Japanese Movie Celebi Confirmed

Bottom line: Grass and Psychic are both terrible attacking types. Celebi's biggest strength will come in 100 speed + 100/100/100 defenses, Natural Cure and a host of resistances will make it an effective batton passer. It will be able to set up on all the many bulky waters of the meta. (Baton Pass also gets rid of its pursuit weakness)

I bet that the event scizor will have like 50 IVs in each stat and 255 evs in each cause nintendo is stupid. Make OU a hellhole the last few months.
And now that I see raikou has a defense lowering nature, it might not have quite the staying power. It means it will have trouble competing with suicune, cause I saw them struggling for a "quick calm mind boost sweeper". Although I guess they have different roles. I could actually see them working together. Suicune weakens team early game with it's bulkyhitting, raikou cleans up with speed.

raikou not having a speed nature make him useless IMO, he will be stucked in BL forever and forever because of the lack of speed what is his most important stat, way to troll us like usual gamefreak, iron head jirachi was not enough for you guys huh?

That's the reason why celebi is only viable because of it's basestats and semi decent move pool.

I'm still saying that even if Celebi gets NP, it won't be used often.
And all the speculation that it would use NP+3 attacks, to me, isn't going to happen.
If anything, it'll eventually use NP/Recover + 2 attacks, since its natural bulk and defensive typing are what make it usable and appealing.

Errr, defensive typing?
Celebi unless it packs HP Fire, will get destroyed by Scizor. And I am sure you know how common Scizor is
Celebi's typing is the reason she is not in Ubers.
Infernape will always keep it at bay, with Choice Band Flare Blitz

Of course, there's always Scizor.
Hopefully you pack a trapper Magnezone on your team to dispose of it quickly!
And, they have really good synergy together, bar both of their fire weakness.

Event sites such as Pokémon Secure and blogs have said this Celebi will be random natured. Pokémon Secure got this info when one of their members got tickets to an early screening of the movie.

Didn't feel like this deserved its own thread.

Well, Magnezone is not much use here, since Scizor will 100% U-Turn against Celebi, making switching Magnezone in next to useless. You could try to double switch Magnezone in, but even if you successfully trap the Scizor there, you need to be using a Magnezone that is both faster and runs HP fire (otherwise Scizor not locked into Bullet Punch can OWN you with Superpower). Both running the speed to outrun Scizor and HP Fire (which has very forgettable base power and coverage with electric) make Magnezone a lot less effective as an independent pokemon than it would otherwise be . . .

I see something like this becoming very popular:

Celebi:
Timid
HP Investment: High Sp.ATK Investment: Low Speed: 252 Speed
@Leftovers
-Grass Knot / Psychic
-Hidden Power Fire / Thunder Wave
-Nasty Plot
-Baton Pass

edit: Let's hope that GF are kind to Celebi, as these are the first Celebi with the potential to be TRULY competitive since GSC. That's a LOOOOOONNNG ass wait . . .

On that note, will the event moves be implemented on Shoddy anytime soon? I want to go ahead and test out New Entei in UU already...

Celebi might. The new event moves for Raikou, Suicune, and Entei will not be added due to their nature-move restriction which cannot be replicated in SB1.

+2 earth power ko'es scizor after rocks. I'd run nasty plot/earth power/energy ball (grass knot fails imo)/recover, and just earth power as soon as it comes in, hitting fires on the switch. If scizor comes in, earth power again for the KO. Celebi won't be sweeping until late game, especielly since I forsee a rise in brongzong/skarmory/scarfscizor to deal with this.

>____>

With Grass/Ground coverage Celebi won't sweep period. To me, unless you can find a combo that gives good coverage, it would seem more beneficial to invest in bulk and speed rather than S.A in terms of EVs/Nature.

Oddly, Psychic/Ground might be the best combo.

Really, Raikou's pretty strong, most of the things that can outrun him without a +Speed nature don't have the power to OHKO him (bar choice scarf) and this Raikou's also getting weather ball which gives him a 100BP ice move in hail. Thaaat's pretty nice when you realize that it provides perfect coverage with his STAB, I guess he could work on a rain-team too, Water/Electric isn't bad coverage either, and if you're ballsy enough you could get away with using Thunder.

I definitely think Life Orb Psychic/Earth Power/Nasty Plot/Recover Timid Celebi would be worth a try. The calcs are pretty impressive; +2 Psychic does 47% - 55.7% to SpD Skarmory, which means even being "walled" by Skarmory isn't too terrible. +2 Earth Power does 74.1% - 87.5% to Scizor, meaning it will die if it has come into Stealth Rock one previous time, which isn't unreasonable to expect. 160 HP Tyranitar takes 74% - 87.7% from +2 Earth Power, and has a fair chance to OHKO min HP Tyranitar. Even though I'd still be more worried about Baton Passing Nasty Plots, I definitely think Celebi will be viable as a NP sweeper in its own right.

Something like: Thunder, Aura Sphere, Weather Ball, filler; where the filler is likely CM (or in the case of choice Raikou, Shadow Ball, Extrasensory, or a complementary Hidden Power, like HP Grass). Too bad Aura Sphere or Weather Ball would require rash nature...

I think Scizor would probably Bug Bite rather than U-turn. Celebi can run Protect, and I sure as heck would if every Scizor is going to U-turn.

You lock Scizor into the move, and then double switch. Sounds pretty simple to me.

Nasty Plot/Protect/2 moves with good coverage

Yeah, but how many people use Abomasnow? IMO running HP Ice/Thunderbolt/Aura Sphere would be the way to go. Aura Sphere is really only helping against Tyranitar. Personally I would use the normal Shadow Ball/HPIce/Thunderbolt combo, just because of Celebi, I don't find CSTar scary, especially when they are locked onto EQ

These event moves will clearly up the stakes when dealing with Celebi and Entei. The other dogs, not so much. Celebi now has the option to be a deadly sweeper or Baton Passer. Entei finally has a few decent physical moves. With the right sets these two could definitely switch things up.

On a side note, not adding Flare Blitz and Extremespeed to Entei's move pool on Shoddy would be idiotic. You can't control its nature on WiFi either. (Yes, there is something called Pokesav).
