That was inconsistent in lc. =( miss at the end

Actually it wasn't just the drops. It was a crit. And I still fail to see how a (somewhat poorly played) bidoof killing two pokes before going down to crit proves that it isn't broken. Why doesn't it have leftovers? It's a superior option to even evo stone becuase it lets you set up more subs and stall for more boosts. And yes I realize that log was little cup.

I meant up to the crit, I made a mistake on my team and I was showing how inconsistent is usable in LC.

I was at +2 Atk, +4 Def, +6 Spd, and +3 Evasion (I don't remember the others, but those were the important ones).

Can someone post a log of them beating a good player using a good team with an Inconsistent mon, rather than just trashing random noobs with Typhlosion / Manectric / Shiftry?

The thing is, who needs a good team when you've got one inconsistent 'mon and a good poke to baton pass to (assuming you're using smeargle).

o i c. In all seriousness though, I don't think that Inconsistent is good enough to be banned. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but not that good.

I've also found that Nasty Plot Lucario does a decent job at breaking Inconsistent users with Aura Sphere+Vacuum Wave.

Based off of the last few pages Inconsistent has these counters:
-Mischievous Heart Taunt
-Priority
-Never missing moves
-Haze, Roar
-Unaware
-Other boost negating moves.

Bolded one's don't work. Taunt doesn't stop it from getting it's boosts (in switching to the taunter it has probably gotten a sub and 2 turns to boost), and all non-smeargle inconsistent abusers have attacking moves.

I have no idea why you think priority can do anything to inconsistent abusers.

Unaware gets toxic stalled. Even aromatherapy clefable- toxic has 16 pp, aroma 8.

Stat downs get blocked by substitute.

Underlined counters are unreliable, and can be called checks at best. roar and whirlwind can miss, and only lucario's aura sphere and technician boosted moves (Roserade magical leaf, Scyther aerial ace) are strong enough to do anything. Until octillery gets +6 def/sp def from sub-protect stalling, in which case only np luke can beat it- but it will probably get killed by boosted attacks.

The fact of the matter is that to switch to a check you let it get a sub up, which greatly reduces the effect of almost any check (read: any but breloom).

Although Mischevous Heart does not prevent it from getting boosts it /does/ prevent them from using the stalling methods that accumulate the boosts without fear of being killed in the process (as in, the Inconsistent Pokemon do that so they don't have to fear etc.).

Also, with Unaware Pokemon ignoring boosts, how much damage are Inconsistent Pokemon that invested solely in defenses going to do offensively? All Unaware Pokemon can run offensive sets that will let them break Substitutes (alternatively, they can run Substitute sets themselves to avoid getting stalled out by Toxic). Kokoromori also learns Taunt, so he can avoid the Toxic Stalling and rend two to three moves on the Inconsistent Pokemon useless.

The counters/checks can be considered shaky, but that doesn't stop them from having the possibility of actually being effective.

Tozic kills your chances of winning, and investing enough EVs to outrun the Inconsistent users means Quagsire loses his ability to take attacks easily. Oh, and Octillery uses Energy Ball and kills Quagsire.

No Unaware pokemon are immune to Toxic Spikes though so unless you want to run a poison pokemon and an Unaware pokemon you'll still get toxic stalled.

I suppose that works...
Max sp atk octillery surf vs max/max+ Quagsire: 35% - 41.1%
3hko. nevermind.
Max sp atk octillery surf vs max/max+ clefable: 28.9% - 34.3%
3hko with high enough damage rolls and sandstorm. If no sandstorm, the chance of getting a crit in 16 attacks is 64.4%. Max sp def clefable also doesn't handle physical threats very well, even with unaware.

I run Evolution Stone Bidoof to take out enemy Inconsistent users. But only because it's on my mono-Bidoof team (i.e. not serious). It does do a pretty good job, although it's really specialised.

Bidoof @ Evolution Stone
Trait: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Return
- Rest
- Amnesia
- Curse

Send it in, Amnesia up, and Rest when necessary (also beats Toxic). Curse to +6, and KO (Unaware ignores all their evasiveness boosts). If the opponent has passed Ingrain to Octillery, they're screwed; otherwise, they'll be forced out and lose their boosts. Bidoof to OU!

Disclaimer: not to be used on any serious team.

Stat downs get blocked by substitute.
Maybe the ones you're looking at.
Haze goes through Substitute. Clear Smog's stat drop effect goes through Substitute. The evasion-killer trio goes through substitute (but they're far inferior to Haze and Clear Smog in this situation)

Haze in particular has hella PP. They can Protect and Sub until the cows come home and you'll still be killing their boosts.

You haze, they sub, they lose boosts, but then they get boosts as the turn ends.
They can always start off in a favourable position, just removing their boost doesn't mean anything.

Inconsistent isn't just about the defensive boost evasion gives, but the fact that everything can be boosted.

Inconsistent boosts come in after everything so regardless of if you haze they will be +2 in SOMETHING.

A while back I ran into Reyscarface on the ladder, and he was using a team based around this ability. It got the point where I needed to sweep his ENTIRE team with Terakion, or lose the match. I got an SD, only to be out-sped by his Electric/Flying genie. I predicted the Volt Change, and got a Rock Polish. I thought the match was over, right then and there. Baring a Stone Edge miss, I was in the clear. Then his Octillery comes in and Protects while I try to Close Combat it. It gets +2 Evasion and +2 Special Attack. Thank God, I managed to land the next hit, but if I hadn't, the game would've been over.

As scary as that was, I don't think the ability needs to be banned. It's completely random, and might end up decreasing your Evasion. Rey's team also had Smeargle and some others, and although Smeargle SOMEHOW PROTECTED SEVEN TIMES IN A ROW AND STALLED OUT MY CLOSE COMBAT PP, it never got an evasion boost, and I swept his team. It's completely random, and an ineffective strategy. I honestly feel like it's a gimmick, and should never be relied on.

Possibly something sucky. Assuming they always get a favorable result is as irresponsible as thinking that they always get an unavorable one. If they get an unfavorable boost, you attack. If they get a favorable boost, you Haze.

But I would probably use Clear Smog instead, because it attacks their Sub while clearing the boost.
