Hi, Just wondering if anyone knows whether the Power Item Breeding still works for Passing an IV to a Pokemon.

This is because I have a Perfect IV Ditto that I got off here and it would be easier for me to get Dual if not Triple Flawless Pokemon.

Just wondering thanks.
It still works, lucky for you.

I know that its supposed to be a horrible pokemon, but how does a wigglytuff learn counter?

In its gen 4 analysis, one set has a wigglytuff with counter, but i clicked on it and sure enough, wigglytuffs name was not in the pokemon who can learn counter list

I also looked at serebii and it couldnt learn counter

If it really is a typo, i suggest changing its analysis because a wigglytuff with counter would be illegal

According to bulbapedia,

Wigglytuff learns counter through TM18 in Gen I

Delibird and Wigglytuff both learn it through a move tutor in Firered/Leafgreen/Emerald

I wouldn't think its particularly viable in OU, but maybe on PO's UU ladder. I would think Chansey does everything better. or cresselia.

What is the best ability for porygon-z this generation (in your opinion)?? Also, how much speed would you recommend I give to a modest porygon-z with HP fire?? Should I just go with a simple 252/252/4 (in case I run into another modest HP fire porygon-z lol) or should I go a little lower??

It could stall on theory, but lacking a reliable recovery makes me shaky.
But meh, if you really like the piggy, give it a try, feel free to experiment random stuff on PO. Just beware of random u-turns and taunts.

It's not that I like it, I'm just exploring things that people would never think about. I just ran Evo-Stone MeanSong Mischievous Heart Murkrow, even though people know about that. It works extremely well.

Sorry if this is too vague, but what are some good basic tips for building/playing with a balanced offensive team? Some things I'm looking for in an answer(s) include:

  • Is it better to have offensive mons that can take hits, or defensive mons that can hit hard?
  • What mons are generally good for a balanced offensive team?
  • What are some good offensive/defensive cores I can use as a base line?
  • What's a good basic strategy to keep in mind to make a balanced offensive team around?
  • What kinds and how many mon archetypes (ex. physical sweeper, special wall) is recommended?
If the answer is not simple enough for this thread, can someone direct me to where I might get this kind of advice?

Reposting this since I would still like other people's opinions on the subject, so as to give me better ideas to think about on my own. Pokemon suggestions would be especially appreciated, though I would also happily accept general advice.

1.Download
2.Porygon-Z shouldn't even be running HP Fire in the first place, but that's your call. You won't ever encounter other HP Fire P-Zs, so maybe run enough to outspeed neutral nature base 85s.

Scizor is switching into you EVERY time without it. This also helps deal with nattorei and foretress.

  • Is it better to have offensive mons that can take hits, or defensive mons that can hit hard?
Well, a hard hitting Defensive mon is more advantageous since it can survive longer while dealing exceptional damage, while a defensive Hard hitter hits harder, but for not as long. Nattorei and Hippowdon are examples of hard hitting defenders, while Scizor and Dragonite are somewhat defensive hard hitters (for their natural bulk and typing).
  • What mons are generally good for a balanced offensive team?
Totally depends on what you need. A spinner is always good to use to keep your team healthy. Doryuuzu and Starmie can use it as a filler and as an "expected switch" move, while more defensive spinners include Forretress and Tentacruel. It's also good to have a wall or two, including but not limited to; Skarmory, Blissey, Nattorei, Burungeru, Hippowdon, Gliscor, Porygon 2, Chansey, Dusclops, etc. The rest of your team should consist of either some decent bulky offense, or pure sweepers. The most powerful sweepers at the moment are Urugamosu, Starmie, Gengar, Shanderaa, Sazandora, Cloyster, and Boruturusu (that's only a few, and does not include weather abusers).

  • What are some good offensive/defensive cores I can use as a base line?
Ah! I have been experimenting with this, so here's a nice list.

Defensive
-SkarmBliss
-Skarmory+Evo Stone Chansey
-Nattorei+Burungeru
-Nattorei+Tentacruel
-Desukan+Blissey
-Desukan+Evo Stone Chansey
-Mamanboo+Specially Defensive Skarmory (weird, but quite effective)
-and many more

Offensive
-Shanderaa + Scizor
-Mamoswine+Shanderaa
-Boruturusu+Doryuzuu
-I'm still working on these, actually.

  • What's a good basic strategy to keep in mind to make a balanced offensive team around?
Know about the metagame and how to counter it's most prominent members. You need to make sure to be prepared for whatever your opponent has, but don't overpredict. Whatever you do, don't overpredict. Make sure if he sends out Pokemon A, you know how to deal with it with Pokemon B. Also make sure to be rational. Poor moves can ruin the whole match.

  • What kinds and how many mon archetypes (ex. physical sweeper, special wall) is recommended?
It depends. People usually do either...

-Lead, Physical Sweeper, Special Sweeper, Tank, Physical Wall, Special Wall.

-Anti Lead, Physical Sweeper, Special Sweeper, Physical Tank, Special Tank, choice of wall.

or some variation of the two. You want to have enough defenses to handle hard hitters, but enough hard hitters to leave a mark on the other persons team.

Reshiram and Zekrom have shiny checks.
Do the starters have them too? I feel like breeding for a Shiny Smugleaf really soon.
No. The only other thing I know of that have a shiny check are Wonder Cards. Since starters use the exact same breeding mechanics as everything else, there's no reason for there to be a special check.

A lot of awesome stuff

Thank you very much for the excellent advice, ToastTyrant13, and while I'm at it, I'll thank CTNC again for his advice as well. You've both given me good advice that should allow me to think hard on it myself.

Quick question; do you think it is worth trying to put down Spikes for balanced offense, or would just SR be enough?

Spikes aren't really necessary for most set up sweepers in this meta

I'm getting ready to RNG the shiny Suicune once the event rolls around. I will be training it the way I would a Bold Suicune despite its Relaxed nature. However, I'm having trouble deciding on whether I should get one with HP Fire, for Nattorei/Ferrothorn. My questions is: should a defensive Suicune concern itself with hitting Ferrothorn? I know most Suicune would rather carry HP Electric, for other Waters...

I'm not concerned about the drop in Speed IV for HP Fire since the nature means it won't be tying with any Bold Suicune anyway. So with that in mind, any opinions?

Will this work? And is Bullet Seed powered-up by Technician?
