It's pretty much entirely a choice scarf move, since there isn't a good 4th move when scarfed. It's an anti-Shedinja move that also takes care of Ludicolo, Toxicroak and a few other things. You're correct that protect is a better option when not scarfed. As long as your team has 1-3 ways to deal with Shedinja, you shouldn't have a need to use hidden power flying on an unscarfed Kyogre. Things that go along with Kyogre that can counter Shedinja include Toxicroak/Hitmontop(sucker punch), Palkia(flamethrower) and Abomasnow(auto-hail).

All of those have their issues though, which is why it's a good idea to have more than one way to deal with Shedinja. Sucker punch can be stalled out by non-attack moves since it only have 8 PP. Flamethrower doesn't really fit with a rain team too well, although it does the required 1hp damage to Shedinja; it goes back to normal power if an enemy Abomasnow comes out, as well, and you'll be able to OHKO it. Abomasnow's autohail is able to kill Shedinja in one turn, regardless of focus sash, but if Abomasnow is already out and they change the weather somehow, he's rendered useless unless you've got something else alive that can switch out with Abomasnow to allow him to reactivate hail.

So yeah, probably went a bit overboard with information, but hope I helped :)
Thanks a lot! If I can get the IVs for it, it's generally a better option than Ancientpower on ScarfOgre, right?

Question. Which seems better?

Timid Kyogre with Choice Specs?
or
Modest Kyogre with Choice Scarf?

I can't seem to decide.

Well It's not using any tool that physically connects to the game cartridge which is where I was hoping to get some answers. Since we don't exactly know how Nintendo Hack Checks it's not exactly far fetched you know. So yeah, no need for the attitude bro.

Sorry, I didn't mean for it to come off that way.

I do get what you mean though. It is a rather "clean" hack, but it is still a hack. That's all I'll say.

Would using this method technically be cheating? Since it doesn't use an external tool.

If the pokemon you get from it has normal IVs/EVs/Moveset/Nature/Gender/Ability/Pokeball/and "Met at Screen", then it won't fail the TPCi Hack Check. However, I could see this as being something easy to screw up, and it would really suck to travel to Atlanta, Newark or Indi and get DQ'd just cuz you don't want to take the time to find somebody willing to trade you a "legit" poke here on smogon.

Right, I see where you're going with the issue. I'm going to the Atlanta VGC anyway so it's not far for me, but obviously I'd rather not get DQ'd for something that is unconfirmed as being able to bypass a hack since all it does is really just make HG think that its utilizing the GTS to obtain a poke'mon. Anyways, does anyone have a trade thread with a Quiet UT Dialga?

a lot of people talk about scarfed giratina......are they talking about adamant choice scarf or jolly speed scarfed?????

Both. Adamant Scarf will pretty much always go first or 50/50 with a Modest Scarf Ogre. More importantly, it does more damage, and if you get into a "Scarf Gira War", yours will come back 2nd if you're facing a +Speed Scarf Giratina.

-----------------------------

Now for a question of my own.

I know I saw the answer to this somewhere, but I can't remember where. Anyway, if we're using a pokemon from a Japanese cart, how do we name it on the team sheet? A link to the post would be fine if someone happens to know it.

Leave the nickname blank, put the real name under Pokemon.

Does this work

Ludicolo Fakes Out Slaking

Alakazam uses Skill Swap on Slaking and Slaking gets Inner Focus

Slaking doesn't Flinch and uses his move

I don't think it should, as the flinch attempt has already been placed upon the Slaking, I was under the impression that Inner Focus prevented the pokemon from being affected by the flinch chance, but the flinch is already decided.

So, how true is this comic?

wow really?. anyways i think its not true at all. but it is gut bustinly funny. six pikachu hahahaha

Question- i was wondering if anyone had an insight on how the TPCI or thier system work because i am wondering what chances are that next year's VGC's worlds champoinship location will be closer to the california side. nothing too far from seattle like new york or an island like alaska/hawaii

TPCi plans the world championships 2 years ahead of time. They announce the next worlds location AT worlds. Never before hand. EVER.

So far here are the world championships:
Orlando>San Diego>LA>Kona>Orlando>San Diego>Hawaii

Take that as you will.

Can Assist call in your partner's move, or only Pokemon in their Pokeball? Also, is the target of Assist's selected move random?

I'm not the guy in the middle yet because I'm not 30 and I have friends to trade pokemon with, BUUT I will still probably be playing pokemon when I'm 30 so that's not saying much.

There should be a middle area teens and young adults that love playing pokemon, arent obsessed and rape everyone at it. Or there should be a smogon column, that would work also. I know it is just a comic though, it was pretty funny.

I'm trying to get a team together and was wondering what would be the best EV spread for a Kyogre, should I go with a 252 HP/ 252 SpA/ 4 Def, or 252 SpA/ 252 Spe/ 4 Def?
EDIT: its a Hasty nature
