attack attack... shitty generic breakdowns, shitty vocals, shitty lyrics, and their keyboard player gets way into it lol

this is some good shit:

god i love suicide silence. their vocalist is amazing. his range is crazy

edit: oh and i listened to that WHOLE cursive album in order... i really don't see what you guys see in them. i didn't really enjoy it

Any love for Minor Threat? :/

How many times have I heard of Minor Threat? Countless.

How many times have I HEARD Minor Threat? None.

What would you recommend?

Also, how is getting into your instruments a problem? I admit Attack Attack's keyboardist is godawful but having enthusiasm is like, a goddamn staple of making hardcore music.

Also Suicide Silence. Gross. 'Range' really isn't hard to get when you're just going WOP WOP GRUNT GRUNT.

Converge is literally the only post-hardcore that ever should have existed., and even that was only great for one album.

i suppose you guys are welcome to like soul bleed. You really can't defend them though. And attack attack really is just fine. But whatever. Everyone's tastes differ.

@ Popemobile what was wrong with the scary kids i linked? Of all the bands to be pretty easy to listen to i think they would be rather up there.

because it's standard whiny core screamo crap that kids listen to before they discover real music
Hmmm i would call it real music. Seeing as it's music. And i listen to all sorts of music. i still find scary kids to be intellectual moving and catchy music. Just because you don't like the music genre doesn't mean it's childish. Sorry you can't experience music since you have some preconceived notion of what "real" music is. I'd say you are the child intentionally limiting yourself because you are so hard.

But whatever. I asked your honest opinion on where they fell short and instead of anything musically related you post nothing. elitism in music just bugs me.

well, since they never released an album (but classic EPs), I'd just get their "Complete Discography" compilation. It contains three of their EPs (Minor Threat/In My Eyes/Out Of Step) and basically everything you need from them.

edit: and why should anyone try proving how awful AA and co. are; listening to them once was enough for me to shut them down completely.. the music just sounds too gimmicky and cheesy

I wanted to post earlier, but fear of being jumped on for not getting the genres exactly right and looking like a poser was too much to bear. oh well. I listen to a lot of alexisonfire (watch out!, self titled and switcheroo), cancer bats (hail destroyer!), cursive, the fall of troy, raging speedhorn (more metal I guess), sikth (again more metallic), dillinger escape plan, at the drive in. I'm in a bit of a rut at the mo, listening to the same stuff over and over.. guess I'll try some of the music suggested here.

alexisonfire and cancer bats and fall of troy are definitely all worth listening to!

@Monkfish: Thursday's cool I guess, but I'd rather listen to United Nations. I'm just not big on the guys clear vocals. If you had to recommend one album by them which would it be?
i really love War All The Time, its a very solid album, pretty sure i love every track!
i also like their more recent stuff, Common Existence and A City By The Light Divided are both good and i havent actually listened to Waiting yet (which im gonna do now!)
mixed feelings about Full Collapse, its a little unpolished imo but songs like paris in flames and wind up are fully worth a listen

this is an opinion that quickly goes away as you open to your mind to music drastically outside your current comfort zone. as you reflect back on most of the stuff you listen to now with a critical eye, you'll see why the criticisms aren't unfounded. i can't really blame you though, everyone goes through this phase at one point.

yeah because i only listen to this genre. I guarantee my musical tastes are far more varied than yours. you guys are so full of yourself.

if your taste is really that varied, and you legitimately find bands like attack attack to be worth your time, then don't expect everyone else to be welcoming when they are clearly more critical of the stuff they listen to.

Contradictory. You can't only listen to one genre and have more varied tastes than people who listen to several. ex. I listen to pretty much every subgenre of metal except Doom, a lot of punk, and various other things (mostly Classical and game music).

Dan Dan, Cancer Bats is incredible, Hail Destroyer is definitely their best but their new one's great too.

EDIT: I might have to get used to Cursive.
@Zoro: Sarcasm doesn't translate well over the Internet.

I'm pretty sure SoD was being sarcastic. On the other hand, his post was still pretty contradictory.

Personally I don't like Attack Attack because I don't feel like there's anything there. It's just a bunch of fuckers who were like 'hey guys lets use autotune in a hardcore band won't that be funy lol'. It's soulless. It's the same reason why Protest the Hero's album Kezia is one of my favourite albums of all time, but Fortress doesn't even grace my iPod. I think fortress is soulless shredding and WoOOOOooOoo Warlords and Goddesses and junk, THAT'S METAL! But you don't have to agree with me.

No-one's saying that you can't listen to Attack Attack, but rather, they don't understand why you would.

Also oh my god Alexisonfire. Their new album is just so boring and slow and awful. (And I don't mean slow like... tempo-wise or anything. It just takes forever to do anything)

But y'know, everything by them that's not that is A-OK.

Also back to Cursive, that album just gets better and better, 'A Gentleman Caller' is like getting punched in the heart. PUNCHED IN THE HEART. But I think The Recluse miiight be my favorite song. It just brings a big stupid grin to my face when I hear it.

And thanks for the rec's guys! I'll go get some Thursday and Minor Threat later.

Oh and I found this band called 'The Chemist Vs. The Computer', their vocalist is like always going falsetto so don't be surprised if you don't like it. But if you can get past that it's pretty solid stuff. Their newest release is called 'Hydrosufoolooween' and the music pretty much sounds just like that, halloween underwater.

Despite the fact that this is completely false, you could listen to Coltrane religiously and it still wouldn't excuse the fact that you like Attack Attack.

Sorry

sarcasm shouldn't be that hard to pick up in a sentence like i used.
@G80 and Popemobile I like attack attack that's all. Not saying you have to. Doesn't mean i'm stuck on the genre or not critical of what i listen to. And you taking that as i'm a child who is going through a musical phase is just evidence of your ridiculous arrogance for your own music tastes. Judging me based on one band just seems incredibly shallow.

Beside that though @Scikcy I really haven't liked Alexisonfire's new stuff either. Crisis was probably their best album IMO. I still liked Fortress a lot. i thought Rody's vocals were waaay better than they were in Kezia.
