Lucario is based on a jackal when he got no shit to do with one. same for anubis since all he got to do with one is the fact its based on a jackal.

gengar can also steal dreams and was made with that in mind. he is based on a ghost but dont fully act like one.

is she a baku? yeah i think it is, but dont mean its the same evo family.

until oficial confirmation its better to not say IT IS, its better to just say I THINK IT IS.

edit:on the bridge....is that guy maybe the vomit hair freak we saw? the green haired one?

Well I'll be disappointed if that's the case. I'm more of a fan of creatures than odd folklore, although it seems like the majority of Pokemon were created with folklore in mind. When I look at Farfetch'd I don't think "oh that's clearly based on a myth", I think "that's a cool duck that jumped out of the pot and is fighting with his leek." =/

Regarding evolutions, they could easily implement something where a Pokemon can evolve by using a stone on them while they're holding a specific item.

Really though, all the stones need more recipients.

These things look cool so far....I'm actually liking all these pokes, though I'm waiting for the starters' evos

I like how the sprites look bigger and more detailed, and the fact that now we'll have actual backsprites, not those weird things we had 4th gen (re: palkia's backsprite, and so many others) I also like how it seems like the pokemon are becoming other colors, like that mantis thing, which is a color i don't even have a name for, or how the tarantula and the handed sarcophagus are different shades of yellow

gen V looks promising

BUT!!!!
SERIOUSLY?!?!
3 ON 3 BATTLES!?!?

that leaves me speechless in a bad way
(that and that fire monkey, which I hope wont be fire/fighting)

your comment about colours made me think about some stuff.

will maybe some older generations(4 and below) be re-coloured? not different colours, for example do you think Lucario Blue will become a little bit darker to make more real or just the same shit, different sprite and/or moving?

edit:maybe not darker since i just checked and he is dark-blue enough already. maybe the other way around? anyway i think you guys get my point.

As much fun as it is arguing over evos and prevos that we can't prove yet, why don't we work on things we have numbers for.

The sarcophogas had HP of 121 at level 50 and the tarantula had 130.

Does anyone have a calculation that might give some insight to their base HP? I realize it's a shot in the dark without knowing nature, EV, IV but it should still give us some more insight into these new pokes....

Edit: Nevermind. I used the formula from Bulbapedia. Assuming IV of 31, neutral nature and 0 EVs in HP, the Pharaoh has 55 base HP and Spidey has 65. I thought the sarcophogas would be higher for a seemingly defensive poke, but I suppose Dusknoir does have a base of 45...

I think they will have the exact same sprites as Gen IV, just reanimated. I'm pretty sure Entei and Raikou had the same sprites in the videos we saw.

Nature doesn't affect HP, so is there another formula?

i am going to be very sad if the re-use all sprites from generation 4. each time a new generation come out i try to imagine the new sprites, did they re-used any sprite from gen 3 to 4?

IIRC, the only Ghost Pokemon with above average HP are Drifbim and Giratina so it's not surprising to see another Ghost with low HP. It will probably have above average Def and SpDef to make up for this.

Edit: For some reason, I think I remember reading on Bulbapedia that Donphan kept the same sprite from Adv to DP. Also, I don't think tropius changed much because there isn't a whole lot you can do with a sprite that big. The fact that the sprites are animated are good enough for me to consider them new sprites. GF clearly didn't half-ass it.

That formula is wrong. HP does not use the same formula as any other stats. According to smogon:

HP = ((2 * BaseStat + IV + (EV / 4)) * Level / 100 + Level + 10)

So, assuming 0 EV's and an IV of 31, they would have 46 and 55 base HP respectively.

As long as the Ghost has pretty high Special Defense, then I can see it as being useful (unless its low with a fantastic movepool of course)

I wonder if the relationship between Sarcophagi, Pyramids and Sand will be used? (though would make it Ghost/Ground -> Ghost/Rock?)

I am very very very excited about all this mention of the desert and of the ruins and such that can be explored. It speaks a bit better about the possibilites of getting most, if not all Fossil pokemon in game. But if this is going the way of R/S/E then it would be unlikely... >.>

I'll probably build my Fossil/Steel Defensive team first, then work on a Ground/Rock Sandstorm team

The Sarcophaguy HP calculations seem about right from comparison with other Pokemon.
It could actually be below base 50 since I think Rotom hits 125 with max IVs and no EVs.
Ghosts usually have terrible HP anyway, Drifblim is a rare exception.

you know, Sarcophaghost doesn't have to be defencive...

also, I agree with Tseng. I love the desert, and I'm looking forward to the Pokemon you can get there (I'm hoping for a desert vulture Pokemon (Flying/Ground?)). I assume the Fossils would be found there, at least the new gens fossils.

I can't see a Sarcophagus being focused on offense. Unless it evolves into a Mummy-based pokemon or something, which is offense.

Sarcophagus just hints Defense in alot of ways. In other words, since its a Resting Place of the dead.

The average HP for a fully evolved Ghost Pokemon is ~68 , and if we take out the outliers (Shedinja, Driftblim, Giratina) then it comes down to ~56. The sarcophagus looks fully evolved, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. I'm hoping it's Ghost/Steel to abuse resistances > high defensive stats, similar to Rotom-A. It'd be cool if it's evolution line was similar to Porygon. It could be a defensive sarcophagus, then evolve into an offensive mummy. Ghost/Steel to Ghost/Fighting, maybe?

Its either a one-shot pokemon or the first stage. I really can't see a coffin pokemon being the final form. Its like having a graveyard pokemon that doesn't evolve into a zombie. It'd feel weird.

The Sarco ghost looks to be win in a Sandstorm team if it's part rock, especially if it has high base defense and special defense (which would then get boosted by sandstorm). Also, you could easily switch out 'Tar to this guy on an incoming fighting move.

Also, it would be cool if this was one of two evolutions, with this one being the defensive one, and the other being more mummy like, and offensive.

I think the problem is that usually the new evolution methods are used for evolutions of old pokemon. And so they have to make up new ways of evolution or else they can't explain why it didn't evolve like that in older versions.

See: Leafeon not evolving by Leaf Stone.

Edit: @ Above: HUH?

They don't need to make any new evolution methods, they can evolve any old pokémon with a specific location it couldn't go to or move it couldn't get before.

And we need the old methods to be used once again. Say, why don't they evolve that mole with a Moon Stone?

Regarding evolutions, they could easily implement something where a Pokemon can evolve by using a stone on them while they're holding a specific item.

I've always thought that stones should be able to affect a few Pokes that evolve by leveling up, just as a way to skip that part when I was a kid.

I mean, instead of getting your Skiploom to lvl 27, why can't we leaf-stone it for an early Jumpluff?

I don't know, probably a bad idea, someone's gonna criticize me for it, but I always thought it'd make sense =/

Sarcophagus-Hippowdon-Tyranitar seems an interesting setup for a triple battle in game. (not sure about Wifi)

I also want loads of pokemon this gen to evolve using stones, and give a easier way to get stones. I wanna go back to RBY and being able to buy stones.

I remember someone predicting that for a Ninty VGC 90% of teams will consist of Kyogre - Palkia - Zekrom, which is probably going to dominate the uber triple battle metagame.

XD

Speaking of metagame, we're gonna have to re-learn lotsa stuff for a new gen... -.- fun.

Sarco does look like it might be ghost/rock. But I do agree it should have an evolution. Hopefully. Or maybe it is one of those one-shot pokemon. :/

If its one-shot it'll be another of those awesome ideas that juuuust misses the mark by an inch...

I always wanted a Zombie pokemon, but a zombie wouldn't really fit in. A Mummy could possibly.
