the Ice Shard but miss my Night Slash, but we both go down to residue. My loverly pink fairy rears its cute head once again. I go for a Trick to finally find out what the Heatran's item is, since my other moves aren't really as necessary now.

Start of turn 34

[Case Closed] His Heatran is a surprise Shuca variant. However, I saw that Clefable has (or rather, had) Lefties and hastily reclaim my food and prevent Heatran from gaining health.

Start of turn 35
The foe's Heatran used Flamethrower!
Clefable lost 153 HP! (38% of its health)

scepticallistic won the battle!

Though the battle was not a magnanimous exercise in deft battling skills, I still thoroughly enjoyed the match (also synonymous with: thoroughly enjoyed winning, and: thoroughly enjoyed antagonizing the opponent team with a pink fairy with a fast hand). I started off somewhat intensely but became lax at the end. Hopefully it was at least somewhat enjoyable and the mistakes weren't too cringe-worthy. I neglected to put in damage percentages since calculating them would involve lots of busy-work math, what with the crazy burn status and hail weather rampaging about. Hopefully my comments helped you understand the conditions.

Moo?

Sorry about that, I didn't think the colors were obnoxious shades but rather soothing pastels.

The log is also pretty much unformatted from the Pokemon Online log saved.

In general, warstories where you use UU teams (or any other stupid gimmick) against all OUs are not interesting to read. The match being close at all means you are either lucky as hell or your opponent is terrible. Your team is awful and you only won because your opponent makes random illogical moves (not ESing your Dugtrio, using Ice Shard on Clefable, I could go on for a paragraph but I think I've made my point).

Edit: I guess this a bit too harsh. The comments are really good, and it's obvious you've put some time into the warstory. Not too bad for a second warstory.

You left your opponent's name in when Donphan Stealth Rocked.

Anyways, wasn't bad, but wasn't terribly exciting. A few good thought processes shown. No extremespeed against dugtrio is really odd though, and your opponent was too much of a sucker to the trick game.

Your comments are good but there just wasn't anything special in this battle. If anything, there were some bad moves on both sides and the match got a bit closer only thanks to hax. Try and find a better battle and make a warstory out of that, you're certianally capable.

I couldn't read, too many colours...

Same, but without the 'u' in colors. It was distracting. Other than that I thought the battle was ok. Everyone loves a good UUnderdog win (except for the OU guys). Your opponent (whose name you may have accidentally left in once or twice?) made a few questionable plays (no ExtremeSpeed on your Dugtrio when Lucario was obviously going down to an EQ, substitute with his Scarfed Abomasnow...), but it was still an enjoyable battle, though there was not a whole lot of suspense since you were in control the whole match and it was never really in doubt after you took out his Lucario.

The point of warstories is to chronicle the metagame as it progresses, using a UU team in the OU ladder defeats the purpose. The commentary was passable. The battle, not so much.

Good read, but it seemed a bit too one-sided for a warstory. That guy seemed absolutely clueless how to handle clefable, and rather inexperienced overall . . .

comments where reasonable shame the battle was nothing special and the colours if you use them need to be more clear rather then light shades

Bullshit. The point of warstories is to entertain, just like Pokemon.

Decent warstory, but your opponent made quite a few very puzzling moves and had literally nothing to deal with your Clefable, besides his Lucario which he sacrificed to no apparent benefit. You did pretty much the best job you could with that battle, but a better battle would have improved this to no end. 5/10
