Espeon (Analysis)

I'm only mentioning it in counters because of the possibility, and as such switching Ttars must be wary of it, especially if the Espeon hasn't proved it's MM yet.

Also I'll need more sources before I can do anything about Baton Pass.

All right. So basically I'm thinking i'm going to make this

Dual Screens (MM)
Calm Mind Attacker (MM)

Does anybody think that its worth throwing in some non-MM sets?

Finished up Dual Screens, just need to add teammates and counters and this will be close to finished.

Unless I realize that the Choice set i'm testing really is viable after all! Despite the fact that its really mediocre!

The Hidden Power choice is dependent on what you wish to hit: Ground and Fire have similar coverage but Ground hits Rock- and Fire- typed Pokemon, whereas Fire can be used for taking out Scizor and Nattorei.

Rock does not resist Psychic.

Fire does not resist Psychic.

Tyranitar and Heatran do.

Still, I think Hp Fighting's better, right? Balloontran and all...

You might want to mention an alternative ev spread for the Dual Screens set like this: 252 HP / 60 Def / 192 Spe. I believe this outspeeds Jolly Garchomp so you can get in a screen before it kills you or something.

HP Fighting completely slipped my mind, apologies. Added.

Mentioned, thank you.

You definitely need to be beating Base 108 Speed Pokes (Infernape, Terrakion, Virizion) with the Dual Screen set, which requires 240 EVs and a Timid nature. The extra 16 EVs for Defense are pretty useless, so I'd like to see you just max out Espeon's Speed, as this can be useful to have a chance to Psychic Gengar or get a Light Screen up before Lati@s attacks you. Looks good other than that. If you get any information on DW moves though be sure to update your analysis, since I'm definitely not the guy to ask about that kind of stuff!

QC Approved 1/3

I love this guy to death since he complements offensive teams so well. However, with the recent realization to the unavailability of Baton Pass, how will he get pass Pursuit users? I recently added HP Fighting instead of HP Fire but found that you'll have to predict perfectly to get T-tar as the standard EV spread does not OHKO. Moreover, it makes Espy unable to take on Nattorei head on, even with a reflect up unlike HP Fire. I like to harass/kill the enemy status/hazard user before switching out so as to not risk the opponent getting smart and using status/hazard the turn I switch out. Anyone want to fathom some damage calculations against T-tar pursuit?

Oh another note, on the dual screen set, has any consideration been given to more defensive EVs instead of Speed EVs. It will make you unable to set up screens against faster pokemon, but it will allow you to switch in more times in a match. Moreover, since most hazard and status users are walls with low speed but high attack, I think Defensive EVs will give you a higher margin of error in case you switch into an attack.

Finally, has Wish/Protect been considered? It's really a shame Espy doesn't get Recover (I mean, come on!) and with rain still common, morning sun is very unreliable. Wish then is the best recovery option he has. With max HP, he can even pass off some decent wishes when he switches.

I've used an Expert Belt 4 Attacks set that was pretty good. Moves were Psycho Shock / HP Fire / Shadow Ball / Grass Knot, with 252 Spd/252 SAtk Timid.

The nice thing about it is that you can use HP Fire and Grass Knot on the same set, so you hit both Nattorei and Tyranitar for good damage (not a OHKO on either, though). I've always taken a pretty suicidal approach with Espeon; as long as it leaves the opponent's hazard setupper crippled, I feel it has done its job. Thus, I abuse the ability to switch moves with the Expert Belt to attack whatever the hell switches in.

It gets surprisingly good coverage too, so you'll mostly score super effective hits, meaning the power drop from Life Orb is very small, while you don't get any recoil damage. You can also bluff a Choice set and do all sorts of crazy shit.

For example: on Team Preview, you see the opponent has Nattorei and Tyranitar. You switch Espeon on Nattorei's Spikes and HP Fire it for heavy damage, while it Gyro Balls your face back for heavy damage as well. Next turn, you use Grass Knot to hit Tyranitar on the switch in. Most Tyranitar are 2HKOed by this (they need a ton of SDef EVs to escape the 2HKO), meaning they'll probably will switch out and then you can use any other move to hit whatever you think is coming in (maybe shadow ball for Lati@s?). Or just Grass Knot again to try and KO Tyranitar. Even though Espeon leaves at very low HP or possibly KOed, you've crippled the foe's Nattorei and Tyranitar, possibly even another Poké. It's quite a good trade imo.

The expert belt sounds interesting. Problem is, you can't be expecting to switch into spikes all the time; most good players play mind games with Espeon. With some defensive EVs, you can make a few mistakes and still be OK.

Expert belt added to OC, too weak for it's own set. Thanks for the check iconic, your changes have been implemented.

I think Espeon needs a defensive set. Light Clay gets worn down far too easily; you are taking 1-2 attacks while you set up screens, Stealth Rock, and possibly Sandstorm. Not to mention if they get cheeky and decide to Power Whip you or whatever when you try to come in to prevent hazards. I'd use Wish / Psycho Shock | Psychic / Protect / Hidden Power Fire with max HP and Speed and Leftovers.

make the changes and this is approved.

Morning Sun should be mentioned in OC (if Drought Ninetales has been release, which I don't even know....). Since it can't heal as much with Wish, Espeon can forgo the team scope and heal itself instead.

thanks aerodactyl legend. yes, just make it psychic move of choice / morning sun / hp fighting / toxic. HP Fighting is because Tyranitar really cramps your style with it.

Approved.

I can't wait until Magic Mirror Espeon can use Baton Pass.

Ononokusu should be replaced by Haxorus

and

Nattorei should be Ferrothorn

and

Roobushin should be Conkledur

and

Sazandora should be Hydregion

and you missed one Volcanora mention as Ulguwhatever.

I'm liking this gen for Espeon. After reading this I tested a Dual Screen Espeon. Never having used Dual Screens before, I was very impressed. It saved my Gliscor and Gorbyss Shell Break Passer! I can't remember if you mentioned it, but the Dual Screen Espeon is a perfect partner for Shell Break passers and Cloyster.

No. Espeon can legally be male. It evolves if happiness is maxed in the daytime, not if it's female.
Wish is an egg move on Espeon while all released Magic Mirror Espeon are male so it is legally impossible to have a Magic Mirror Espeon with Wish.
