Thought I'd share some pics of my house with you guys:

I made my house on this village I found, mixing two of the houses together. The lookout tower and the well were both self generated too!

This is the other side, where I have my farms. The water moat thing outside I made myself to keep endermen away.

Just a small garden I made with the extra space

I used to find cobblestone so very unattractive but ever since they were used as structures for the NPC houses I honestly don't mind it as much anymore.

Lol, I feel kind of bad since the only pond we have in the town has been covered by my house... hehehehe.... Oh ya, finaly got to see what an endermen looks like and man, do they suck. Hope notch fixes that.

You wanna know what we should do? Put a monster spawner in the middle of town and have a battle royale! Once we get tired of it, we can put torches around it, but I think it would be fun to see how long we can last.

EDIT: Oh ya, I tried getting on minecraft (actually downloading it from the internet just now) and it wouldn't let me..... Anyone know why that is? I've been able to download it up until now.....

Is it not letting you log in or are you unable to run it?

yo, i don't know what the deal was with the locking doors and chests and whatnot, but i think we might want to rethink taking that out of the server. i was on last night messing around and got pretty pissed off fighting cave spiders and losing a bunch of ore i had mined. afterwards i was salvaging what remained in my house and somebody just came in, looked in my chest, and left while i was standing right there. i had to say 'hi' to him to initiate a conversation before he even interacted with me at all. i just thought that it was weird that someone would casually walk into your house, check out your stash, and leave. after that, i heard another guy went back to his house to get something, and realized that all of the iron he had mined was gone. if we have new users on here and they're still learning that it's not cool to jack other people's shit, i think it's best to just lock everything by default and unlock it if it's a public storage area. that's just my opinion here, but i'm having some trouble trusting that other users have good courtesy or morals right now, and it might be a problem once we get the main server running when the next update drops.

Depends on where they leave their chests. If its out in the open, then it should be fair game to anyone who comes by and says: Ooh, iron ore for making armour and tools! Ima gonna make stuff with it! If it's in your house then ya, you can't just go in and take stuff, but I've seen lots of chests out in the open filled with all sorts of goodies. Here's a hint. If you don't want your stuff taken, hide your chest in your house or somewhere not out in the open. If it's in your house though, that's completely different than out in the open.

wish these stupid bugs would fix, minecraft was using 90%+ cpu.
try out some seeds
gimmeabreak - spawns you in a village
1337 spawns you on a swamp island (more or less an island) with lots of sheep and a nice cave not to far away, so fairly decent starting spot

rocket grunt you can check out my stash any time ^_~

also gimmeabreak is a really sick seed, i would highly recommend it for smogcraft since you spawn not only in a village, but there are desert/snow/swamp biomes right there too

I do not like the interim map.

I could not jump the ravine.

I died many times.

Some of the stuff was nice.

I will be back for new map.

so you're basically just admitting to theft, master win?

what a great start for you

I would not steal from someone. But what I'm saying is that if you don't want your valuable items stolen, don't leave those in a chest that is open for the public. I find that having to steal something because your too broke and lazy is sad. Pretty low. If I'm not supposed to take anything from the chest, then I won't. But nobody told me not to when I first started out.

you know the chests aren't randomly generated, so you know they are put there by other people

knowingly taking other people's items is theft, through and through

you really shouldn't need to be told that

But why put those chests there then? I thought that the dan dan or layell put those items there for public use. I just don't see why you would put rare and valuable things in a chest... I think I saw some redstone, iron ore, and lapis in the same chest.

I think it's pretty obvious to tell if a chest was put there by someone or ones that were generated into dungeons and old mines.

When I first started on the map I used some sense and didn't take from any of the chests. If I thought they were there for anyone to take from I'd obviously go and ask first. You don't really have an excuse for stealing...

Oh I'm just gunna say that I completely agree with this.

my point is that if there is ever a question on whether or not a chest is open for public use, it would be great to be able to lock or unlock it. that way, no one is wondering. if it's locked, you can't interact with it. it's not for you. if it's unlocked and you feel okay about taking items from it, go for it. not only that, but i'm sure some users are sneaky enough to come into someone's house and steal items/ores in small increments to avoid detection from the owner. i know we had tried the 'chest interaction history' plugin with bukkit before, but i think having locked chests in your house would prevent item theft completely.

going back to last night, when that user came into my house and looked inside my storage, he asked afterwards if he could have my string. if i hadn't been there for him to ask or i hadn't engaged him in conversation he may have just taken it. who knows. i gave it to him because i'll always try to help someone out, but if you're going to go around stealing from other people, fuck you.

The problem with the lock everything by default thing is the ease of screwing someone over by loading their house with unbreakable, private blocks/signs/whatever.

If you guys can think of someway around this and isn't just "oh the mods can go and break them when necessary", please lemme know.

that's a good point. we did have a house griefed with signs all over it. you also couldn't really post on that little public announcement board near the spawn point because some blocks were impossible to post a sign on due to them touching another sign. is there a way that we could only lock chests and furnaces by default?

First off I would like to apologize. I had taken some iron ore from a chest near that little brick bridge. I didn't take all of it though. It was out in the open and looked like a public chest. Next time I find a chest out in the open, I will ask if its OK, kay guys? Problem solved. What I'm gonna do is place some cobble stone in front of my doors. That way the intruder will have to break in. I will also place a water pit on the other side that they cant jump over.

Don't worry though. I understand whats going on now. People have placed chests in random areas and stored their stuff in there. Still seems kind of stupid to do that though. anyone can steal from there..... But I don't like the idea of locks though. Just... neh.

By accident I think I flooded a tunnel by accident...... Woopsies.
