Oh no, things were looking alright with Inter with Forlan covering Eto, but there is no substitute for Sneijder. Though luck for us if he goes to Manchester (?).

What about that Argentinean midfielder Inter signed over the summer? Ricky Alvarez, I think.

Idk why but I feel like Gasperini is the Roy Hodgson of Italy judging by the recent results and transer dealings...

Breaking news:

Liverpool sign Bent!

Odds have shortened on Wesley Sneijder leaving Inter Milan this transfer window.....there's also a cheeky rumour that he'll be on a flight this afternoon from Milan to Manchester.....

apparently Man Utd have also promised some 'exciting news' this afternoon so it looks as though the writing's on the wall...

I always thought that Man yoo needed a deep lying playmaker not an attacking midfielder. I'm not convinced that Sneijder is the right player (he's world class but in my view he shouldn't be what they're aiming for).

Yeah I'd wonder if Sneijder can adapt to playing deeper. Still, cleverley's done well so far and there aren't too many deep playmakers on the market so maybe fergie will stand pat.

There are many but there aren't many that are world class. The best deep lying playmakers in the world right now are Xabi Alonso and Xavi Hernandez but fergie hasn't got a chance of signing one of them lol

IMO, Fergie should be aiming for:

1) Modric
2) Schwensteiger
3) Ever Banega
4) Montolivo
5) to a lesser extent Huddlestone (might seem a bit odd but I'm a big fan of the guy, he has a good range of passing and can hold the midfield).

Any of those players would do wonders for them (so technically, I hope they don't sign any one of them).

Even Charlie Adam would have improved their central midfield significantly but just because he doesn't have some sort of exotic name, he's ''shit''. If his name was Carlos Adamski, every 11 year old in the fucking planet would be begging Ferguson to sign him up on Facebook.

Fucking joke of a transfer window. Stubborn board + Arsene leaves club in shitter.

It's not over yet.

Arteta for 10mil is a good deal, and Benayoun is decent I guess. At least now we will at least get out of the group stages of CL! I'm still not entirely convinced Liverpool has what it takes, they were poor at the Emirates and only snatched a win because of an own goal and sending off. We might be back in the running for 4th place if Arteta plays to the standard he used to, and we'll have Wilshere back soon too (fingers crossed). I'd still like Samba or Cahill but I'll settle for Tommy V and Mertesacker in defence with Kos and Djourou as backup.

Arteta is a good buy, if not a couple years too late, not really sure in the point of bringing in Benayoun, he is decent but Arsenal are kinda overloaded with that type of player.

Athletico have done well despite losing both Forlan and Aguero bringing in Falcao, Arda Turan and Diego.

Once we get Stevie G back and hopefully get a 3rd choice striker (Would like Sturridge, but Bellamy would suffice) I'd say Liverpool should do fine... We need to stop conceding, but we've been doing well, just a case of keeping consistent for a full 90 minutes (e.g. the Sunderland match).

Anyone else hear that rumour about Tottenham buying Kaka? Hahah I would have loved that.

Edit: Meireles has submitted a transfer request :s I guess it was gonna happen, he's got way too much competition in midfield now, but I've liked him... Heard rumours earlier of an exchange with Chelsea for Sturridge, would have been nice.

A couple of panic buys and this is what Arsenal fans come up with.
The signings IMO were just terrible (Andre Santos is decent though). Mertesacker is perhaps the worst (thats why)
Arsenal don't have the most important thing and that's a solid CORE/BACKBONE. No actual leader. When Arsenal were getting thrashed at Old Toilet, RVP was the first one to let his head drop. Can you imagine someone like Gerrard, Terry or Vidic doing something like that?

If you want me to detail why Arsenal's last minute buys were terrible, I'd be happy to do so.

On the other hand, Craig Bellamy to Livepool is official.
Liverpool's strike force now is:

Luis Suarez / Andy Carroll / Dirk Kuyt / Craig Bellamy

dissapointed with the news that meireles has handed in a written transfer request

Looks like Meireles is going, kinda dumb move letting such a great player rot on the bench in favor of overrated flavor of the month Henderson.

I didn't say the buys were ideal. In fact I'm not very happy with the buys myself, I would much rather have prefered Parker, Cahill, Samba, Baines, Mata, Hazard... hell any one of the many top class players we were linked with for a long while. But Arteta is good for the price and Benayoun, as I said, is decent. And I also consider Arsenal to have no leader or decent spine and has been the case for years. But they have been sufficient to guarantee CL football and after two losses people start dismissing Arsenal as if the team has no quality...?

