C gear RNG: So I managed to C-gear abuse IVs for stationary and gift Pokémon using the RNG reporter, selecting 'Gift Pokémon' or 'Stationary Pokémon' respectively under Encounter type. I was told I can do the same for eggs but there is no such option under Encounter type other than "Larvesta egg". Does 'Larvesta Egg' apply to all eggs not just Larvesta or do I select something different for regular eggs?

Eggs can be found with the 'Gift Pokémon' option, their IVs will start at frame 8.

'Larvesta egg' is a seperate option applying to the egg recieved ingame from the Treasure Hunter and should only be used for that (it starts on a different frame, namely frame 2 - which is, I believe, accounted for when you select this option)

Can Gengar use the move Counter? I checked the serebii database and didn't found it. Battled a guy that used it and now I wonder if it's possible to use a counter+disable+shadow ball+focus blast in black and white versions.

First time poster, long time reader. You guys know your shit and I could definitely use some help. I've put together a few teams in the past and I'm in the process of putting together my first gen V team and wondering what I need next or what I should change. It doesn't really fall into any of the tiers because it uses guys from different tiers but its not-uber and it includes OU guys so I guess it counts as OU. From the testing I've been doing in the battle subway, I definitely need to find something specially based and probably something other than the Lucario I'm using and I need to figure out another attack for my Gliscor that I just started using. Here's what I've got so far...

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
252 Atk / 252 Def / 4 SpD - Brave
Gyro Ball
Power Whip
Stealth Rock
Spikes

Arcanine @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Speed - Adamant
Flare Blitz
Bulldoze (debating switching in Dig)
ExtremeSpeed
Close Combat

Lucario @ (nothing right now)
Ability: Inner Focus
4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Speed - Modest
Aura Sphere
Dragon Pulse
Dark Pulse
Psychic

Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
252 Atk / 252 Def / 4 Speed - Adamant
Acrobatics
Earthquake
Swords Dance
???

Zoroark @ Blackglasses
Ability: Illusion
4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Speed - Rash
Dark Pulse/Night Daze
Focus Blast
Flamethrower
Nasty Plot

Mienshao @ (nothing yet)
Ability: Regenerator
252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Speed - Adamant
U-Turn
Acrobatics
High Jump Kick
Stone Edge

Alternates:
Cloyster @ Shell Bell or White Herb
Ability: Skill Link
252 Atk / 252 Def / 4 Speed - Adamant
Icicle Spear
Spike Cannon
Rock Blast
Shell Smash

Doesn't have a water attack and I think I need to re-make it to give it Razor Shell and then probably take out Spike Cannon. I really only wanted to make something with Shell Smash and he hasn't worked THAT well yet.

Gyarados @ Mystic Water
Ability: Intimidate
252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Speed - Jolly
Aqua Tail
Dragon Dance
Ice Fang/Dragon Tail/Flail
Ice Fang/Dragon Tail/Flail

Originally I tried to make one to match my buddy's Zangoose with Flail, Endure, Swords Dance, and the speed berry but he didn't really work so then I used him with Dragon Tail and with Arcanine and Ferrothorn in order to abuse Spikes/Stealth Rock and Dragon Tail and that worked but if he was the last one left he didn't do very well.

Leavanny @ Scope Lens
Ability: Chlorophyll
252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Speed - Jolly
Sunny Day
Swords Dance
X-Scissor
Leaf Blade

Nidoking @ Life Orb(for now)
Ability: Sheer Force
252 Atk / 252 SpA / 4 Speed - Lonely
Earth Power
Poison Jab
Toxic Spikes
Helping Hand/???

I've been using him as a doubles guy with helping hand, partially because I don't know what else to give him as his 4th attack or what he will do well in singles play considering Nidoking gets destroyed depending on the tier he's in and because he has so many weaknesses.

Staraptor @ ???
Ability: Reckless
252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Speed - Adamant
Take Down
Brave Bird
Close Combat
???

Swellow @ ???
Ability: Scrappy
252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Speed - Adamant
Brave Bird
???

I haven't finished Swellow or Staraptor yet but I really wanted to use their respective abilities. Swellow's doesn't work all that well so I'll probably scrap it.

*had a lot of success with my Arcanine/Ferrothorn combo even though it definitely isn't the best one possible. Arcanine switches in on the fire types, takes the fire attack, and bulldozes them away, especially if I've already set up stealth rock and spikes. I also see the drawback of a fire type with earthquake demolishing me if its a fire type lead which would completely check Ferrothorn

*Zoroark only really works if he comes out while Mienshao is still alive and in the final slot still. Draws a psychic type attack, flying type attack, or a switch and allows for at least one Nasty Plot followed by Dark Pulse/Flamethrower/Focus Blast.

