Pokemon League with a draft

I didn't find anything like this when I searched, but I'm a little surprised it hasn't been brought up yet.

On a basketball forum that I post on, there is an NBA sim league. If you aren't familiar with those, 1 poster is in control of a team, and they trade players and set the strategies for their team, and then games are simulated, usually 10-20 games at a time, once a week or so. I think there are leagues now where pokeballers battle others in the league every so often, but here's an idea to make it interesting, and different from the others (that I've seen). Every poster has a set team of six (or more) pokemon, and each pokemon can only be on one team. Each player chooses their teams in a serpentine draft, the order randomly decided, Player 1 chooses Pokemon A, P2 chooses PokeB, etc., until everyone has a full team. Teams could have just 6, or even a few more for alternates (The opponent can see your 8 or 9 or so pokemon, but not which six you use, would make things a bit less predictable as to what is on each team and how you'll adjust to what your opponent has.). A small league could just stick to OU with a few BL/UU, while if you got over 20 teams of 6, NU pokemon would have to be used, I think Ubers would give some teams to big of an advantage.

These types of things normally gather a lot of interest, and with all of the interest in good warstories and creative teams, plenty of people not in the league will pay attention to it. Could gather some traffic, and they're a lot of fun for all involved

This sums up why this concept doesn't work; there's not enough pokemon. On top of that, treating two pokemon as equal as two basketball positions is silly, not to mention that it takes more than 6 (random) OU pokemon to make a team. There's not enough diversity for something like this to work.

We had something like this running strong a few months ago. The link to the main topic, which contains information about the structure and details on how to access the IRC channel where these are held, is in my signature. I am no longer in charge of #pokedraft, however, so contact DJXO9 if you want more information.

Because there is at least one official tournament taking place at any given time of the year. The next season will take place in December 2010. After that, it will take place every year starting in December.

Wasn't the WC and SPL running simultaneously this summer?

There are plenty of Pokemon to do this sort of thing. In fact, there's a whole IRC channel with an automated bot that allows this to happen. If you're interested, come visit #pokedraft. Diversity is really what this kind of "mode of play" is about, and there's plenty of it. Come check it out. Its a good time.

Server is SynIRC btw. We also had a tournament a while back and a thread in Stark Mountain.
