Most Underrated Pokémon of Generation 5

Not to mention that a random Hail on your team can be a great full-stop to non-Hail teams, even if you're not running weather yourself. I love throwing Hail on something like Tentacruel, Swampert, Suicune, or Vaporeon to neuter things like Excadrill, Landlos, Tyranitar's stupid SpD stat, Rain Dish, and Hurricane users.

True story.

I've been playing around with a hail team and so many people assume they're home free to do what they want once Abomasnow goes down.
I've actually let Aboma go down so my opponent would be less careful with their T-tar and then, even through the internet, I could feel their despair at: "Suicune uses Hail"

Also, I think the most underrated pokemon so far is Mandibuzz (the new vulture aka barujina iirc).
Last night on the Ubers ladder a Mandibuzz survived an Aura Sphere from my +3 LO timid Mewtwo with something like 19%.

I think a lot of people are underestimating Mew. With it's sheer unpredictability, it can be a baton passer, a great support pokemon with Will-0-Wisp, Taunt and Recover, or could even sweep with Nasty Plot or Calm Mind and great coverage.

Virizion!!
This thing is completely outshined by tekkrion that people forget its best ability...To switch into ANY bulky water and set up from there..And it can run different sets than tekkrion's ONLY physical attacks...Screen support, SD sweeper, Bulky Calm Mind, CM sweeper...so far I like it better than Tekkrian because of all the fighting and water priorities going around instead of ice shard...so there are more checks for tekkrion than Virizion..underrated for sure :/

I don't think Virizion is underrated - it is well-known as an excellent check to weather teams in general (with only slight issues against the fire-type attackers on sun teams). And Virizion's lower attack stats mean that it is checked more easily than Terakion, actually. I'd much rather come across it than its rock-typed cousin.

I've already declared virizion as my choice for most underrated (yes I know that it isn't all that underrated but it is still underrated nonetheless), but i'm going to go ahead and mention rotom. Not appliance rotom, just plain old rotom.

With three immunities and STAB volt change, this little guy is an extremely effective defensive pivot. Immunites to ground and fighting are amazing for this metagame, and they also synergize perfectly with steel types (notably heatran). It is fast enough to outspeed almost anything with a choice scarf equipped. As an added benefit, you can trick your choice scarf onto any ground types or burn them with WoW.

On top of that, it can spin block, outspeed (with a scarf) and OHKO Starmie, resist Scizor's entire movepool and wreck it with WoW, and outspeed +1 gyarados for a surprise ohko.

Underrated- definitely Archeos. I run a scarf set and as long as he doesn't have rocks hindering his switching capability he's the more powerful version of Flygon. My set:

Archeos @ Choice Scarf
Adamant (The extra speed isn't all that helpful)
Weak-Kneed
252 Atk/252 Spe/4 Def (With the DEF instead of HP, he takes two rock hits before weak kneed sets in.)
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake
-U-turn
-Coverage Move of Choice (I run shadow claw)

i have been using crustle (iwaperasu) as a lead for some time now, and he really can do a lot for my team. i've had him actually sweep 3 right at the beginning once, but that is not his true aim.

he has a pretty cool typing, and access to both stealth rock and spikes. my only regret is that he does not have rapid spin, like forry or ferro.

but, here's the set i've been using as a lead.

crustle @ mental herb
adamant
sturdy
196 HP/252 ATK/62 SPE
-Stealth Rock
-Spikes
-Rock Blast
-X Scissor

so, this thing has a lot of value in his ability alone. sturdy allows you to get at least 1 hazard no matter what, and then mental herb nets you two if they taunt. on top of that, he has decent STAB attacks and an attack stat of 317 with these EVs. Adamant is also used to make him pack more of a punch, and you can actually switch him out of the lead and use him later if need be. always be on the lookout for ice beams, as they are the bane of him.

i experimented with aerial ace over x scissor just to see, but it really didn't do much for me. i mention this because i had a hitmontop lead in 4th gen that ran aa and would quite often be my fighting type killer.

I just hate how he's near completely useless once his ability sets in :/
So disappointing.

Barujiina (apparently Mandibuzz is the English name) is the most effective 5th gen pokemon I have ever used. It's a huge pain to take down on its own due to Dustproof, Roost and defense on par with skarmory and special defense of half a blissey. I used it on stall team to great success.

Barujiina @Leftovers
172hp/212def/124 sp.def
-Roost
-Toxic
-Fly
-Whirlwind/Mean Look

Roost is an obvious choice. Toxic is a nice addition for any kind of wall, since it doesn't have too much offensive power. Fly is kind of an odd choice, but it works amazingly well. Not only is it great synergy with Toxic, allowing for maximum damage, it also keeps a number of offensive threats from rampaging through with their frail defense intact. It can hit Blaziken for a 2HKO, hit Breloom for 1HKO, any other fighting types and and the STAB + 90 base power is not too shabby when combined with toxic. The last slot adds a lot of versatility to Barujiina. Mean look is great for trapping walls and proceed to kill it with the toxic fly combo, or it can be used to take out offensive threats that Barujiina can handle. Whirlwind is a great life saver in case anything pulls off a sword dance or stat boost, just whirlwind it away while barujiina will most likely survive, barely (at least in my experiences with it, I've always managed to use him as a last ditch saver and then somehow heal it back to good health later). Knock off is also a great option for the last slot.

I've had a ton of fun with this bird and I hope you'll try it out as well.

(anything) used toxic!

:D

You really shouldn't mention the 2hko on Blaziken ha ha. By the time Fly kicks in and attacks the Blaziken would probably use Protect.

Even without Protect, it's a bad idea.

Turn n
Blaziken used Swords Dance!
Mandibuzz flew up high!

Turn n+1
Blaziken used Swords Dance!
Mandibuzz used Fly!

Turn n+2
Blaziken used any attacking move!
Mandibuzz fainted!
Cue sweep at +4/+3.

I'm sure it's been mentioned a couple times but you're all (BAN ME PLEASE)s so it's alright
pokemon doesn't need an s
like fish

there were many fish.
i ate that fish.

there were many pokemon.
i ate that pokemon.

That's because underrated has implications of not being as horrible as you think. Tsunbear is just as horrible as we think.
