And because of those flaws of not being able to pushing across runners when any normal team would, I would say that the Rangers are indeed vastly superior.

It's like me saying that Boston would be the best team in history if they had better starting pitching. Though that might be true, they don't so they arn't. Get the logic?
That's a really dumb analogy. It's dumb because you're comparing Boston, who lacked an actual part of a baseball team (Pitching Staff) to a complete team like the Tigers, which has a really good pitching staff and an offense who was tops in the league at batting with RISP (top two batters in BA with RISP), who for all of a sudden for two games forgot how to punish the mediocre Texas pitching when they literally set the table up for our big bats. Hopefully now that's neither here nor there anymore because our offense: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnwIIKnWJtg&feature=related

Why in the flyin @#!*% did we not intentionally walk Cabrera...
It wouldn't have mattered?

Laughable Doug Fister
Hmmm... What did you say? I didn't quite catch that... Could you say that again? I'm pretty sure you DIDN'T say Doug Fister was laughable.

" the yankees would be winning if we didn't have a pitcher named AJ Burnett. Tigers fan, suck it up. Of course the tigers would be winning if they left less on base, thats baseball man. Anyways, since the tigers ruined my yankees, lets go texas!
Uh... didn't AJ Burnett win his game?

itt people who know nothing about baseball are spewing shit at record paces, about to break the record set by Rafael "I have never used steroids" Palmiero.

As for news: Astros sale will be approved and apparently they will be moving to the AL West! Finally we'll see some real competition in that league for last place!

edit@biggie i missed you saying the exact same thing lol

I thought I was clear, but if I wasn't, I was saying that orbpom was the uninformed baseball fan.

Good news for the Astros. Maybe now they'll actually have a place to put Carlos Lee and his god awful contract. (DH slot)

Just forget it. Mama told me not to talk to idiots...

I actually blame the Detroit fanbase for the Tigers doing poorly. They are too hyped up over the Lions. I think they forget that baseball is still being played...

Toronto is probably the most overlooked team in the mlb. They have their run machine with bautista, and a good young pitching staff with potential anchored by ricky romero(who is a beast). As they play their majority of games against the east, they have trouble against the juggernaughts(boston and NY). If not in that division, i honestly seeing them being in a playoff run possibly as a wildcard?

Quit talking to yourself in a mirror then...

No seriously. Instead of revealing to us your intellectual bankruptcy with name calling, why not think up a better response. I'm quite capable of basic communication and understanding.

Guys why are you fighting? Obviously the the tigers are decent enough to make the postseason, but i think they lack elements world series teams have. Please stop arguing

Apperently you're not, as my 2 year old cousin has a better knowledge of both baseball and come backs. Seriously bro? The mirror thing?

It is quite irritating to see this thread continually disintegrate into arguments fueled by nothing more than bias.

Anyways, one thing that J-man mentioned that frustrated me is the myth that batting with RISP is a skill. Statistics have never shown, and I mean NEVER, shown, that players are consistently "better" (10% increased batting average) at hitting with RISP. Due to the random nature of baseball, fluctuations occur from a year to year basis. The only trend you will EVER see is this - good batters normally will be good batters with runners in scoring position. It is just ignorant to say that an offense is good because of how they hit with RISP. Look at this graph, and if you can honestly tell me that the following hitters lack any sort of batting "skill" due to their fluctuation in BA with RISP, there is no reason to continue any sort of conversation.

MLB Batting Average - .255 MLB Batting Average with RISP - .254

BA is horribly influenced by many factors, but over the sample size of the entire season from every team's perspective, it's fair to use as luck becomes less and less an issue with a larger sample size.

Anyways, the Tigers offense is efficient because of the core of Martinez/Cabrera, who, you know, happen to be good hitters. (Also much deserved street cred to both Avila and Peralta, if Jim Leyland knew how to write a line up in..). Much of the Tigers offense is unable to get on base, ever... there are so many regulars this season who had a sub .320 OBP, which is pathetic... the averages for the team are just skewed by the incredible season Cabrera had (who should probably get more MVP consideration than Verlander.... but that's for another time), and the strong hitting of the other three mentioned.

@Moi

Cabby had a meh season... The only reason he has wicked numbers was because of September, when he learned the secrets to activate berserker mode without the use of scotch... :P

And really? I mention two players that have high BA with RISP and you go off on a tangent about it? I just hope Dombrowski wakes up, smells the coffee, let's Leyland go off to retirement land and tells Terry Francona "Hey, sup, wanna win us a world series? We got all the tools to win, and we need a pretty good manager for our team. Heard you were pretty good." I can not emphasize enough how much of a force the Tigers could/will be next year. T'will be an exciting year.

I really cant see Francona with the tigers. He was always a Boston man, and even though i'm a die hard yanks fan i have grown to respect him as he is one of the most knowlegeable figures in baseball today. I think Leyland will be around for a while, but Terry always wanted a high atmosphere place which doesn't really describe Detroit.

Clearly you know nothing about detroit...

Well as a city i don't, not even close to living in there. But as a team i just cant see him going to a lower market team with less enthusiastic fans.

Cabrera had a season that fluctuated because of his BABIP. His September stats seem much better because of the high level of luck on his batted ball average, so it's not fair to make assumptions that his September carried him...

Miguel Cabrera's BABIP/AVG per month
.325/.333 - April
.319/.286 - May
.373/376 - June
.271/.250 - July
.433/.390 - August
.446/.429 - September

Instead, his stats were just a representation of an average. Assuming one player is having an "excellent" month due to heating up or what not tends to really just be a large streak of better luck.

And no, you didn't mention just "two batters". You mentioned the offense as a whole. I am posting in attempt to point out flaws in ignorant statements that people seem to use while discussing baseball. If you are fine with continually using baseball cliches from the "knowledge" gained by watching a broadcaster, fine, but I recommend you read up on sabermetrics if you're interested in seriously talking about baseball.
