The Everything NFL Thread: 2011-2012 Season (plus free agency I guess)

Well the Saints did just lose half of their defense, one of their best WRs, and their head coach. Although with the way that defense cost them their entire season last year, that might actually be a good thing. Seriously, giving up 2 late touchdowns...to Alex Smith....pathetic

The Saints are weird.

Robert Meachem was good, but the guy who's likely to replace him as the number two receiver (Lance Moore) was already more productive than Meachem was on less snaps last year. He had more catches, more targets, better catch percentage, more TDs and more yards on almost half the snaps that Meachem had. It could be because Meachem was a threat defenses tried to focus on but I don't know. Could be an upgrade if anything.

Meanwhile, the Saints Defense went from absolute shit, to having a huge run defending presence by adding both Bunkley and Lofton, and with a strong run defending presence at those two positions means it's really easy to incorporate a solid Nickel package into your defense, which will benefit the Saints greatly. Also, the fact that they got rid of Williams is even better since Williams loved to blitz too much, and gets burned a lot by any QB with a brain (Read: Managed to get torched by Alex Smith).

If anything the pieces they've lost have been replaced/bettered in this free agency, and while they don't have a 1st round pick in the draft (Bill Belichick: Hermit of the Draft Trades) they can use their picks to get luxuries. The thing they hurt the most on is losing their coach, who is one of the better Offensive play-callers in the league. Having Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles in the backfield is a plus on that front, it means they don't have to get crazy with their play-calls to force a passing game. They might hurt in losing Carl Nicks though... I'm not sure. We'll see how that plays out.

They're definitely an anomaly worth watching.

The Saints signed Lofton because the Falcons didn't want a 2 down linebacker :l

The Falcons have AKEEM mothafucking DENT. Who can play the run well like Lofton and play three downs. Sean Weatherspoon was and will be the best linebacker on the Falcons.

If only we would sign/draft a big DT. Peria Jerry... biggest bust in the past decade.

Jacquizz Rodgers will be a very underrated player on our offense + Julio is nasty and Roddy White is a beast. Offense is solid. Especially with a new scheme.

Defense is a work in progress but signing Nolan will help a lot.

Either way, I fully expect the Falcons to be celebrating in New Orleans February 2013 :D

Also I really hope Arian Foster doesn't beat out Tim Tebow for the Madden cover. If he can beat Tebow he can beat anybody and win. Then he'll get madden cursed and one of my favorite players is ruined :(

NFL votes to apply the same postseason overtime rules for all regular season games as well. It was probably best. They've also required all turnovers to be automatically reviewed, which pretty much makes the coach's challenge useless.

Nike is telling Reebok to get out. I can't wait until I can see the Falcons playing in their new college style jerseys :D. I can imagine the eagles running around with the oregon ducks wings on their shoulder pads.

I heard that he insists on playing QB and refuses to consider other positions, which would make him a no talent idiot. If he concedes he cannot throw a football then he might be able to actually matter in the future.

Well, if there is a turnover but it's not ruled a turnover on the field, it won't be automatically reviewed. Still plenty of situations to use challenges - missed turnover call, catches/non-catches, etc.

I wish they'd just make it so that if a coach successfully challenges a call and gets it correct, they don't lose the challenge.

No talent is still pretty harsh. No talent doesn't throw for over 300 yards against the steelers in the playoffs (even if it was on their worst day). No talent would be a normal human like you and I ;D

Jesus, i dislike the guy but seriously... He is obviously talented, just not that good at passing. He's a virgin so i think he deserves some respect.

I'm an atheist and i dislike him. So i'm just saying to acknowledge he has talent otherwise he wouldn't be in the NFL.

Excuse me? What's that?

Well, he did :P
That surprised me tbh with all the Tebow bandwagoning, but at least that means more good players are in r2 now.

also, somehero, as far as i know

Hey look someone mixing up what talent versus practice means again. Tebow has practiced to learn to heave a football down the field better than you or me, but he does it worse than anyone else to have started NFL games in recent memory. He throws the ball straight into the ground every 2nd-3rd play, so I have never seen a more untalented passer in my life. The Steelers played cover 0, it was retarded and crazy. You could spend time watching and contextualizing sports instead of just trolling and calling people out all the time.

(...well, Tebow just funded to build a low-cost hospital here in my country.)

The guy is playing pro and in NFL of all places... No talent is pretty extreme to say and too much hatred. Maybe you could just say he's not the best QB around.

Who will start at QB for the Jets this year? Personally, I think that it will be Sanchez, since he is a 'traditional QB' and Tebow really isn't. I think that the media has hyped the Tebow thing way, way, way too much out of proportion. I can understand the Jets getting Tebow, as he is a decent backup QB, he has a great work ethic, and overall seems to be a good person. I can also understand Tebow's press conference, oddly enough, just because of Tebow's popularity with the media. If Tebow were not this popular, that press conference would not have happened.

No one really addressed this, so I'm posting it again.

Basically, Sanchez is the more 'traditional' and more experienced quarterback that the Jets have, whereas Tebow has more running ability and a good work ethic. I think that the media is hyping this up too much, and that Sanchez will start most of the games. (barring some unforseeable circumstance, of course.)

Also, to some other things:

I don't think that the Saints will have many problems. They have roughly the same offense as last year, and some good free agent signings on defense. I also think that the Falcons will also be in the playoff race, along with the Panthers IF the Panthers get a defense.

I like the new overtime rule for the regular season, as it makes games a little more fair, in my view. It will make overime games that much more exciting, as teams will be more aggressive to get touchdowns instead of field goals.

Also, there's no such thing as luck, really. Its just what people preserve to be luck, mainly when unlikely things happen.

Finally, I think that the Jets may just need to get rid of Santonio Holmes, if he is that much of a cancer in the locker room.

What the heck do they need Brandon Jacobs for? They want to back up their injury prone downhill runner with another injury prone downhill runner? I thought Kendall Hunter was pretty good in relief of Gore tbh, and Jacobs is a known personality issue. Just doesn't make sense to me...

So McNabb(the greatest QB in Eagles history) is saying what we all know... That the RGlll experiment will fail miserably. He has inside knowledge on the team, so i'm inclined to believe him.

Oh and the fact that running QBs have never amount to anything supports this.

Why would they get rid of their best receiver? He was just pissed that Sanchez sucked too much. Which i think is a good excuse to get pissed at.

49ers sign Brandon Jacobs to a 1 year deal. Lol. Next it will be Eli Manning, Victor Cruz, perhaps Justin Tuck too?

Osi is more likely... He wants mo' money. But i'm not sure if the 49ers would want him.

So they can run the ball 40 times a game maybe? And yes he has a personality, but its nothing that bad. Just talks a little trash sometimes.

1. McNabb is just bitter because he's old and terrible and no one wants him.

2. Steve Young would like to have a chat with you.
