I see Wenger making reactions to stuff that's already happened though - Mertesacker's been available all summer, and now he makes a move in the last 36 hours?

In other transfer news:

Joe Cole to Lille on a years loan.
Owen Hargreaves to City - yes they need MORE defensive midfielders.
Toon just signed Davide Santon From Inter Milan for close to 6m, decent.
Also talk of Macheda on loan to Newcastle from Man Utd.

Lille.......man this is quite the surprise, especially for an english player. we all know how reluctant most of them are to leave england, but guess there aren't too many teams that could pay joe cole's wages.

still, im not gonna let anything ruin my happiness at getting mertesacker at a knockdown price. Best news i've heard all summer this side of gervinho signing.

YES YES YES MERTESACKER SCREW CAHILL

and what Lee said. I dont see anyone blaming the board for this shit, yet they have as much to do with this as wenger does.

Trust me, he's not good enough. He's very tall but he's not dominant at all, gets easily shoved by opposing CF...

He's not mobile at all so he can't change directions very easily. Just think what players like Suarez and Aguero who are very tricky will do to him. He'll be torn apart.

Terribly slow and wouldn't fit Arsenal at all because Wenger likes to play a high-line (similar to Barca). Arsenal will be murdered at counter attacks.

Very prone to making mistakes (especially when he's under the slightest pressure) and was one of the main reason why a club of the stature of Werder Bremen were almost relegated.

The reason he was successful at international level was that Germany defended very deep (where his lack of speed and mobility couldn't be exploited) and played on the counter attack. Germany basically played a 4-2-3-1 so there was a lot of protection for the back-four and rarely did any forward run directly at him (he's terrified when this happens because he's terrible 1 on 1). When the opposition can't find any holes, they resort to simpler tactics like hoofing it and this is where he is good.

The only good thing about him is that he's good in the air, possibly useful against Stoke City but IMO, Jones and John Walters would turn him inside out. they've got pace, power as well as PRESENCE

With Vermaleen and his questionable positional sense getting forward recklessly at times, he's gonna be isolated against teams that play 2 up front (4-4-2 are very common in the EPL), you don't want that. Sorry, he's not good enough.

EDIT: Latino heat beating me by 9 minutes... basically a tl;dr version of my post if anyone's too lazy to read lol

Brilliant post tbh Lee

...is this some kind of trap?

Nasri probably has a point but we are talking about a guy who said he moved to City because he was impressed by how passionate the fans are. he's obviously willing to say anything to take the spotlight off of how much of a sell-out he is.

Did you not forget the part where anyone in the world would have done exactly what he did? Player loyalty left our shores years ago.

...is this some kind of trap?

No.
except for the fact that your source is more than a year old. Things changed but possibly not that much, so most of the stuff you said was relevant.

Interesting times right now for my beloved Liverpool. In January, most of the deals were done at deadline day and I honestly expect something to still happen.

Kenny Dalglish is someone that likes to please his fans. The sole reason he spent that much in January (apart from the fact that it was needed) was to show the fans that things have changed.

6ft.6 CB uruguay CB Sebastian Coates has passed his medical (according to twitter, saw some pictures of him in the area), still waiting on the work-permit.

David Ngog is leaving to Bolton for £4.5m and Sturridge and Zarate (Lazio) are being touted as possible replacements to add to the strike-force.

I expect Coates (pronounced Co-wa-tess) to come for sure as well as a 4th choice striker.

However, I expect a mouth-watering marquee signing to come because Kenny likes making the fans happy. Not that I'm not satisfied, it's the opposite in fact. Possibly Eden Hazard?? Could be included in the Joe Cole deal :toast:

I don't care who we get i'm happy as long as we get a creative midfielder.Alvaro pereira/Modic/Mereiles ar is gonna go blue in a matter of days. And along with Lampard,Ramires and Mata he's gonna make an effective midfield.

Wigan sign Albert Crusat from Almeria, very lightweight player but decent attacker and is probably the fastest player in Spain, has the pace to rival Walcott, not a bad signing imo.

Not really sure why clubs still show interest in Huntelaar , seems to get linked every transfer window. Proved he can't really cut it at top level with both Madrid and Milan, still seems to be living off 5 year old hype.

Even if Arsenal pays the money for Dempsey, i don't see this player making any difference for the team. But i guess they are willing to buy something now.

