Most Generation PRNG Help / Information

Big delays = boring.
It sucks, but it's worth it. Make sure you set your clock early as well, because PikaTimer probably says to set it a minute or two early.

I don't understand this, could that be the reaosn why none of my elm calls match? Maybe it's cause I'm not setting the clock on my DS early enough?

I highly doubt it. PikaTimer has a box that says "Minutes Before Target," and that box will have a number (1, 2) if your delay is high enough. PikaTimer will do this automatically, so if it just says 0, then you shouldn't need to adjust at all.

A few quick questions. I already have my shiny egg, and I've saved on frame 5. My target frame is 12. This is DPPt breeding, so how exactly would I get to frame 12? Also, when using the journal to advance the frames, if the first page comes up with a caught/defeated pokemon will it advance the frame by 2 or not?

if you're talking about HGSS, Sudowoodo is Method K not Method 1, just like all pokes you have to approach (Ho-Oh, Lugia, Snorlax, etc.)

I know he's method K, but there's this column in the seed finder that says "method 1 frame" that gives a frame of 38 when Im only aiming for 4 and I was just wondering if that had any effect on my result (pretty much if this is the actual frame I got or not). I hit the right delay in the end but my result wasnt shiny nor did it have the same nature or ivs as what I was aiming for, so Im wondering what I did wrong. If I really did get an insanely high frame, how'd it increase by so much in the span of 3 quick channel switches?

Okay so i successfully abused a pokemon, but it wasnt the one i wanted the most (as i am sweet scenting the grass) i got a bidoof, but wanted a starly.

If i do it again with the same time and what not, will it be the same exact pokemon again? If so, should i just pick a different time, hoping it will fix it, or what should i do?

I hope somebody understands my question.

The column that says method 1 frame doesnt apply if you are doing any other method. It scared me too, saying i was always on the wrong frame. I would say dont worry about that column unless you are doing method 1 pokes

do everything you did before, but this time pick a different frame. Pick one that gives starly as the encountered Pokemon. To do this slelect a frame for the seed your using on the main window of RNG reporter, right click on it and select "calculate encounter slots" then a window will pop up and show you the encounter slot for sweet scenting, look for the one that says sweet scenting in grass. Then look at the table found in this post http://www.smogon.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1821938&postcount=6 for the game you're using and if the number displayed in the window matches the one for starly in that location in the table then starly will appear on that frame.

I want to RNG abuse IVs for a NON-shiny pokemon in SS.
Q: Do I have to go through the same process (see Riski's guide) as breeding a shiny pokemon?

Ok, I am trying to hatch a shiny egg using ShinyFinder. I used it twice no problem - shiny Charmander and shiny Eevee. Now I am trying to get a shiny Baltoy with a delay of 597. So I double-click on the time/delay I want, it open up a list of sister delays for that time/delay, normal as ever. Start my game, go through the process, flip the coin ten times aaaannndd the coin flips I got do not match anything within the sister list.

So I did it again, but this time I expanded the list from 589-609 to 500-700. Did the process, flipped coin ten times, and STILL, I apparently did not hit any delay between 500-700. I double-checked my time, I double-checked my date, I double-checked by ID and SID. Did it 5 more times and made sure I was turning on the same 3 codes every single time (egg hatch, data checker, cloning). Still, NOTHING between 500-700. What could be causing this? I'm supposed to be doing a few BPs, but I can't if this keeps up!

Still having this same problem. I resaved, set my clock to a different day, different year, used different delays, changed everything and I am still having this problem. I even did a few non-shiny breeding projects just fine, but when I came back to doing shiny, nothing. It would really be helpful if someone could explain why this is happening.

You may have chosen a delay too close to your calibrated and you are simply not able to enter the game to hit that delay. If you're on DPPt, keep your wanted delays at 600 and up. For HGSS, keep them at 500 at up.

In your case, I'd advise even more leeway, like 615 and higher.

