Welcome to the seventh Smogon Monthly Art Contest! A competition for both digital and traditional artists to show their stuff and boast their skills.

Well, the Monthly Art Contest almost got closed this week, :O both Bucky and Persistence have had troubles with getting their internet running, and I almost lost all access as well! That being said, this week's theme promises to be really interesting, and challenging to all you artists!

This Month's Theme: Autumn Colors
Theme suggestion by Bucky & wickdaggler

Description: Draw a Pokemon in a Autumn setting. However, you must use a mono-chromatic color scheme, meaning only one color and it's shades and tints.

Plus points for: Epic backgrounds

11-19 entries, top 10 selected
9-10 entries, top 8 selected
8 and under make it straight to the polls.

Deadline

The deadline is November 28th at 1:00pm GMT -4. You have 22 days to get your entry in. After the deadline, judges will pick finalists and a poll will be started over the course of 3 days to decide the winner. [Note: Each MAC will generally last 22 days. Winners will be determined during the last week of each month]

Prizes
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will receive an inclusion in the MAC Hall of Fame (currently a work in progress) and will have their art featured in Alchemator's Art Picks in The Smog!! Consecutive wins will also get you cooler trophies!

Also note that the poll-slot restrictions have been changed.

A few notes:

I suggest using an Autumn color with your color scheme, meaning reds, oranges, yellows, and maybe light browns.
Also I suggest maybe going out to a local forest or something and taking some pictures for inspiration. If you don't have a place like that you can visit, I guess use stock photo or something to find some images for inspiration.

/me slaps Persistence across the head

I'd do this if I had access to something other than MS Paint...and could use colored pencils. :B I'll just lurk like I normally do I s'pose.

Can't wait to see all the entries!

@ Tortferngart, for some reason whenever I looked at your name I always read it Tortenftagger, lol. But anyway, I really love the expression you put on the pokemon in your piece! I'm just a little confused about the foreground :P

Fragrance of Changing Leaves

I am, to your warm breast,
to that time, wishing to return" -Chou Toshio

There is a larger version in my thread for those who want to see it (I originally drew this at 2000 x 1000)

that monochrome restriction is really annoying. But I guess I should learn to read.

would there be a way to make this monochrome? because I'm virtually done.

What do you mean? (BTW, it's Tortferngatr, think "Torterra," "Infernape," "Feraligatr," which happen to be the three starters I used in Gen IV.)

Just to spite fans who insist on the classic Sonic model I would have used Skymin's green eyes, but the monochrome restriction is both a blessing and a curse...

BTW, good job with the nature scene, Chou!

That's so poetic and beautiful...

Also, we're gonna allow a little bit of leg room for the color scheme (by we I mean I) just because the restriction can be a little crazy. Take note though that the challenge centers around conveying your piece without the use of much diversity.

Also wynought if you're in photoshop go to Image > Adjustments > Hue & Saturation for a quick fix, but I suggest doing that then going over the colors manually if you want it to not look "gimmicky". I love the piece, by the way!

@wynaught: There's always sepia tones :D I think they would work pretty well for your picture, it's reeaaally lovely (:

Thanks WD for posting this ^___^ By the way, I forgot to mention that 360Swampert will be subbing in my place for the month. Good luck everyone!!!

@ Chou Toshio: Great job, on the art!! I like it a lot, I have a gut feeling your gonna win another one ;)

So say I wanted to do an autumn scene at night focusing on purples or blues, would that not be in accordance with the theme? I can see how it would make it hard to judge wether it was Autumn or not, but suppose the trees were bear or there were leaves on the ground, would it be ok?

@Tortferngatr, yeah that's what I meant lol. But that's cool, I always wonder how people choose their names.

I has a plan.
1. Red
2. Roserade
3. Trees

4. Do you really need a 4

p.s Maybe bambi 2...

You forgot step five and six
5. ???
6. Profit

:D

Sepia + Hue/saturation.
I'm definitely not bailing on this one.
:D

Edit:
Actually, I think sepia uses hues of 12-26.. Which technically isn't monochrome. However, you can try the black and white then colorize tool on gimp.
I'll post a progress screenie sometime :D
