That was definitely a dirty play and deserves a lengthy suspension for sure, but what irks me even more is this:

Agreed 100%, and this is coming from a Habs fan no less. Yeah, I'm still annoyed Chara didn't get at least one game for the hit on Pacioretty, but I would never wish something like that on anyone. It's sad to see that people actually are willing to go that far, and I apologize on the behalf of Habs fans that aren't retarded. Here's hoping that Horton makes a full recovery (and despite it never scores an OT goal against Montreal again, argh), and that Rome misses the rest of these playoffs (and possibly more) like he deserves to.

You keep on calling the Canucks the "dirtiest champions" which features a bite, and and one dirty, and two questionable hits in the playoffs. I don't get it.

It does seem a bit wild to call them the dirtiest champions but both Burrows and Rome should be (should have been) suspended. It is up to the league to react properly.

I really don't expect much change with Shanahan in that regard next year.

Man, when i turned the TV off, it was 2-0 and i was seeing the finest hockey out of the Bruins... My Goodness, never imagined an 8-1 taking out the trash victory. Frankly, IMO, the Cansucks are done. Bs have a rallying cry now AND a very deflating victory to start the rally with. Leaky Louise is definitely gonna be hurt by that 8 spot on him. If Rome is gone for the rest of the series (like he should be) then their defensive corps will be hurt yet again...

I don't care about "counting frames" or "time limits" or shit like that. HE PASSED THE PUCK TO ANOTHER PLAYER TEN FEET AWAY. That's fucking dirty as hell, way worse than anything Scott Stevens ever did, because at least he (mostly) hit players who still had the puck. He should be gone AT LEAST the rest of the Finals, if not more.

I don't think so.

You should look for the Stevens hit on Lindros again that pretty much ruined his career.

The Rome hit is roughly the same hit that was delivered on Lindros, a high shoulder hit aimed delibarately on the head from the blindside, with nasty intentions. The only difference is that it wasn't in that case interference, as Lindros was handling the puck.

It is seriously one of the worse looking hits the NHL has ever seen.
 
I'm not sure I follow how one player handling the puck and the other not handling the puck doesn't make the play where the player doesn't have the puck dirtier -- at least Lindros should have have been expecting some sort of hit, since he was a legal target as the puckcarrier.

I'm wondering if you actually watched the first two goals and why on EARTH would you turn it off then. 4-0, sure, but I'm seriously calling bullshit here. You either are clueless about how hockey operates, or you didn't watch the game.

The first goal they scored because Edler broke his stick. It's very hard to defend someon or block shots when you lack a stick. Had Edler not had his stick broken by sheer luck, it would've been a standard break out by the Canucks after winning the face off.

The second goal was for the love of God, a deflection off Kesler's stick as he was trying to block the goal.

How the fuck can you say the B's absolutely dominated them at that point, when those two goals had almost nothing to do with the B's then? After that, the Bruins got confident, Canucks broke down, and got emotionally frustrated, which happens and the Bruins took advantage of that. Before that though, the 1st was a good hard hitting game (except for that really shitty hit by Rome) with both teams even.

This just proves you know fuck all and you're talking out of your ass. Stop drinking that kool aid, and watch the fucking games. Please.

As for the Rome hit, very dirty, and he's out for the remainder of the Finals (I think it should have been a little bit more), but as for comparing to Scott Stevens, reminds me of his hit on Paul Kariya (barring the difference in injuries). Kariya passed it off, and Stevens comes up on him on an identical hit. There's a slight difference in time, with Stevens coming earlier than Rome (admittedly a huge factor), but almost the same.

And finally, with all the media exposure on Rome, why has no one talked about Ryder's hit on Blair Jones? Jones didn't even touch the puck (or have any time previously) and Ryder comes up and hits in the head. Almost identical. I am not defending Rome, but this double standard has got to stop.

I wouldnt complain of luck when the Canucks beat the Sharks in game 5 because they got all the breaks you could possibly think of.

I still dont know how the Canucks lose 8-1 despite getting 15 minutes of PP time.

