"Art"

I've got another art thread somewhere but I haven't touched it since February and it's probs all gross and shit so I wanted to start a new one.

Anyways, I can't draw very well. I like to draw, but I need a lot of work. Though I can really only do so much using the line tool in gimp and a mouse to colour. I draw Pokemon and really only Pokemon. OCs mostly too, cos I'm into that. Some of these have funny titles because I name them for the song that inspired me to draw it. Ask me to draw something I might do it if I like the 'mon. Higher chance if it's an OC. Lemme know if you want it shaded, flat, sketch, etc. Constructive criticism is loved. That being said, if you wanna tell me my art is really bad, that works too.

Rampardos used Rock Polish!

Hmmm.... Very nice..... I like the simpe use of colour, and the lineart is absolutely perfect. I would suggest trying to do more dynamic poses though, as it never hurts to try! I would also advice not to do too much of one character over and over again. As I said before, try different things out and it should help. That aside though, I like your artwork, and I can't wait to see more!

Thank you! I have been recently trying out new poses and such since yeah I tend to use the same ones over and over. Finding decent references is a bit tough though. I've also been trying to branch out from just drawing Kaitii, but it's not going too well, so I tend to have to rely on requests to actually draw something else. Thank you for the advice, glad you like my work :3

I got a few sketch ideas for Rampardos done so I'll finish up one of those when I remember!

Finished up another request. My OTP.

The Gastromin picture was pretty cute. I liked the torterra picture too because it was simple yet much more interesting.

ahaha that's something new. Letting himself shine in the only way he know.

I've looked through your other stuff, and you really seem like a hard worker, particularly so since you can keep an ask-me tumblr active. I particularly like the image with Flygon and your shiny Umbreon character, seems like a real touching moment.

There's still some aspects you can improve, however. Your Rampardos has shades both on top of him and below him, so deciding on one light direction and then sticking with it is important. If you find that one light source makes drawing the shades difficult, try a different angle and see if things go better.

Some smaller details to the lineart can also make it seem more alive and natural, like small bumps, folds or scales. Whatever you can think of, although you obviously don't need to cover the entire creature with smaller details, just where it's appropriate so that things don't look cluttered. You can also use shades or light reflections to add more subtle details you don't want in your lineart.

This is a good mindset. Learning how to draw other creatures, objects as well as humans broaden your options and can in the end combine several features from all of the shapes you know. I too know of the troubles of finding dependable references when I'm in search of something specific, but when that doesn't work, you can search for something similar to it. Like how Shinx used a martial artist for a Blaziken reference.

You might as well check out the other links in our Professor Smeargle thread, you should definitely find some inspiration there.

That's right, and once he's done he'll be outspeeding everything!

Yeah, I try to draw whenever possible since I'd really like to improve my art because it's how I express myself. That image is actually a really good example, since it was drawn almost immediately after my boyfriend said "Trust me I'm not letting you go that easy." I'm actually really glad you like it because of how much it means to me.

Yeah, I've really had some issues with shading before, and I've improved slightly but I just can't really grasp the concept of lighting very well. I'll try to work with different angles though, thank you!

Usually my sketches have those kinds of smaller details, but since I have to scan things and trace over it with the line tool in GIMP, some of those details kind of just get left out. I find details rather hard to do when using the line tool, but you're right some small details really can make it look better. I haven't thought about using shades/light to add detail, I'll be sure to try that out.

I've tried that before, I used some crazy things like a human for a Glaceon reference. Actually I think I may have used humans for a lot of Pokemon now that I think about it x3 It's a bit difficult sometimes, but humans make pretty good references sometimes.

I've checked out a couple of them and they were actually really helpful, thank you very much for all the advice, it's really appreciated!

You've drawn most eeveelutions, but you seem to have left out the most important one...can you guess what it is? *cough cough* not flareon, leafeon, or vaporeon *cough cough* i request an espeon please!
