Chandelure

Lol,I just got a crazy idea that is obviously unviable, but seems it would be epic to set up.

252 HP/252 Def or Sp.def/6 Sp.Attack @ Chesto Berry
-Rest
-Calm Mind
-Nitro Charge
-Flamethrower/Fire Blast/Shadow Ball

No doubt idiotic and stupidly hard to set up,but I just wanna sweep with it and post the epic log here :P

woah, this thing is pretty darn good. Shadow Tag + Choice Scarf = awesome trapper + revenge killer. Sucks it has an SR weakness.

It still has a fuckin good special attack to play with, and Chandelure definitely is gonna be a big poke in this gen.

I hate this thing soooo much D: Even without Shadow Tag, it's giving my team trouble (I play Standard OU, not DW).

It does anywhere from 60-70% on Ulgamoth with an Unboosted Fire Blast, and I think that's a lot, considering Ulgamoth's respectable Special Bulk.

If you're relying on Volcarona to counter Shandy, you're doing it wrong. Most special tanks/walls/bulky waters don't really mind Chandy. If they have a recovery move, they're likely to outstall in the long run. :3 If I remember correctly, even specs fire blast is lol for Chansey, for example.

It can actually set up on it, but it can't just come in like that. Usually you want to be at +1 when it comes in if you want to outstall it unless you're running the bulky set up set. :3

Exactomundo. With enough +Special Def, he can shrug off Chandelure's hits and then deliver a fatal blow!

I see it all the time in DW, but never in standard. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up UU (assuming its DW ability isn't released in the near future).

I've been avoiding it since I have this paranoid mindset where I avoid running more than one pokemon on a team who is weak to Tyranitar (he's like my nightmare pokemon).

He's great, but currently a bit overshadowed by things that are easier to set up with and still get the job done. Also, pursuit is very unkind to him.

As a P-O player, I was experimenting with this guy as a Trick Room user, and it wasn't half bad before it got banned. It takes a nature and IV meddling to get its Speed at a respectively low level, but after that, it's faster than most things. You can invest in defense to give it decent bulk, whilst still sporting a workable Special Attack stat.

Not the greatest, but it does go some way to solving its speed issue.

I don't see this thing dropping to UU anytime soon; that Sp. Attack is just too freakin' deadly, and unlike Rampardos (who dropped to NU despite that Attack stat of terror), it has the other stats to use it. Base 80 Speed makes for a nice Choice Scarfer, even though it is admittedly Pursuit-weak.

Of course, when DW chandeliers become legal, either Chandelure or Shadow Tag will be banned in OU.

Before it got banned? People need to realize that this Pokemon is more than viable without Shadow Tag. A Choice Specs boosted Overheat will demolish everything in its path. Chandelure is not exactly slow either.

Chandelure is kinda slow.
80 Base speed is not fast at all.

He was referring to Fire Blast though. Obviously if you send it in on something like a Choiced Heatran, or something that cannot do much to it, then its gonna leave a big gaping hole in the switch in using its shear power.

There is no reason to assume this.

Switch into Ferrothorn, Sub, CMx6, recover using leftovers slowly over time, refresh Sub, kill Ferro, kill everything else, use Sub to survive Aqua Jet/anything faster than you, victory!

Hey it can happen! I saw it happen ONCE before! 0-6 match! Talk about embarrassing. XD Bottom line I can understand why it should be banned but other times...

Opponent sends out Tyranitar
BK Calls back Chandy
Tyranitar uses Pursuit

....I can see why it has nooooooooo reason to be banned. XD

Actually, I fixed it for him. He wrote Overheat.
Either way, it's too damn slow.

You can if you have any experience with the Shandera-era on PO ladder...and don't give me a pointless objective statement like "PO isn't the same as Smogon" because I'm well aware of what Shandera can trap and how badly he'd ruin the weaker Wifi metagame in comparison to the much stronger DW meta. He already did his damage on DW, so he's tempbanned for testing. With any hope, the higher-ups will keep it that way because it's much better off without him.

If he comes in on a fire move, he'll be fine. This is usually what happens to me:

"A Ferrothorn huh? I'll use HP FIIIIIRE!!!!!"
"Ferrothorn is switched in for Chandy! It's ability made it even bettar cuz of your poor attack choice!!!"
"...hmm well that explains why he sent a Ferrothorn out against my pokemon with a fire move....ugg the only one who can kill it while surviving it's flamethrower is my Water/Ground type but its too slow and Chandy often has energy ball....and its gonna sub if I switch..."

And yeah everything gets annoying.

I wouldn't ever recommend sweeping with one. Although the rare Nitro Charger sometimes does okay.

Well guys I just got an email from my pokemon japanese dream world account with something about Chandelure's prevolution being with the japanese dream world. We might have shadow tag Chandelure soon. Idk I can't read japanese real well.

on dw it's never caused me a problem, a 252/252 sabeleye can take an overheat suprisingly then stall it out. and of course tyranitar. it's really good but definately shouldnt be up for banning yet.

T-tar gets 2HKo'd by HP Fighting...lets also not forget that you can't switch anything in.

Aaaannd Shadow Ball > Overheat against Sableye.
Like you said, he's bulky enough.

even with shadowball chances are you can toxic stall him out (10% chance of spd drop right?) and tyranitar's only useful as a revenge killer. you can't switch him in anyway so the 2hko is irrelevant
