Does anyone know where to find Gen IV information about the Battle Tower (of any 4th Gen game) and its Multi Battle Rooms? What I need to find is a list of the Pokemon that the NPC partners (Riley, Marley, Buck, etc.) use, so that I'm not playing guess-and-check and end up with terrible partner Pokemon. I'm trying to get the last of my Battle Tower ribbons, and I'd appreciate any help or being pointed in the right direction.
This might be what you're looking for, though only for D/P/Pt.

Thanks, but I just got what I was looking for :D Does anyone offhand know how many ribbons are legally obtainable by any given Pokemon (One that did NOT come with any ribbons beforehand like Classic Ribbon) in Gen IV? Is it something like 39?

Somewhere around 100, as there are 110+ ribbons available (including Gen 3 and 4 event ribbon, so minus two that number). Please note I'm assuming you're also counting ribbons obtainable in Gen 3 that the pokemon has now in Gen 4 due transferering, such as contest ribbons and tournament ribbons, which should come down to around 90 something, due the tournament ones only having one available for each tournament participation (Winner, Runner up and Semifinalist). But if counting Gen 4 only, probably somewhere around that, since info on what exactly in which games are a bit limited.

So, it appears my Warstory has been locked. I'll still ask why, even though I have a feeling that the answer will be similar to the reason for locking a similarly controversial Warstory, "The Wrath of God":

Okay, this is getting a bit mean-spirited now and there hasn't been any actual Pokemon-related posts since the OP. ... It was obviously well-received and was a nice break... but I'm closing it before we get any more hostility or post count+++

Three and a half hours, 17 Luvdiscs, and then locked. I have but one thing to say: Joan, I win.

Honestly, though, I have no idea why this happened. I definitely used "The Wrath of God" for inspiration, but I attempted to avoid a total shitfest by omitting extremely controversial and almost certainly inappropriate content—learning from Joan's mistakes (or truimphs), as I saw it. I see my Warstory as wholly better—there's still the "fun, not SRS BIZNS" element; there was actually substance to the battle; the ending was a nail-biter; the formatting is superb; and the commentary is insightful and, most importantly, appropriate.

To quote an article in Issue 14 of The Smog:
The Art of War(story) said:
To the readers of both The Smog and Warstories: I would like to remind you that all work and contributions on Smogon, and this includes warstories, is completely voluntary. It is an unfortunate reality, but the expectations and criticism of warstories has become increasingly toxic, bordering on outright disrespectful flaming at times. In fourth generation, this led to a near complete extinction of warstories from Stark Mountain. There is a reason that the most recent archived warstory is from last June, and the story before that from January. It is not due to people not writing good stories. It is due to intolerable criticism and complete ingratitude by the community causing warstories in general to disappear. Writing a warstory takes a lot of effort and hard work. Respect for this effort is why we don't allow people to just post logs as a thread with some scanty comments thrown in. However, respect for this effort should also mean genuine gratitude for the stories and writers—even if not all of them are perfect, awe-inspiring masterpieces. ... Please, let us appreciate the writers and encourage them to continue writing. It would be great for the whole community to continue to enjoy warstories in the future.

While this may be me selfishly ranting, the mixed reaction to my Warstory says something about the community as well (which, admittedly, I am not familiar with, so maybe this isn't news to you). I just feel that I sunk way too much time and effort into this to have a few intolerant people ruin it for everyone. 23 of the 32 comments were praise (or at least non-negative) and the other nine came from only five separate users, so those who did not approve were definitely the minority. If one actually reads "The Art of War(story)," as I did before writing this Warstory, it is clear that my Warstory is in accordance with the general guidelines. Hell, it even gets two out of the three bonus points. Aside from the obvious hax, it's near flawless—even the haters acknowledge this. What I find most amusing is that I pointed out numerous times in the introduction that this was not going to be a standard (boring) battle, and yet people still bitch at me. Is it too much to ask that people refrain from posting if they have nothing but hate? This leads to my second question in all of this (lol), which is: is there any chance that the thread can be re-opened if we somehow come to an agreement to lower the hostility?

I think a superb example of this kind of peaceful response can be found in this Warstory, which also showcases unusual Pokemon and sets. This was another very successful Warstory that I looked at while in the process of writing my own. I have no idea how my Warstory became a complete clusterfuck while the one I just mentioned got civilized comments of disagreement like

Not the best battle but I have to admit that this was funny.
That was literally the full extent of the hate, despite the two battles being almost identical (save for mine being haxier).

In the end, I don't have much of a say in this, if any at all, but I thought that I should voice my opinion seeing as I am the source of all this chaos.

Due to the two questions I posed being fairly simple to answer, I feel this is the correct place to pose said questions. I also don't think that this deserves its own thread (and it would get locked anyway).