Do you really consider Liverpool to be a top 4 shoe-in? Suarez is class and so is Adam, Downing is good but I'm not convinced about Henderson or Carroll or the back 4 for that matter. Liverpool has a top class keeper that has saved them plenty of times. Remember Liverpool had a good first half at Sunderland and then went missing. At Arsenal, despite us missing Wilshere, Song, Gervinho, Gibbs and having no leader or defence they were still dominated in midfield (fielding their strongest team) and could only muster a handful of counter attacks that posed no real threat. Granted Arsenal didn't look great either but that doesn't exactly paint Liverpool in a great light either, especially considering the same team got thrashed 8-2 by Man Utd the next week. Liverpool has not proven it is anywhere near top class yet.

Henderson wasn't playing in Meireles' position.

edit: but I have to admit. If I had the option to choose between Aquilani / Meireles or Adam / Henderson, I would have to choose the established italy and portugal internationals...
But I don't know what's happening behind closed doors and those two possibly didn't want to be here and in that case I would go for someone that appreciates being at a great club like liverpool

Alan Hutton, Jermaine Jenas --> Aston Villa
Nicklas Bendtner --> Sunderland
Raul Meireles --> Chelsea

apparently those happened in the last 20 minutes

It's not a certainty but pool are definitely the favourites

Suarez is class and so is Adam, Downing is good but I'm not convinced about Henderson or Carroll or the back 4 for that matter.

The bit about hendo and carroll is fair enough but the back 4 comment is ridiculous.

Arsenal were the ones dominated by Liverpool! It was one of the rare times that a team came to the emirates and did so.

Arsenal lost 8-2! EIGHT FFS

What game were you watching? I was there and Arsenal had all the possession until the sending off. Downing was pretty much silent that match, same with Carroll and Henderson. Adam was doing all the work and made some good passes and a shot. Agger got turned inside out by Nasri and Frimpong (yes Frimpong) was running the midfield. When Frimpong got sent off and Suarez came on, Liverpool finally got a spark and looked threatening. You can dismiss Arsenal if you want but it's foolish to think Liverpool are much better.

Chelsea gave liverpool £65m in 2011, effectively paying for Suarez, Downing, Adam, Jose Enrique & Coates. Cheers Roman!

Liverpool have taken £30m off their annual wage bill, also gained £80m in transfer fees and spent £110m~ since January. Net spend?

Cool stuff found on twitter

Edit: ^ Ok dude just checked, possession was exactly 50/50 :P No love lost

ok.. i'll dismiss both then

and some of these transfers havn't been announced yet, cos stoke signed crouch or something? god that is nasty with these throws :P

Man I'm dizzy from all these deals, when was the last time Arsenal had such a busy deadline day.

Arteta and Benayoun seem more like hopeful signings to me, guys that we arrived a bit too late on. I always thought Benayoun was underrated while with Liverpool and Benitez just didnt like him or whatever, but he's now 32 and coming off a serious injury. I have my doubts whether or not does he still have it. Thank god it's only a loan so we can throw him back if we dont like him.

Arteta would have been an epic steal at 10 mil 2 years back, but again hes a guy who has a recent injury history. He's still in his prime though, and he's generally played well when not injured, so hopefully he can put it behind him.

Anyway, Stoke sure is loading up on strikers. Not surprisingly all of them are giants.

:D I only wish he didn't spend money like a nine year old who's been given a million dollars.
And to answer those guys who think you can't be sure that liverpool will finish 4th the only reason they were even considered to finish 4th is'nt because they are good enough but because there's noone better. And by "noone" I am basically referring to Arsenal as they usually finish 4th(while Man Utd,Chelsea and City make up the top three) but their recent performance has forced people to count them out in the race for CL qualification.I mean who are the strongest clubs atm in the PL after The Top Three favourites? The answer is obviously Liverpool,Arsenal and maybe Spurs.Out of these Liverpool look the strongest atm which is why they are favourites to qualify for CL.As for Arsenal if they continue in the downward direction they seem to be headed in they may not be able to qualify for Europa League even. That being said it remains to be seen if their recent signings can turn the club around.I hope mereiles works for us and wish we could sign Modric.Sadly from what I hear talks between Porto and Chelsea on the transfer of Alvaro pereira have broken down. But I am happy with what we have regardless of that;we should finish 2nd even with bad performance this season though I hope that won't happen.
