2011 Music

EDIT: Also it seems that Kyuss are releasing a new album without Josh Homme under Kyuss Lives!, which should be interesting.
Having heard what Garcia did with Garcia Plays Kyuss I can say that it will probably sound pretty different, without Josh's guitar work the band sounds kind of sloppy, but it will still probably be worth a listen in.

As for things I am definitely waiting for OOMPH! and Foo Fighters are probably the highest on the list. Still hopeful for that Queens Of The Stone Age album, it is going on 4 years now, and there does not seem to be any activity from the Them Crooked Vultures or Sweethead camps, so it does seem somewhat likely. Anything other than these is a complete bonus.

I really gave up on music for this decade. Mostly because the stuff you hear everyday (commercials/flipping through radio stations/etc.) is nothing but crap that only girls 13 and under like. Somehow that gets popular...somehow...
Sure there have been some jewels in the treasure chest of crap but all this new garbage we're forced to hear and see about just made me lose faith on new music.

Heck, even a lot of old bands that I enjoyed listening to ruined their names by releasing new, god awful albums where every song sounds like the one you just heard...so...yeah...

There is a lot of good music throughout just about every year. You have to look for it man. Back on topic, my favorite band is releasing a new album next year. :D

Honestly, I think last decade had some of the best music I've ever heard. In fact, I'm still finding gems from the 2000's that missed the first time around.

Anyway I heard Ulver is supposed to be coming out with something in 2011. Hope it's not like Shadows Of The Sun

for all you dudes who a.) liked black keys this year, b.) liked big boi this year, and especially c.) liked both, heres the brothers of chico dusty, a freaking amazing mash-up you all need to listen to. i suggest you download it before it gets popular enough it gets taken down for copyright shit! in a similar vein heres the notorious xx, which is exactly what it says on the tin, and is exactly as awesome as you think it is. youll have to find another zip/torrent tho because the original got taken down for copyright

MORE IMPORTANTLY, how is james blakes debut, john? and the other 4 of the 5 in the middle? will check out go! team anyway, but how does it compare to previous albums?

also just starting listening to that new gorillaz album and it kind of caught me off guard, even though i knew it was recorded on an ipad and stuff. the first track is basically a boom-bap hip-hop/grime instrumental, and the third track is a folk/country-like acoustic guitar jam with a glitzy ass techno beat dropped on top of it. buhhh

Are you actually looking, or are you just turning on the TV? Because if it's the latter you really shouldn't be talking about the matter.

One of the most exciting things about the new year = new music :D

Looking forward to releases by The Strokes, Gorillaz, Does it Offend You Yeah?, Panda Bear, of course the Radiohead album, Fiona Apple, Daft Punk (come on guys please :( I don't think this is confirmed but I'll cross my fingers until they split up), Fleet Foxes, Explosions in the Sky, Beautiful Small Machines (I think? their EP was cute anyway), and Animal Collective. I don't feel as excited about this year as I did 2010 since I have no Crystal Castles to anticipate :( But the stuff I listed will hopefully be good.

lol Stoo and his what account...

Shadows of the Sun was incredible.

I love Ulver but I really thought Shadows was really slow and boring.

Wait Fleet Foxes are coming out with something? I didn't even notice. Can't wait for that.

EDIT: According to this, not only are Fleet Foxes putting out another album, but so is Portishead, Bon Iver and THE AVALANCHES. The fucking Avalanches. I'm so beyond excited for that.

john you never answered my questions!!

also pretty sure that wasnt directed at me, i havent had a what account for a while..but thats a tragic story not for this thread.

edit: also also i got mf doom's mm..food as a christmas gift and im now convinced hes my favourite rapper/hip-hop artist of all time, thus the avatar channge. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

listened to "Vaudeville Villain" recently and it's a damn great album; MF Doom is arguably the best rapper of the past decade

on another note, I've listened to around 12 albums from 2011 so far and the one that impressed me the most is

Destroyer: Kaputt

definitely check it out if you dig art pop/indie pop with some electronic elements thrown in

oh dude yes..just some of the endlessly quotable lines on mm..food:

"own his own throne, the boss like king koopa/
on the microphone he floss the ring super/
average mcs is like a tv blooper/
mf doom, hes like...db cooper"

"gettin' money while the fbi gettin' no new leads/
it's like he eating watermelon, stay spitting new seeds"

"he went to go laugh and got some head by the side of the road/
she asked him to autograph her derriere, he signed it to "wide load": /
'this yard bird taste like fried toad turd, love, villain'/
he take pride in his code words/
crooked eyed rap nerd geek with a cold heart/
probably still be speaking in rhymes as a old fart"

i love this album so much, one track i swear sounds like hes sampling the music from the casino stage of sonic 1, while he raps about how he doesnt need any friends, just food. guy is absolutely mind-blowing, hilarious, and totally unique. unquestionably my favourite rapper ever.

that James Blake album is just fantastic, so is Destroyer; however, The Decemberists provide the first disappointment of 2011

gonna hold off and buy the james blake album i think, the guy is probably my favourite new artist of this past year and i want to support him :>

whats the direction of the new album? is there anything left of the post-dubstep kind of sound from cmyk or is it more like klavierwerke, with more warped piano and stuff?

you could not be more wrong about that Braids album. It is tops even including stuff from last year. This is what Animal Collective should have been doing.