*Gliscor works much better as a lead so far so he probably has to come out but the 4th attack is killing me. Playing battle subway, I've run into WAY too many Yamask/Cofagrigus mummy abilities and way too many Simple Beam attacks. I don't know what learns Simple Beam but apparently its everything. Right now X-Scissor is that last slot but U-Turn probably fixes my problem now that I think of it.

*I probably need to get a Flying type or a Water type into my lineup somewhere and I've got a couple Archeops that would work into that spot but I've been ruined too many times by that stupid ability to want to use it right now.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Please :D

counter is a 3rd gen tutor move. Gengar learns it.

Hello, I want to know: which set was the one kingdra used most, before the swift swim proposal? I want to have some fun with my cousin xD

Ok thank you! Where do you see that drizzle + ss was banned? oO I thought only swift swim + drizzle in the same team is banned?

Do we have a speed tier list for all pokemon with two natures?? And when I say two natures I mean with a positive speed nature and with a non speed boosting nature.

Reposting. I did a little bit of research and found out that the shiny factor is dependant on the Pokemon's nature- if I change Latias' nature to Timid (from Hasty) I'll have to change a bunch of other stuff, but I think I'll be able to still keep it legal. So the question remains: Would I be able to get past a hack check, or would they be able to detect that it's been modified?
It is possible to pass a hack check, but only if you do a good job of modifying it. There's more you have to look for than just stats and nature, so make sure you do your research. Go for it if you think you can.

Also, shininess isn't dependent on nature, it's dependent on your trainer ID and SID. Just a friendly correction.

SS stands for swift swim ;)
I also think that DD Kingdra was the most used set (but specs propably was used by most of the better players)

Actually, shininess and nature are determined by the same RNG. So there's an indirect connection between them, although the precise details of the connection do indeed depend on your ID and SID.

I should also note that Smogon (and the VGC forum in particular) has a rule against discussing how to beat the VGC hack checks (which makes sense, because people who use legitimate Pokémon like you're meant to in tournaments don't want hackers to get better at flying under the radar). The original poster of the question is unlikely to get very clear answers on the subject because of that.

Sweet...no response. There is seriously no team building guides on a website like Smogon? :/ Or does everyone just know everything instantly. :(

Thanks for this. Truth be told it's only for play against my friends as I'm going to be moving to Japan soon and don't want any built-in cartridge hack checks to screw me over, and I've created enough Pokemon through Pokesav that I feel I know how to edit my Latias' nature without making it break the rules (so to speak). But, better safe than sorry. I completely understand that the VGCers would prefer legitimate Pokemon though. Thank goodness I lost my desire for serious competitive play awhile ago.

Why do people prefer using toxic orb over flame orb on Guts users? I thought Guts bypassed the -4 penalty to attack and toxic damage builds up way more than burn damage doesn't it?

Also I think if a pokemon is meant to be more of a glass cannon, toxic orb is better as it's 1/16, 2/16, ...15/16 while burn is 1/12, 1/12, 1/12

Or something like that. The thing with toxic orb is supposed to kill prolly 2 things for its own life

I've been using a Munna in my playthrough of White... how exactly does Synchronoise work? The way I interpreted the text was that it was a 70 BP attack to whoever I target, and also damages any partners (in a double/triple battle) who are of the same type, but I can't ever seem to get it to do anything (even in a wild double battle where both Pokémon were the same exact species).

The first 2 or 3 turns of toxic damage are lower than burn damage, and for sweepers who typically don't stay in for more than 3-4 turns at most, this is much more ideal.

I'm looking for some kind hearted person to help me to teach my metagross ice punch, and to teach my Zapdos Heat Wave.

I will repay you in cookies and love!

To add to the above answer:

The difference in HP loss between toxic and burn will not converge until after the end of the third round after the status problem starts. The following illustrates this:

Assume the Pokemon has 303 HP.

Round 1:
Toxic Orb activates / Flame Orb activates

Round 2:
Pokemon loses (1/16) of total HP / Pokemon loses (1/8) of total HP
-> -18 HP / -37 HP (total 18 HP / 37 HP)

Round 3:
Pokemon loses (1/16)*2 of total HP / Pokemon loses (1/8) of total HP
-> -36 HP / -37 HP (total 54 HP / 74 HP)

Round 4:
Pokemon loses (1/16)*3 of total HP / Pokemon loses (1/8) of total HP
-> -54 HP / -37 HP (total 108 HP / 111 HP)

Round 5:
Pokemon loses (1/16)*4 of total HP / Pokemon loses (1/8) of total HP
-> -72 HP / 37 HP (total 180 HP / 148 HP)

As you can see, round 4 is almost the break-even point for toxic and burn, so a Pokemon with Toxic Orb that stays for just 4 or fewer rounds is at an advantage over Flame Orb.