OK, this is just something interesting I've found during my own little tests.
Around 1 in 100 attempts I receive a seed not listed (or not quite listed) by RNG Reporter.

HGSS
Desired Seed: 05170278 (Desired Frame 13 - not that that matters).
Delay: 622.
Date: 31/07/2010
Roamers Saved at: R-30 , E-44 , L-5

Poketimer Setup:
Calibrated Delay: 480
Wanted Delay: 622
Calibrated Second: 14
Wanted Second: 00
Other Delay: +37

I'd been getting within +/- 5 on the delay, with the second right. However, about 1 in 100 turns, I keep getting;

R-39 , E-31 , L-20

Excluding Latios, this matches up with the 619 delay (3 early).
Expanding the range, this matches up with -4 seconds, with a delay of 576 - however I am certain (through ridiculous numbers of trials at this) that I'm nowhere near that far off.

Any ideas what might be causing this.

EDIT:
Just got this again, except Latios again in a different location, this time L-18.

Captured a Poke this time, no (intentional) advancement of Frame.
Nature: Sassy
IVs: 16, 17, 18 / 3, 4, 5 / 2, 3, 4 / 16 / 29 / 12, 14 (sorry, working off stats, characteristic and HP)

Dunno if that helps.

No, I can hit 597 way easier than I can hit 615. That's how I got my other shiny Pokemon. But that's not my problem, my problem is that I'm hitting delays below 500 and above 700 every single time instead of the average 597-603 I usually get, but I'm doing nothing different. I'm doing everything I have been doing for the past two weeks and all of a sudden it just stopped working.

When this happens to me, I change the seed I'm using and see how the new seed behaves, and a new seed usually means a different delay.

You should be using Pikatimer. You're severely limiting your RNG if you're using a clock with second and keeping your delays close to your calibrated.

First of all, I already stated that I tried changing my seed.

Second of all, what did I say that implied I didn't use Pikatimer? I have always been using Pikatimer. I chose a delay of 597 because I just need to calibrate for a shiny egg with a Bold nature, and I can hit 597 90% the first time. I don't need IVs just yet. Once I get the shiny, I can use whatever the hell other delay I need to get the IVs.

Thanks for the response. When i plug my seed in on the main page, and right click on one of the frame options, the 'calculate encounter slots' option is greyed-out, and i cant click on it.

So I'm new to RNG'ing. I understand how to go through the motions... Although I'm not terrificly good at it. I tend to hit delays in a range of +/- 20, so hitting my target seed tends to be difficult. The only thing I've "successfully" RNG'ed for is a Shaymin. I missed my target seed, but ran the seed I actually hit through the RNG Reporter and found a 0/1/31/31/31/31 spread, and decided to keep it.

Anyway, part of my problem is finding good spreads to actually go for. For instance, I'm interested in RNG'ing for a Latias. I want her to be Timid and have HP Fire 70. Other than that, I want the IVs to be as good as possible, but don't have to be 100% perfect.

Which program will help me find a good seed the easiest... RNG Reporter, or Wichu's?

you have to have the method set to J if your using DPP or K if your using HGSS

Many people who limit their delays don't use Pikatimer. That's what implied it. High delays are not solely for for IV RNG. You can use high delays for egg nature RNG if it happens to get you a better seed.

Contrary to what you might think, not all the details of your RNG problem are that clearly written. On first reading of your problem, it seemed to me you weren't even getting matching Elm calls. Later it turns out you are getting huge swinging delays, so that means some Elm calls do match.

If the person helping you happens to misread something while attempting to help you, well, people make mistakes. Politeness will invite further help.

...You are also assuming I am RNGing on HG/SS when I mentioned flipping coins to determine if I hit my seed. HINT: there is no coin flipper app in HG/SS.

Please don't even reply to this post. I'm going to wait for someone else who actually reads my posts instead of skimming them and pretends to know what they're talking about. No offense intended.