Whoever wins Game 4 will probably win the series.
 
Rome suspended for 4 games. Will carry over to next season if the finals don't go to four games. Good riddance...
 
7uongo had his one breakdown game but will probably rebound for the next one.

Tim Thomas's "GET THE FUCK OUT MY CREASE" move on Sedin was awesome.

Note that I didn't complain about it. Canucks played a terrible 2nd and 3rd, and deserved the loss in every way. However, J-man's incoherent rant about "Canucks are done" "I TURNED IT OFF AFTER 2-0" screams bullshit, and I was merely calling him out for that.

Sigh, the NHL is so contradictory sometimes. Chara got nothing for lateness + injury, and now suddenly lateness + injury results in 4 SCF games? Like I said, I still agree that Rome deserves every bit of his suspension, but the reasoning given seems ridiculous given past incidents. I dunno, maybe my Montreal bias is creeping in but I don't see how Chara got no suspension using the same logic (admittedly a new guy is in charge that isn't the father of a Bruin so...)

Yeah, I didn't know much about Thomas as a person until this series, but he's great. Really down to earth, and a hell of a goalie.

A friend of mine (a Bruins fan) had a comment about Thomas' style a few years ago that I thought was funny. "I can't figure out if he's the best bad goalie or the worst good goalie".

It's obvious the NHL is attempting to make up for its lack of suspension on Burrows for the bite, and also to send a message to both teams: Calm the fuck down with the nasty stuff. Rome is a depth player, and not a huge one for the Canucks. Making an example out of him is one way of telling the players to cool it, because by the way this is going, the NHL is going to start losing ratings (not that it hasn't already), because of the gooning.

According to Murphy, the next person to mock with their finger will get 2 minutes + 10 minute misconduct.

You don't follow.

-Because both were hits from the player's blind side. While you can expect a hit, it is hard to expect one you never see coming. But let's blame the player that got hit instead, if he had the puck, he just had to expect it, right? Similarly, when a player with the puck gets nailed from the back smack on his own player bench, it matters little if he had the puck or not. It would be a dirty hit, not any less than if the player was 10 feet away from the rubber thing. At the end of the day, puck or no puck, you'll need facial reconstruction and someone will get suspended.

-Because both hits were deliberately aiming the player's head with a high shoulder with intentions to cause as most damage as possible. There is no doubt Stevens was looking to injure on that play.This is the worst kind of behavior and you cannot relativise its gravity because there was no interference. Had Lindros shot the puck a second before, he would have received the same check from a player he probably wouldnt have had time to defend against. One second appears to be pretty much the only difference between the hit on Lindros and the one Nathan received.

Now I don't know this Rome guy and if that's his usual style of play but Stevens has a history of hits like that. At the very least the NHL is a lot less tolerant than it used to be on such hits... that Stevens hit used to make NHL highlights for fucks sake. Today, it probably would be an immediate suspension. There is still a lot of room for improvement, but it isn't as bad as it used to be.

But sure there was an added interference call possible on that play last night and because of that you ''don't follow'' how the hits are similar. Well then just don't follow.
 
I pretty much agree with Vince on this one. There is no place in the NHL for dangerous hits like that. A low hit with the shoulder or a hip check is perfectly reasonable. The whole purpose of hitting is to separate the player from the puck. There needs to be some level of respect in the game. It sorta goes back to that one saying "Treat others the way you wish to be treated." If you don't want to get checked into the boards or shouldered in the face, don't do it to other people. Those are extremely dangerous plays that can end careers. Obviously there should be a little bit of pain from a clean hit and that is fine. Players should suffer the consequences of not paying attention and it gives you an advantage when you can rattle a player with a good clean hit. It just seems like players are getting a lot stronger and bigger and the head shots are becoming all the more dangerous along with it. Is it going to take career ending injuries to Crosby, Ovechkin and Stamkos before this gets taken care of or what?

Launching off the ice and leading your shoulder into somebody's head is a 100% disrespectful move regardless of whether the player has the puck or not.
