The Jets were embarrassing tonight. It's bad enough we talked all that shit during the off season; we need to be able to back it up, and tonight was not a good way to start off the season.

In other words ...

Well, the Jets were playing another great defensive team against the Ravens and they still don't have Santonio Holmes yet, so I expect their offense to improve somewhere along the season. LT looked decent for what it was worth as well. Those penalties definitely didn't help though.

And Chiefs beat the Chargers, very funny imo...I'm mean, the Chiefs? That's almost as bad as losing to the Rams or Lions. Then again, it seems like the Chargers usually start out slow before gaining momentum into the later months, so it's not completely unexpected imo.

Otherwise, plenty of upsets, it'll be fun to see what next week holds.

Here's my predictions, with some upsets!

Minnesota at New Orleans - Favre will be nowhere near his form from last year.
Denver at Jacksonville - Jax is no powerhouse, but I have zero faith in Orton and the Broncos, especially now that Marshall is gone.
Miami at Buffalo - Just for shits and giggles.
Detroit at Chicago - Stafford + Megatron + Best = deadbears
Indianapolis at Houston - As much as I love Houston and their offense, the Colts just own them forever.
Atlanta at Pittsburgh - Yes I know I'm a homer, but Pitt D will shut the Falcons down completely. Decent game from Mendenhall and Dixon should be enough.
Oakland at Tennessee - CJ will run for like 450 yards
Cleveland at Tampa Bay - Who cares? Tampa will suck just a little less than CLE
Carolina at N.Y. Giants - Flashbacks from last season will haunt NY forever
Cincinnati at New England - As much as I loathe the Pats, the Bengals are even more overrated than they are.
San Francisco at Seattle - Hasselbeck needs to retire. Seriously.
Green Bay at Philadelphia - Maybe Philly will finally realize the mistake they made.
Arizona at St. Louis - I BELIEVE IN BRADFORD! (DA sucks so bad lol, just watch)
Dallas at Washington - Fuck Dallas. I predict Portis gets hurt and LJ takes over.
Baltimore at N.Y. Jets - Another overrated team gets exposed here.
San Diego at Kansas City - Upset of the week! McCluster breaks out here.

Eh I went 10-6 in predictions, but I would like to point out how accurate my final two picks (and explanations) were!

also went 10-6 in yahoo pickem, got pitt/seattle/washington/chicago/new york giants/tampa bay wrong

im pretty mad at a lot of those games, i was so close to getting pitt/chicago/tampa/washington games right ;_;

i went 9-7 in my nfl pickem on yahoo.. i didnt post it here but notable correct picks were kansas city, jax washington and houston. lost minnesota v new orleans. no other upset picks were picked by me, unless you consider browns over tb or rams over zona upsets.

as for my jets... solid game defensively, lots of stupid secondary penalties that kept baltimore in the game and eventually led to them passing all over us. offensively, id rather not even speak about that performance. I know it was vs the ravens, but sanchez didnt have too much pressure and just didnt make plays. Nice to see folk/special teams play well, though.

Well LT clearly outperformed him, but that also may just be due to the style of running. Shonn Greene is a bigger, inside kind of runner, whereas LT is quicker and gets to the outside. You just can't run inside on the Ravens, which is why Greene sucked. LT was given some good reads off tackle, so that helped. Still wasn't overwhelmingly impressive though, just more successful than Greene. I feel bad for anyone who drafted Greene thinking he was gonna tear it up. Of course, he'll probably have much more success against other teams with weaker run defenses.

Yeah Shonne Greene is LOL bad at catching the football. He needs to work on that. And he better fucking improve on holding on to the ball and not getting benched.

Oh and forget winning the Super Bowl, if the Jets want to make the playoffs they have to improve on A) Offense as a whole. The Run struggles against Baltimore was understandable, they have a phenomenal front 7 but their Pass Protection has to improve. Also Sanchez has to learn to find the open man downfield and expose the Blitz. B) Penalties. PENALTIES. I can't stress this enough just how fucking pointless they are.

Favorites only win about 67-68% of the time, in other words underdogs should win about 5 games a week with 16 games / about 4 a week with 14 games. The Chargers lost to a punt return, and you are really trying to make a big case out of that? Upsets happen!

(If you take bad team versus good team, <50% versus >50%, then favorites win more like 72%, but in this case we had no clear idea of who is the good or bad team yet)

Yeah, well, that "punt return" already knocked me out of my survival pick 'em league. Fucking Chargers, that looked like the only sure pick of the week.

Okay so people were freaking out about OMG 8 HOME FAVORITES WEEK 1, which I felt was a bit silly, come on people it just happens sometimes. What never, never happens is what happened now - eight 1-0 teams are now away underdogs to eight 0-1 teams. That is fucking insane.

Not sure about this... but aren't you the guy that liked the 49ers *cough*blewoutbyseahawks*cough*.

But yeah the Jets were awful on offense. I mean their defense is still very good but it looked mediocre when it gets penalties every time the crowd can cheer. And dont bring the "Santonio Holmes will make it right" shit in here. He wasn't there last year and their offense could do a lot more than check down every passing play...

As for Chargers... I watched up until Charles ran their first touchdown of the night so no comment.

Honestly I dont think you can judge any of the teams after week 1... Yes, the 49er's blew Sunday but
1. The Seahawks arent as terrible as everyone thinks they are and
2. One bad loss on the road shouldn't sum up the season for a talented 49er team

Also why cant the Santinio Holmes argument be brought in here? As I said earlier, it isnt an excuse for the loss as Raven fans can bring Ed Reed into the discussion but you cant deny that the Jets passing game will be better once Holmes returns.

That's what makes it particularly sad to me. All I can say is, fucking Alex Smith...

Please spare me, you guys had the number 1 defense without Jenkins last year. Jenkins is overrated. Of course this is just me being a butthurt Carolina fan lol

In all seriousness, right now it doesn't matter if the Jets had Andre freaking Johnson, the pass offense wouldn't improve much because Sanchez doesn't let the play develop. Right now Sanchez is a less accurate Leinart (albeit a stronger arm) without the attitude issues. Which is a shame because he can throw the deep ball but he's too tentative.

THANK YOU. Somebody gets it. Sanchez gets scared and tries to dump it off. Not take a shot, not try to buy time.... dump it off.

They also dont let him take many risks.... Last year he had to have a color coordinated play book to know when to take risks and when to play it safe
