I'm still not sure how it happened but I tore my MCL in my knee. I believe it's a degree 2 leaning to 3 almost but surgery in my case is optional, which I'm not getting. I just need to rest up my knee for a good amount of time and take it easy.

ouch, sorry about that man. yeah, take it easy and rest up. 6 months from now it's back to mexican bad assery eh? :P seriously though, i'm looking forward to seeing how everything goes for you. you're a good guy with a lot of knowledge, work strongth

I sprained my left ankle grade 2 late November, after spraining my right one a little less in late September (not to mention my pulled groin). This shit is awful, I have forgotten what it's like to be 100% healthy.

I sprained my ankle before really bad before as well, while playing football. 300 pound guy landed on me and I didn't have time to land correctly on my foot, and it twisted really bad. I didn't want crutches but I couldn't walk for shit. Surprisingly it I was up and training again in 2 weeks.

I don't know why 4 weeks into this injury I still feel some pain. It's the worst thing that has happened to me.

the physical injury thread

my forearm has been hurting for a while and I might have pulled my groin a few weeks ago because I can't squat at all without it hurting. Forearm injury sucks especially because it hurts to varying degrees on a bunch of different lifts, plus I can't play racquetball with it, but it's been getting better recently so hopefully it'll be gone soon.

Haven't been able to squat heavy in weeks though and it's pissing me off

Yeah, this bad groin might be the worst injury of the bunch. The ankle is still a little swollen and painful, but I don't care, it's slowly going away. The groin will feel like it's going away, and then flare back up like crazy for NO reason. I was given stretches to try to help it along, but nothing seems to help, even taking time off from working out. Fucking bullshit groin.

the physical injury thread

Broke the fifth metatarsal on my root foot back in January of 2010, called a Jones fracture. The area gets low blood flow so healing takes a long time and in athletes re-injury is common. After 2 months in a cast and another 2-3 weeks of taking it real easy, slowly got back to running and soccer. Went about a month before having issues, would try to play in games but one wrong step and I'd be done for the day. Stopped playing for most of summer in order to fully heal up and hopefully put the injury behind me. Started soccer again in late fall, eased back into it and felt fine so was optimistic that I was finally back at 100%. Mid-October I was playing in a game and running hard when I stepped on some bumpy ground cause our field is shit, and instantly knew I'd done my foot again. Been takin' it easy since then, but I still have some soreness and such in the area and can tell if I were to go all out on a bumpy field it wouldn't take long..

Pretty frustrating stuff, approaching a full year now of this nonsense. I've forgotten what it feels like to be fully in shape. Going to have to go back to the foot doctor sometime soon and see what he says. Also haven't really been able to squat since the mid-october injury, I've tried but with heavy weights I just can't keep my form, I don't want to have it all on my foot and yeah...annoying.

out of my injury and lifting again, went good

took it easy to work on form, rom dropped slightly i guess but i've been stretching pretty well over the last few days. form deteriorated though slightly, working on fixing all that and stuff. SS was a good read, lots of diagrams to go through. next up is convict conditioning because while me and two brothers are doing SS, i'm having another do convict conditioning instead. just experimenting. honestly i think it's gonna be awesome to see one of my brothers do [fucking] hand stand push ups

Anyone have any info/links for vegetarian diets? I'll finally have my own kitchen next semester and I want to properly cut since I've been really sloppy with it.

I'm no vegetarian but I was a biochem major now in medschool so I can offer some limited advice.

Learn your proteins; you need complete sources of all amino acids in your foods in order to maintain protein synthesis. Protein synthesis isn't just limited to muscle building but essential for all regular cell processes. So for vegetarians it is about quality not quantity.

Here are some helpful links re: complementing and limiting amino acids specific to vegetarianism.

Also iron is a huge problem. Plzplzplz don't eat a shit load of spinach and think you're all good. Yes, it is high in iron, but only a minuscule amount is available to humans due to specific plant enzymes binding irreversibly to the iron so we can't access it. Worst case scenario these can actually deplete your bodily sources so I would recommend speaking to your pharmacist about getting a readily bio available iron supplement. Failing that beans, lentils and eggs can be good sources.

Flax and hemp seed oil are amazing sources of essential fatty acids and whole flax seeds can be used for protein also if you don't eat fish.

Went to the first Powerlifting meet of the season.

I'm in the 181 weight class (barely made it lol... my official weight at the meet was 181.4)
So I got 340 on squat, then got 195 on bench (I scratched two attempts at 210, but I couldn't get it up)
I went on to deadlift. None of the other people on the team can deadlift very well. So naturally, I got 275. I would have placed 5th out of about 10 guys, but the kid right below me got 405 on deadlift while I scratched attempts at 325 and 315. (although I got the weight up, the judges didn't like my form or some other shit)

It was a OK outing for my first meet. my next one will be this coming Thursday. I should improve a bit this week on Deadlift and bench so I can make it in the top 3 at a meet and obtain a letterman.

might have been a knee lock out thing on the deadlift, i heard judges are strict as shit when it comes to that and it has to be done in a way they like it

otherwise: i'm fucking jealous! powerlifting meet -- fuck -- nice work! nice numbers anyway. i'm rooting for you to bring that deadlift up! you're a hop, skip and a jump away from 1000 (well, sort of. only like 200 pounds! optimism is best, right? :D)

ps please take pictures thursday pretty please with sugar on top

pps why are your meets so close together?

lol thanks.
I'm gonna be realistic though. I can reasonably get 900+ total if I just bring my deadlift above 300 and my bench above 200.
The judges are pretty strict lol. He told me that the bar was resting on my thighs on Deadlift, but I don't think it was (I didn't feel the bar). I don't remember or not if I did lock out my knees (they make you do that on squat though), but it might be worth a go next meet.

Our coach can't get our meets any further apart. This one is only 30 minutes away and the others he couldve gotten are and hour plus (not fun on a school day).

I might or might not take pictures. depends on how i feel lol

Zenotwapal - how old are you? Mad jelly of your squat btw; is that with or without knee wraps?

I'm attending my first meet in May, atm my predicted maxes are 280 squat (no wraps), 225 bench, 385 deadlift... Just short of 900 total. I hope to have at least a 1000 total in May since all of those stats are completely RAW (no wraps/belts) and at the meet I will be using a belt.

I'm 16 about to be 17.
I get 340 with wraps, suit, and belt. I can get 315 without any of that though. Atleast 315.
your deadlift is better than mine for sure, I just wish I had better form lol

Week 3: Had to do 3 consecutive days because I went away for 3 days and fuckkkk man it's tough.

6'3" and still hovering around the 196lb mark for body weight. Less than 10%BF last time I got it checked.

135 squat
135 dead
90 Row
95 Overhead
155 bench

Only really overhead press and bench which I really have to push atm.

Also with squats, it's starting to hurt my thumbs as they get quite stretched during the exercise. I use a false grip or w/e my thumb is not wrapped around but on the same side as my palm. Is my grip too wide/too shallow/bar not sitting on shoulder blades right?? (low bar squats on the spine of scapula)

edit: halp

You can also try wrapping towels around your bar. I do not recommend this at weight that you're struggling with though, because it can become dangerous.

You'll see a change with a wider grip though.

some days I do doubles, running twice a day, running and soccer practice, running and lifting, etc. on rare occasions I will triple, with all 3 of running, lifting, and soccer practice.
