Pokémon Black/White in-game discussion

Well I'm still training my polar bear cub to be up to speed, though it is pretty tempting to use this uber rare (1% encounter rate apparently in all times except winter, which becomes a still low 5%) Cryogonal...shame his nature is Jolly though, otherwise I might have used it lol.

yeah i know, im just surprised GF didn't give us the option to either catch it at the point.. or kill it and have it reappear later... without having to fill your boxes, etc. like older gens.

Was anyone else impressed by the story in these games? It may just be the new-game high talking, but I think B/W have the best writing out of any Pokemon game to date. It still shares a lot of weaknesses with Japanese media aimed at kids - I.E, overblown scenarios, overstated theme, etc. But still, I couldn't help but feel a little emotional at the end there. In general, there were more weighty ideas than have ever show up in the series. Bianca being held back by her overbearing Dad, the ethics of capturing and battling Pokemon (although the ambiguity of this was kind of ruined at the end). I was surprisingly moved.

I agree.

If I have one complaint about this game, it would have to be the way that they present obstacles.

"Oh boy, time to enter this gym!"

*Gym Leader runs out*

"Lol time to save the world you can come if you'd like.*

I much preferred it in R/B/Y, where you needed ITEMS to proceed FOR YOUR OWN INTEREST on your OWN, PERSONAL QUEST to become a Pokemon Master. Things were much more fun when you were a selfish twerp.

I am loving this game soo much it's unbelievable. The story line is good something new apart from stealing pokemon (not saying that was bad), and some of the pokes are just brilliant especially scraggy just a monster.

Btw has anyone witness the new mechanics 'critical catch', if so how do you do it? It would be brilliant to know how to catch any pokemon without fail

I agree, i feel like im just being pulled along by other people.. and having to do all these tasks for people, rather than doing my journey.. accomplishing my own things.. and being babied as well. guys.. come on.. i've been doing this for years.

Gotta give them some credit though. They have to baby it a little for people who are restarting their pokemon journey again and for the little kids. :P

Bah, back when I was a mere 8 years old, I played Final Fantasy 1 on the NES, and BEAT it.

Kids these days have it too easy.

Game has been very fun thus far.

Currently:

Serperior lvl 55 timid nature
Kojondo lvl 60 jolly nature
Darumantain lvl 55 adamant
chandelure lvl 56 timid

I also lol @ the game not taking advantage of utilizing the DD's

I was wondering about this as well.

Has anyone noticed anything like this? If so, what made it different from an average catch? Some sort of special animation?

Supposedly, the Poke Ball makes a slightly different "whoosh" sound when thrown, and only shakes once before locking the Pokemon in. Can anyone confirm?

I can confirm this as true. I've had it happen on not only random Pokemon, but on Victini and Zekrom using a 1x catchrate Poke Ball.

Alright, I've determined my team!

Serperior
Darumaka
Krookodile
Swana
Carracosta
Galvantula

Only the first 4 are definite however, I might just ditch the last 2 if I don't feel like raising 6.

Also, what are some tips about Reshiram? Should I even bother with it, or should I just forget about catching it until 3rd version?

Does anyone know what the hieroglyphs in the Abyssal Ruins say? I also notice they used the exact same font in the Japanese version of the game.

What does everyone else think is the most annoying mon to go up against? Myself, every time I saw the words "The opponent ____ is about to send out Sigilyph!" I braced myself. God, nothing kills that thing. Not even my Acrobatics Archeos could OHKO it. >_<

Early on, Woobat. Mid-way, Herdier. Late-game, Zebstrika.

I suggest later if you want to progress in the game or want one with a good nature + 2 or more Perfect IVs. (for me both)

P.S. I got a SHINY Patrat because filling all my boxes. It sucks but it's awesome :D

Well, it's not like I use Legendaries anyway. I don't even know why I bother catching good Ubers, as they sit in my box all day. I'll just catch Reshi regularly, and wait till Grey to catch a good one (and Zekrom)

Er...you need your entire PC filled up before you battle it in N's Castle to make it appear in Dragonspiral Tower. Or else you MUST capture it in N's Castle.
Going to have to ask this in the SASQ thread but if you don't have any pokeballs to catch the title Legends with, what happens then? Surely they wouldn't stick you into a "un-winnable" situation just because you lack any balls to catch the damn thing.

A Team Plasma member will give you a free Ultra Ball should you ever run out of them.

So, dumb question, but you can just outright kill the legendary right? Not that I'm actually gonna do it, but just curious if it's an option or if it's literally a forced capture.

You can KO it, but it will instantly respawn. You cannot advance the story without capturing it, or completely filling your PC boxes and party with Pokemon.

i have a feeling im going to replay my game after im done. there's no way it can only be played once.

shame all the quality pokemon and great natures will be wasted.

Yup this was definitely the best story line out of all the Pokemon games. There were many factors such as... the bad guys had a realistic goal (they were like....PETA-Nazis), the gym leaders were apart of the adventure and were actually important and not just pointless people with no backstory, and your rivals actually had some interesting things happening with them. There was just a lot more effort put into the narrative this time around. Can't wait to see the story in the next games.

And not to mention it's better than the DPPt series story by a long shot.

Although the HGSS saga has a special place in my heart.

I wouldn't necessarily say the bad guys were more realistic...they struck me as a "less evil" team rocket in ways (oh, we'll steal your Pokemon still, but we then set them free instead of selling them off)...I dunno, that part just strikes me as impractical (more like I'll beat the shit out of you physically if you come near my pokeballs kinda thing). That aside though, the rest of it was good, as it did have more interaction with the gym leaders (though I disliked how they forced you to go on a plasma-related sidequest for most of them), but overall I must say this is the most fun I've had since the original GSC games, kinda like a "back to basics" sorta story instead of the whole "save the world" scenario that was around with RSE and DPPt.
