Metalheads United ;D

i wasn't mocking their name. they are one of the worst metal bands i've ever heard. kind of like an ADHD-ridden, sloppy, incoherent version of a middle-of-the-road band (maudlin of the well).

you really are one of the biggest trolls ever

what gives you the right to dismiss august burns red, as i lay dying, and killswitch engage when i can't bash unexpect?? oh i get it, some "metalhead" congregation content with musical peasantry decided that some bands that fall at a reasonable place between underground and mainstream -- nothing too obvious, but nothing too daring or unsafe -- are metal canon. and you can't ever argue with any of it or it's trolling.

ive learned a lot from g80

anything he dislikes i have a 60% chance of liking, and anything he likes i have an 80% chance of disliking entirely

he is a helpful troll.

to be on topic... first of all, rip dio.. second.. has anyone heard anything about Pain of Salvation's new half-album Road Salt or whatever they're calling it? Is it worth listening to? I enjoyed Remedy Lane quite a bit, enough to listen to it consistently for at least a month (on my last.fm they jumped into the top eight.. which isnt really a big feat but i had like 160 plays of them just from remedy lane) Ive listened to TPE once and im overloaded with music right now that i just downloaded..

also.. going to see Iron Maiden and Dream Theater at MSG in two months.. probably gonna be the best concert ive been to.. it all depends on the setlist for dt really. right now the order is Opeth(xx evo)>DT/ZPZ>DT/opeth/btbam yeah i go to a lot of concerts!!

I'm very, very, very sadden by his death. Ronnie James Dio was my all time favorite vocalist and I'm just real heart broken to find out he is no longer living. Ten years ago a man known as Chuck Schuldiner died of brain cancer, he was often hailed as the father of death metal however he was one of the nicest people. I heard rumors he had died when I woke up this morning, Wendy Dio his wife confirmed that to be a hoax and I was relieved. I came home today around six P.M. and found now he really dies. Ronnie James Dio was among one of the nicest people in the music industry. His memory and his music will live on forever and inspire many.

Because they are actually shit bands that suck at playing their shit? Calling UneXpect sloppy is like calling the sky green. You don't have to like them but calling them sloppy is just... dumb.

I like Lady Gaga and Snow Patrol. It isn't about what is metal or not. I don't give a shit about what "metal canon" is. Those bands mentioned - they are shit. That's how it is. I like Stone Sour. I like a lot of nu-metal, alt rock, barely metal stuff. I just don't call it metal considering that's not what it is. Whether I like something is a different matter. I don't like KSE (the fucken sugary singer pisses me off to no end), I heard As I Lay Dying and found it incredibly annoying, and August Burns Red - well if I have to believe the reviews it's no different sound-wise than any of the other things that's out there in that genre. I don't like metalcore, I never will, not my shit, apart from Converge (which is barely even metalcore so anyway).

PS RIP Dio even though I barely like any of his music, I recognise his character as one of the most important people in metal.

Lol Lady Gaga and Snow Patrol.

Most of those bands aren't exactly shit just because the sound of the music doesn't appeal to you.

Yeah they may be able to play their shit but I don't care for "raaaagh raagh *WIDDLY EMO LEAD* chugga chugga EAST BAY HARDCORE BREAKDOWN" every song. Intelligent shit, you know.

but splattering a little bit of everything on a musical canvas with no rhyme or reason, only to sound ~uNiQuE~ is highly intelligent. oh right you love dream theater, never mind.

Meh, I think most metalcore sounds the same, but I don't hate any piece of music just because of it's genre, I just hate it because it sucks, some of my favourite bands are post hardcore or an offshoot of metalcore but then there's awful crap like Attack Attack and such, either way, you two should shush with your arguin bullshit.

Anyways, I am now listening to a band that calls themselves Schizo Metal. Ram-Zet. Pretty good IMO. Discuss, without degenerating into pointless argument or flame wars?

except there is rhyme and reason oh wait but you don't know that because oh wait everything that is prog metal automatically throws things at a canvas without rhyme or reason

two can play at your prejudice game

good band

god dio is awful.

i'm liking suicide silence right now, especially the album "the cleansing" and particularly enjoy the songs the price of beauty and bludgeoned to death.

prejudice? that would imply i never listened to unexpect. which i did, or i wouldn't be claiming it was a festering pile of shit.

no it doesn't, it implies you have some sort of prejudice against any band that is not "streamlined" because if it throws in different elements "it is not coherent"

i never made any blanket statements condemning bands for experimenting with different influences. there's a marked difference between bands that do this with restraint and a clear artistic objective, and those that just throw in random shit to sound "cool" or "different".

and you can tell the extent of difference how

everyone has their own opinions.
I personally think uneXpect is a great band.
But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

if you are oblivious enough to listen to unexpect and not think they are the latter then by all means keep listening to them, i'm clearly not going to change your opinion.

i am inclined to agree that UneXpect is a bit of a hodge-podge with little form or structure to be much more than a whirlwind and mess.

but sometimes that's breathtaking, and sometimes that's exactly what i want to hear.

i think a band like Shining does a much better job og being completely out there and experimental, while still maintaining a strong core of "this is who we are and this is the music we play", if that makes any sense.
