What similarity? Both being an arachnid?
Vigroth and Slaking are based on Sloths though like Slakoth.
Slakoth -> Vigroth -> Slaking. Basically, its a modern day two-toed sloth going back through evolution to its Behemoth-like ancestor.
and both ariados and derencha or whatever it is called are based on spiders!
A tarantula is vastly different from a spider like Ariadros. Yes, they are both spiders, but the operate much different. For example. How to you explain Electura having Spider Web? (Tarantula's aren't web makers)
The creator, if I remember, was a major fan of insects (wanted to base the game on them) so I doubt it would sit well with him. I see a Tarantula being a bulky physical attacker. A more aggressive version of what Ariadros should have been.

well,i still hope it's an evo of ariados anyways.Ariados is deserving an evo so bad.

I couldn't really say that I liked this batch at first, but it grew on me. I like all of them except the floating green thing with arms. I guess it will be this generations' Probopass, huh?
All it needs is a stat boost. They made it far too weak, even for a Bug type.
If you wanted to create two spider Pokemon that looked completely distinct, it would be very easy; there are thousands of species of spider in existence, and it wouldn't take much effort to pick out two that looked extremely different from each other - or at least, were less aesthetically comparable than Ariados and Electula.
If you look at the distinction between the turtles and tortoises in Pokemon...let's say Torterra and Blastoise, there would never be any suggestion that they were related. Similarly with Ghost-types - Dusclops, Spiritomb and Banette are all different interpretations of what a 'ghost' might be, but despite all sharing the same colour scheme, still manage to avoid confusion with each other.
The very fact that Electula's similar enough to draw speculations of an evolution from Ariados is a testament to its similarity, I think. If they wanted to make an unrelated spider Pokemon, they could've done a lot better.
This is all well and good, but one thing you apparently forgot to mention (or perhaps I can't read), is HOW they are so similar. And please, please, please don't site the thingies on its abdomen. They don't even look like its other legs, nor are they in a similar position to Ariados' back legs.
Honestly, I feel like if you want to make any kind of spider, there aren't many ways you can make them that different. In general, a lot of spiders look pretty similar if you ignore their color schemes. Either way, is having wild fur not distinctive enough from Ariados?

Sooo...Dusclops was a mummy pokemon, and now we have a sarcophagus one too. Does anyone else think it'd be cool if they got some Slowbro-esque evo together? Some sort of dead Pharaoh?
I can imagine an ancient pyramid episode in the anime though, with scooby-doo references galore, and dusclops' hiding in this sarcophagi pokemon.

Mabye he could get a location evolution from dusclops,in some desert ruins,or there could be a rare item in some ruins.
yup that would be awesome dusclops evolving just to get more atacking points and the evolution doing the same thing as the pre-evo did, yes really great... (cough... dusknoir... cough)

No man, this is not the actual release date. Its an estimation used to go ahead and take reserves.
Month/Day/Year, considering he mentioned "April" later in the post. But Gamestop doesn't have a clue when the ACTUAL release date is, that's just an educated guess / placeholder until we find out from Nintendo.

I'm not seeing the Zaptula similarity to Ariados apart from the fact that they're both Arachnids.
The color scheme is very different, the most likely typing is weird for an evolution of a Bug/Poison, and it's all furry like a Tarantula and unlike Ariados.
Sure, we couldn't argue with them if they decided that a garden spider should evolve into a tarantula (Remoraid->Octillery lol) but I'd bet against it for now.
There are a lot of somewhat similar starter bugs (such as Butterfree/Beautifly and Venomoth/Dustox) that are not related.
I could see Zaptula being the early bug and Electric in one Pokemon.
That might not be best for its stats but there's hope since Luxray is OK apart from movepool.
The typing isn't bad cuz when Electric pairs with something that helps it's sole weakness it's mostly win, win defensively for the dual type.
The coverage isn't bad either because every single type that resists Bug takes neutral or SE damage from Electric with only some duals like Rotom, Zapdos or Gliscor resisting both.
The ability Static would fit the flavour since tarantula hairs can be irritating but I'm all for new abilities!

I would like a usable Spinarak. Ariados is badass enough to deserve the evo.
Ledyba is only good for breeding Baton Pass Gliscors. I don't want to see that thing evolve again.