Neither Mereiles or Perreira are creative midfielders.

Dempsey......eh he's good but I think we can aim a bit higher than that. we definitely need a creative midfielder though, RAMBO clearly isnt ready.

Park Chu Young deal is now official. Wenger said 3 signings so i guess andre santos and mertesacker round it out.

Park Chu Young, Santos and Mertesacker.

I would be underwhelmed if I was an Arsenal fan. None of those players have any PL experience which is worrying.

He should have went for players like Baines and Cahill, IMO. A strong british core is what they need for me.

Neither Mereiles or Perreira are creative midfielders.

Mereiles doesn't really fit bill of a creative midfielder,i agree with ya just said that coz he wis being tracked as a replacement in case we fail to sign Modric.Pereira on the other hand is very creative LWM and can also play LB.Whoever saw the Copa America will tell you that.

Finally, Sebastian Coates to Liverpool is official!

Hope Coates plays against Stoke, he'll have Jones and Walters in his inside pocket :D

On the other hand, Everton are set to announce the signing of Korean international Foo Kin No Wan

arsenal are going to sign 4 more players ALONG WITH Chu Park and Merk..

which means.. santos and 3 others.

gonna be interesting Arsene isn't done yet. [was spotted flying to france earlier today.. ]

M'Vila will probably be one, they still need a playmaker and an actual forward that can put the ball in the net. Park is more in the style of Van Persie.

Park will probably get some instant action, its the international break, which means van persie is about to go down.

22m M'vila.....id rather that money be spent on a fabregas replacement tbh, that area is a bigger weakness, unless wenger wants to play Song and M'vila together and push Wilshere in to the fabregas role when he comes back.......

meanwhile fulham seem close to getting Bryan Ruiz. Quite the coup I'd say

Chelsea are also tracking Porto's Jaio Moutinho should we fail to sign Modric.A midfielder with a good eye for players going forward,so I heard from the Porto fans. Also getting close to signing Ajax's Gregory Van Der Wiel.
I'm very happy the way things are looking now The possible problem might be selection of strikers.AVB is still looking for that magic combination of strikers.Personally,I think an attack led by Lukaku,Torres and Sturridge should do wonders up front.

Apart from that our midfield problem will be solved in a few days.Very excited about new arrival Juan Mata I mean scoring on his debut? He's certainly no fernando torres lol.Our defense is solid as ever.I just hope none of them get injured this season(I'm looking at you Terry)as to replace the quality we have behind especially the expertise of our long serving british defender. Also our former Golden Glove winner better get well soon;Hilario sucks. If all this goes in order we shouldn't below 2nd place:-)

^ For Chelsea, Mata's best positions are in the final third in a 4-3-3, playing off a striker. Lukaku and Torres in the same team is redundant. For me, Chelsea should be playing with Torres spearheading the attack with Mata (LFwd) and Sturridge (RFwd) playing off him as inside forwards and pulling wide when needed. Chelsea's future front three would be:

-----------------------Lukaku

------J. Mata---------------------------Sturridge

Looks very promising unless Sturridge is sold to Liverpool (included in the Meireles deal), I would bite their hands off.

Terrible business by both Arsenal and Spurs really, leaving all the work till the last minute. You can expect a plethora of panic buys now.

It's deadline day! I hope it's as exciting as january :P

Bendtner to Stoke...how the self-proclaimed mighty have fallen...

Keisuke Honda in London talking to Arsenal...again.

Anzhi Makhachkala preparing a €28.2m bid for Manchester United's captain Nemanja Vidic. You know the team that are paying Eto'o 18m a year to play for them? Hmmmmm...sell lol.

Chelsea make their move, 30m + Malouda for Modric.

Spurs sign Parker, bid 15m for Cahill and the Diarra deal isn't dead, but they wan't Madrid to pay some of the wages.

Yossi Benayoun looking to go to Arsenal, Spurs or back to Liverpool, Arsenal most likely imo.

Joe Cole rumoured to be tempted back onto the P&O with Villa, but Liverpool say he's going to Lille or nowhere.

Odds have shortened on Wesley Sneijder leaving Inter Milan this transfer window.....there's also a cheeky rumour that he'll be on a flight this afternoon from Milan to Manchester.....
