This Encourage ability could be amazing. For example, the aforementioned Flare Blitz on this thing: Base 180 (with STAB), 100 accuracy move with no recoil? Sounds pretty nice. I just hope it's an offensive pokemon!

According to serebii it says that it boosts the power of moves but there wont be any secondary effects. I don't think recoil is a secondary effect....secondary effects are things that have a chance of occuring like burning or flinching. Serene grace doesnt boost recoil?

Wow, you guys are making a lot of crazy assumptions about this Encourage ability. I will tell you right now that recoil is not considered a secondary effect. Overheat and Close Combat's reductions in stats are also not secondary effects.
Wait what? So they're no secondary effects yet they're listed as secondary effects on most sites. What do you consider them then?

Secondary effect only covers status conditions, confusion, flinch, and maybe one other thing. Recoil, and any move that inflicts a status condition or stat reduction will hurt the Pokemon using it no matter what.

with all these new abilities getting cranked out I hope GF spreads love and gives some older pokes some of these new abilities too. Then again, I don't want Garchomp getting Earthquake Spiral as a second ability

If it did, then that'd put an end to the debate over whether is should be uber. Scarfchomp would destroy pretty much everything!

If you think about it, a pokemon with serene grace doesn't get -4 special attack if it uses something like leaf storm, yet the stat drop is still considered a secondaty effect. I think Encourage is just like the opposite of serene grace with a boost. It only removes the chances of secondary effects like stat drops, stat boosts, and status.

It can't be recoil because it is guaranteed. Sites list them as secondary effects because techincally they are. Ex. Use overheat, you do damage, then your sp.attack drops. It really is the second thing to happen but its not really a seconday effect.

Secondary effects are everything that say "May cause _____" they have a chance of occuring. Encourage is the opposite of serene grace, instead of doubling the chance of fire blast burning, it removes it. So a pokemon with encourage will never burn the opponent using fire blast.

Ok well Fire Blast has a chance to burn, so I guess it will receive a power boost. Honestly, that might be ridiculous, depending on the boost. If it is 1.5x, we are looking at a Pokemon who can fire off 270 base power (after STAB + Encourage) fire attacks. I wonder if it works for ALL attacks, because it says "this ability boosts the power of the attacks used by the Pokemon but disables any secondary effect that they have." Here's hoping they give it Eruption... lolz, 337.5 base power.

You're absolutely correct here. My opinion on this ability went from "Wow, Gamefreak made another potentially damaging ability" to "Meh".

I'm going to agree with the idea that Encourage merely disables the chance to burn/paralyze/flinch/freeze, but still keep the effects that always occur. (Recoil, stat drop...etc)

On how much it'll boosts moves by...I'm going to guess 10%, but anything between 10% to 20% is viable. Life Orb gives a universal 30% boost, but comes at a 10% HP loss per attack move and cost an item slot, whereas the type-specific items grants 20% to that type. (Muscle Band and Wise Glasses are 10%) This ability is automatic (ie. no item cost), and the tradeoff is quite minimal, so unless GF severely gimps the baboon's stat in favor of an overpowered ability, it's not going to be something ridiculous like 50%.

On TurboBlaze and TeraVoltage, anyone else get the vibe that it's going to be the Uber's form of adaptability? 2x STAB for Fire and Electric moves, respectively, sounds pretty good.

Whats so magnificent about a Fire/Dragon type? Don't get me wrong, I love Reshiram. Im just confused as to why this typing is so great. Is it the fact Ice loses effectiveness?

Its STAB combination is only resisted by Heatran, who would probably take a shitload from Draco Meteor and most dragons can learn EQ or Earth Power.

It's because you get a STAB combination resisted only by Heatran. Dragon is only resisted by Steel, but fire hits nearly all steel types in ubers for super-effective damage.

Plus, heatran is mauled by Earth Power/Earthquake anyway.

EDIT: Darn, blasphemy beat me to the punch.

So, if you had the choice between using Reshiram or Zekrom in your uber team who would you pick?

And does Zekrom have any advantages?

It's typing is slightly better from a defensive stance, lacking a Stealth Rock weakness. It also keeps its water resistance, unlike Reshiram. STAB Thunder is something we haven't seen in Ubers, and Dragon + Electric is only resisted by Steelix and Magnezone. I'd probably test them both before deciding, but when it comes to the actual cartridges I'll be buying both.

From a defensive standpoint, most ubers pack Ice moves to deal with Dragons, with Reshiram is not weak to.

That's true, plus Reshiram resists both STABs of Scizor. We will really have to wait and see their stats to speculate any further, beyond obvious weaknesses/resistances.

Serene Grace doesn't make the secondary effect double, it just gives it twice the chance of happening. So an effect that has a 100% chance of happening still has a 100% chance of happening. I really think that the stat drops from Overheat/Close Combat and the recoil from Flare Blitz aren't counted as secondary effects. The fact that it gives them a boost is still worthwhile, though.

The reason I didn't think any of the other Pokemon will evolve is because they already look like they could be the final stage. Shimama looks a lot like Girafarig, which doesn't evolve, so that's why I thought it wouldn't evolve either. I didn't realize it was so tiny, so it could still get an evo. The reason I didn't think Gearu wouldn't get an evo is because it has Plus and Minus which means it's likely meant to be a gimmick Pokemon. Meguroko also looks like it's along the lines of a Pokemon like Girafarig.

I guess we will.

You know what I find weird? I think we had an Electric-Dragon type in the CAP metagame, and now they're making a signature legendary that exact type. Kind of odd if you ask me. Coincidence?

On another note, I would love it if certain items got overowrldly effects. For example, leftovers would act as a poison in reverse, healing the holder by a certain percent every few steps.

I'm really hoping that they do not make Chiramii the Pachirisu of the 5th Gen. Please GameFreak, give it an evolution!
