5th Gen PRNG Help / Info - Latest: RNG Reporter 9.96.5, PPRNG 1.15.0

I think I've done something wrong. Because now my Cobalion is getting different IV spreads. I know it was working last night, and I have counted the steps thoroughly to make sure I was advancing the frame properly. I saved like tice in front of it (I can't remember why) but could this have done something to affect it?

Should I go out of the cave and save, then head back in?

are you positive it's right? if the listed second is a few after when you hit A, then it's probably right. if it's way off(you hit A at 10 seconds into the minute, but the listed seed is at 55 seconds) then it might be a false positive.

also, you probably want to recalibrate after every firmware update. for example, on mine i had to check the "soft reset" box and use 86 as my gxstat with the last firmware update, but now i leave the soft-reset box unchecked and set gxstat to 86. it can vary widely, so you should check on every update.

Your right it was a false positive.... back to the lab.

Another question: Is the PID-Frame advancement not reliably possible in Kyurem's cave? It seems like the shacking spots appear every time at a different place >_>

Yeah, when I went in the house, I was dead-set on getting what I came for. Even if it'd take a week (it really only took three days), I wasn't leaving until I got it.

Unfortunately, I can't help much more with explaining the PIDRNG.

The first time I abused a roamer, it was more of a 'just to see if I could' thing. I had very consistent results, and as such was able to get my desired Nature pretty quickly, and even catch Thundurus in a good-looking ball. I didn't think to search for what PID Frame I started on, which was an awful mistake, but eh. All I remember was Bashful, Timid. Yeah.
Later when I went for Tornadus on Black, I couldn't get a good reading on my starting PID at all. I narrowed it down to about two Natures, but that doesn't help much.

(Not sure if it'll help anyone, but I didn't mash because it always got me wild results. I would watch the corner of the screen for the arrow and press 'a' when I saw it. Relies more on reflexes than mashing, but it was way more consistent for me.)

Basically you have to mash, or find some consistent way to get through the conversation, in order to get good results. It's mostly blind luck, really.

I remember hearing about someone else that found their starting PID, it was in the 400s, I believe. I would think it'd be in the 400s-600s if you're trying to find it.

Once it flies away, that's it. IVs, Nature, and Shininess are set.

Needless to say roamers are a complete pain... when I get around to playing White over, I'll dedicate myself to figuring these things out.

This was actually a good post. So basically it's a crapshoot? I suppose trial and error could work. I just have to make sure I have the patience for it.

Unless you can manage to mash consistently. If you can manage to get consistent results, it's pretty easy to get whatever Nature you want.
Otherwise, yeah. Trial and error, plus lots of patience. It could take a while before you get what you want.

You're advancing for the IV frame, right? It should be possible.
The spots show up in the same spot as long as you hit the same Timer0 and move the exact same way.
If you're trying for the PID frame, you shouldn't use steps and turns to advance, use a Chatot and/or saving.

so im working on getting a shiny wild pokemon.

on time finder, its on frame 76, and on PID its on 119.

so what do i really have to do to get the result i want? i stood in the grass after my set time, and chattered 119 times, then sweet scented.. but im assuming i forgot something? because not only did i not get the right pokemon, but not right ivs, nature, anything.

Exactly, I did it like I always did for stationary Pokemon.. same steps and same turns to advance the IV frame and, if necessary, advance the PID frame with chatot. I hit timer0 several times now and did the same steps, but the nature is always different (as is the playce of the shaking spots).

You really need to go back to step one on this and read up on IV frame advancements and determining starting PIDs, as well as seed verification. Kaphotics' guide at the top of post three in this thread explains it all very well.

I'm not sure what is causing this for you. The only problem I had with Kyurem was missing my timer0 a couple times. Nothing in his cave is different than any other cave and I hit my shiny spread after just a couple tries.

Edit: XxdragontamerxX, this isn't the thread for that. Take it to the SQSA thread. And don't repeat your request twice within ten minutes, it will probably make them less likely to help you.

Can I still use the same seed that I did last night today? Because I have been, and I keep getting bad results for Cobalion. Could it be I'm miss counting steps?

I don't know what you mean here. The only time that matters is what you set your DS clock to.

That's odd... what's the frame for your spread? Perhaps try one where you don't have to move much?

Whoa, frame 76 is way too high. Try going for something on frame 1. It's a very good frame to start on.

But did you walk as well? Or were you searching for a frame of 1, so you don't have to advance the IV frame by walking? Because I'm looking for a perfect IVd Kyurem with shiny status.. I searched the whole day for this specific seed^^

sure it's high, but if its the only frame that gives me the IVs i want, i have to go with it. i think all i need to do is understand how to advance 2 set of frames in 1 go. so i can get the shiny/spread/pokemon i want.

I had to walk to advance my IV frame, and then I did all my PID advancements with Chatot after determining my starting PID.

... You can't hit PID 119 after 75 advances. You'll have overshot your shiny frame by more than a lot.

What Pokemon are you trying to get? I suppose you could advance your IV frame in an area without Pokemon, then go to that area.

Omg wtf :S Could the bicycle be the cause? Normally I don't use it, but this time I did to save some time...

Edit: This would explain a lot of things! When I tried to capture shiny golurk, I did it outside the tower, because my PID was too low for so many steps. And there I had the exact same problem with some random PIDs..

Sure you can. As long as he does his IV advancements somewhere where there aren't any wandering NPCs or wild Pokemon. Just run outside the grass while you advance.

okay here you go, another seed i went for.

So about the whole steps advance the PIDRNG in areas with wild Pokemon, it only does so if you're in the grass? Well, I've misunderstood that for a good while... huh.
