Post Hardcore / Screamo / Hardcore / Deathcore / anythingcore / etc.

Not big on SEA, their newest EP is okay but other than that I haven't bothered listening to any of their stuff extensively. (Extensively = More than half of a song)

I got some Hopesfall cause of Deschain but I haven't listened yet.

Speaking of things I've got cause of Deschain, Cursive - The Ugly Organ is stupidly good. But amongst 90% of the bands listed in this thread I don't know just how 'hardcore' it is but I also don't care. It's fucking good.

Fugazi is post-hardcore

That is literally impossible, considering they predated hardcore by at least 5 years, maybe as many as 10.

No Wings to Speak Of is fucking amazing, and The Frailty of Words was damn good.

The Satellite Years was one of the biggest letdowns i've ever experienced, coming off such a strong EP.

I honestly don't see a huge difference between the EP and the LP. I'm trying to think of why you think this... did it get a little spacier? That's all I can think of.

Amen. If you want some amazing screamo, start working your way backward through their discography.

There really is quite a bit of good screamo, you just have to know what you're doing to find it. Sadly, Orchid's the only one that gets any attention whatsoever.

wait what. hardcore has its origins in the late 70s/early 80s and repeater came out in 1990.

i just listened to some of that cursive album. i didn't really like it tbh. i don't know... i just didn't like their sound. do any of you guys listen to dance gavin dance? john mess is an awesome screamer and jonny craig has the greatest voice in the world. downtown battle mountain is probably my favorite album of all time.

jonny craig has the greatest voice in the world.
I can definitely attest to this. I love Jonny Craig. My first exposure to him was when some hipster girlie showed me Isles and Glaciers. Then I started listening to Emarosa a whole lot, but I've never listened to DGD.

I also like Pierce the Veil and while Vic's vocals aren't exactly entry-level (probably why nobody has mentioned them yet lol) I think he's really good at what he does.

And I really don't like to tag differently sounding music as the same genre. At the Drive-In is really really good, but I would hate to lump them in the same vein as screamo or jonnycraigcore.

Ya I like Pierce the Veil too. They're a little generic but
i like them. and PLEASE listen to DGD. i started only listening to emarosa but my friend showed me dgd and i was blown away. listen to this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HqcW4wWhIE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdzyVPF98bo

these two songs basically single-handedly got me into them. but, after dtbm jonny left and kurt (terrible vocalist) joined. but now jonny's back and downtown battle mountain two is in the works. im so hyped for it

I'm sorry but that gavin stuff is terrible. I did listen to a couple Cursive songs though and thought it was pretty decent.

Definitely going to check out some more Fugazi though, holy shit the songs I've listened to by them so far are ridiculously good.

Holy shit, I just looked them up and saw that they formed in 1987. Ever since I started listening to them back in college (about ten years ago) I thought they started in 1980 or 1981.

My opinion on the genre is that it's the music you listen to before you discover real music. Eventually most people grow out of it.

or maybe that's just ~my anecdotal evidence~ but w/e

your anecdotal evidence concurs with my findings. although the bands that i do still listen to, i count among some of the best in the world (thrice, thursday)

I think the reason why I like Emarosa is because there isn't somebody alongside Jonny screaming. That is to say, I didn't like DGD either. Which is weird, I mean I liked This Is Your Way Out.

I forgot to mention that every Fugazi track I listened to was great, but I've never sat down and listened to an entire album. I should probably do that after some studying :c

it's been a while since i listened to the album, so i can't say for sure, but i think the recording quality is better on the EP, and also they had a different vocalist, who i liked better.

and, you know, the songs were better. ;)

and The Ugly Organ is a concept album that really needs to be listened to start to finish, whilst paying attention. looking up a couple tracks on youtube is a horrible way to judge that album.

Idunno Deschain the first one I heard was 'The Recluse' and I mean yeah it's better in the context of the album but it's still damn good on its own.

Never been huge on Emarosa and I haven't heard Dance Gavin Dance in forever. Not my thing though. Isles and Glaciers is better, Idunno. I like the REOS influence in the programming and stuff.

@Monkfish: Thursday's cool I guess, but I'd rather listen to United Nations. I'm just not big on the guys clear vocals. If you had to recommend one album by them which would it be?

jonnycraigcore.

What?

Classifying genres and bands into them is sometimes ridiculous so i'll post bands along the same veins and let everyone else decide where they want them. underoath has always been a favorite of mine. Aaron gillespie was a huge influence on me musically for singing and playing drums. So sick live to. I love SEA but jerry is gone. DCD and AA are both pretty solid. Chiodos was one of the first bands from screamoish music that i really got into.
Protest the hero is a favorite of mine. Granted they are more progressive i still think they have some say in the genres mentioned.
Cursive is way good. Sink to the beat has always been a favorite song of mine, the lyrics in it are so good. It is freaking incredible.

One of my favorite bands right now is Every time I die. There lyrics are smart and i like the southern sound that they have. And they aren't scene like a lot of the other bands.

Fair enough, but the only member of the band who actually didn't change from formation to breakup was the singer. As for recording quality, I find them to be the exact sameHOLY FUCK ITUNES JUST RANDOMLY WENT TO A HOPESFALL SONG OUT OF 7700+ CHOICES

I love when shit like that happens.

Afuckingmen. The way the album flows from one song into the next, you're robbing yourself of the experience by listening to one here and there.

Bold = metal, technically

Idk who SEA and DCD are, but if AA stands for Attack Attack! then my friend you are very confused musically. Dumb scene bands are dumb.

Anyone listen to Gallows? They're pretty sick.

I don't understand why attack attack gets such a bad reputation. I'll agree they aren't amazing but they aren't horrible anyway i look at it. And they perfomed well live.

Also should mention Scary Kids Scaring Kids. I listen the hell out of their selftitled album. One of my favorites. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Yfy2RRgCNY&feature=related

Attack Attack! is legitimately the worst band to "grace" rock music since Nickelback. Whiny singing, screaming, and breakdowns do not make a good band. Some of this should straighten you out. (I'm standing against the wall here, gotta do something, even if it's death metal)

This is a "hardcore" thread, so why not post the ones who had the biggest influence? Introducing Black Flag.
Six Pack
My War

I'm quite shocked that is what you posted to show me how wrong i am. Absolutely horrible. Sounded like a child's compostion. And the vocals were pitiful. I can't stand the low growl for more than about five seconds.

EDIT: the solo is the only thing tolerable.

They're no worse than Attack Attack, hell they're mediocre at best and were just what I was listening to at the time. Coming from someone who can listen to almost anything, at least. Loads more skill though.

We already killed this horse, how about we stop kicking it now in the thread, okay?

Protest the Hero is definitely metal if you're listening to Fortress, but their first couple efforts, mainly 'A Calculated Use of Sound' are pretty hardcore, as well as a bit of Kezia.

For the record I don't much care for Fortress. I saw them live though and they put on a great show. Still, they just... can't follow up on Kezia. So good.

Anyway, I think the main reason everyone thinks Attack Attack is awful is because they are. Their use of auto-tune is atrocious. And I'm not saying that because I dislike Autotune, because I don't. The way they use it is just so fucking obnoxious and other than that they have absolutely nothing going for them. Instrumentally they're no better than every other LOLCRABCORE band and vocally... well yeah. They're just not good. Awful use of a keyboard too. God damn.

As for Gallows. All I know is that misery fucking loves them. :A

sorry but even though SoulBleed isn't even close to being the best death metal band, they are miles and miles better than Attack Attack and that other band you posted.