I'm trying to keep this forum competitive in nature. By having a thread in which a poor battle was commented on and you winning through mere chance is ridiculous and goes against what I am trying to do with this forum. That thread that Lee locked was posted about nine months ago. The forum has undergone a change and the metagame itself has undergone changes. I'm fine with warstories. I love them. That's how I started off in Smogon. But the problem is warstories are supposed to be good matches. That's not what your thread was. Commentary, formatting, and the battle all make up a good warstory. If you don't have all three of those then it is not considered a good warstory.

Wrath of God was more towards extreme and could be said of touching towards religious issues, not to mention the multiple sexual references and that it basically ended in a complete shitfest.

As for yours, some sets were simply borderline terrible: Specs Exca is bad(and really, no reason to use it), I was going to post that I stopped reading when I saw Endure on your Tyranitar but the topic was locked, etc. Also, if you read closely, virtually 90% of the praises lean towards sarcasm, hell, look at Benny in a Jet's comment:

Benny in a Jet said:
Drain Punch Togekiss was what I used to take on E4 Round 2 in my first HG run. =D

Chuck Norris / 10

If that doesn't even count as an obvious joke I don't know what to say...

Well I looked through some Warstories and it does appear that you guys are consistent with locking the threads if any of the three elements are absent or lacking. I may not completely agree, but thanks for replying. I shall close this chapter of my Warstory escapade with these words of wisdom: "If you ain't got haters, you're doing something wrong." Until we meet again Smogon, farewell. It was fun while it lasted.

I was curious if anyone knows if evolving earlier will give better stats or not by level 100. Say there are 2 Minccinos. Both level 20 same EVs/Nature. Will the one you evolve at 20 have better stats at 100 or will it have similar stats as the other you waited to evolve to learn a certain move?

Assuming they both have identical IVs/EVs/nature and evolve, they'll both have the same stats regardless of when you evolve 'em. Pretty simple.

So yeah don't worry about stalling to learn a move, it won't make a difference.

Doesn't matter what level they evolve, but does if they don't evolve.

To be exact, evolving will boosts their stats, and stat gain.

I think stat gain, but I'm positive about stats.

Does Superpower work with Sheer Force?

From the current OU Strateydex for "Physical Attacker" Darmanitan @ Life Orb:
"The remaining moves provide coverage; Rock Slide is only slightly less powerful than Stone Edge thanks to Sheer Force, and Superpower helps to hit Balloon Heatran and Terrakion while taking out Blissey without recoil."

To my knowledge, the only way to bypass recoil from Life Orb on a damaging move is to use a move that is boosted by Sheer Force; but, my understanding of Sheer Force is that it would not boost Superpower.

From the Strategydex page for "Sheer Force":
Recoil, user stat penalties, increased critical hit ratio, perfect accuracy, and variable-power attacks are primary effects and so moves with these effects are not boosted by Sheer Force.

Is that write-up for Darmanitan wrong, is my understanding of the write-up wrong, or is my understanding of the Sheer Force mechanic wrong?

Fawfulmk-II:

No; a Flame Orb is not a "Fire-type attack by a non-bearer", which is what Flash Fire affects. (Therefore, when Flame Orb causes its holder to be burned, it does not also trigger Flash Fire.)

Centigrade:

No, the Attack and Defense reduction from Superpower is not considered an additional effect for the purposes of Sheer Force: it's effect reads "Decreases user's Attack and Defense by 1 stage if this attack is successful." rather than "May decrease user's Attack and Defense by 1 stage". (Therefore, a Pokemon with Sheer Force holding Life Orb will still lose HP from Life Orb after using Superpower.)

That is, it's your understanding that's wrong. Sheer Force is referring just to Rock Slide. Then it mentions using Superpower to take down Heatran, and as an option against Blissey if you don't want to suffer the Flare Blitz recoil.

Showsni:

In that case, though, it should have said "without the recoil from Flare Blitz", since some readers, including Centigrade here, may confuse it with the phrase "without the Life Orb recoil" without knowing better (although, strictly speaking, the HP loss from Life Orb is not considered recoil damage).

When are we able to get the Autumn Friendly tournament Pokes out of the locked Battle Box? I assumed it'd be unlocked now that the tourny is over. :/

In 5th gen, will I have a problem (aside from having to wait 24 hours for time-based events and Game Sync) if I connect to Nintendo WFC on a different DS than the one I regularly use? I want to make sure it won't give me a new Game Sync ID and force me to start the Dream World over again with 0 points or something terrible like that.

Yes, as each DS has different FC with a game (it changes when using another copy), it will:
Create a new game sync ID.
Make your rating in GBU Rating mode go back to 1500.
And since you have a new game sync ID, you'll need to make another account and thus, start over with 0 Dream Points.
In other words, don't change your DS you're playing White/Black on.

question.

is disable forever?

like if i choose to stay in once a move is disabled, will it ever wear off? bulbapedia says it wears off after 5-7 turns but on PO, it lasts forever.... any ideas? is this a bug?
