I reckon there's enough playability and length in New Super Mario Bros. 2. I've actually left it on the shelf for a while despite not getting every single massive coin.

NSMB2 just sent out a free classic level coin rush pack and I have to say it's a blast. I haven't downloaded any other of the coin rush packs but this has a ton of little secrets in it despite having played 1-1 in Mario Bros tons of times before.

Has anyone played Code of Princess yet? I want to see if it's anything worth getting...

I'm really looking forward to getting these games, and I think my wallet would enjoy a normal 3DS better...
Animal Crossing ftw
Also, are they going to release the Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright game in Amercia? I really hope they do... :c

Speaking of Phoenix Wright, Phoenix Wright 5 is coming out too...

Can't wait for my next paycheque and Xmas. Haven't bought a new 3DS game in ages! How good is Kid Icarus? I've never played a game from that series before, so will that affect how much I enjoy it?

So far I have Mario Kart 7, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario 3D Land and Spirit Camera. The first three are excellent, the latter is really short and not as immersive as it should be. I'm thinking I'll get Luigi's Mansion 2 at some point for sure, but I'm not entirely fixed on what else I want. I should probably get something that isn't Mario-related but is still good at some point.

@MapleDoom: They have been hinting to a western release of PL vs. PW. There hasn't been any official news announcing such, but we can all still hope like the diehard fans we are.

@Jangrafess: Kid Icarus is fun and you don't have to have any knowledge of the only other game in that series (the NES version that is). It has lots of puns and dumb jokes that quickly grow on you. Plus, the controls are so wacky, that it's hard to put down until you figure them out. I highly recommend it.

Oh god, Nintendo, make my dream come true! <3

Now that I have a 3DS, am I the only who thinks this console is really painful to just casually hold? It's got a bunch of sharp edges and pokey bits on the backside. I have to hold it pretty daintily to avoid them.

I have not had a problem with that. Is it an XL or a normal one? I have the normal one.

I have both (regular and XL) and just tried to injure myself. Didn't happen. Maybe you picked up the masochist edition by accident?

Regular 3DS. I'm not injured, it's just really uncomfortable. The two pokey bits on the bottom backside, and the rectangular edge between the backing and the rest of the device.

I didn't notice while playing Virtue's Last Reward, but anytime I use the frankly stiff circle pad my palms and pinkies rub up against these hard parts and it is irritating.

I bought a regular 3DS at the launch price, and personally I never found it "uncomfortable". In fact, I actually find it quite comfortable. My hands really aren't super-small, but not that big either (my hands are big enough that I find the GBA SP uncomfortable). When I played the 3DS XL, I found its size difficult to get accustomed to. It's not that it was too big for my hands, I simply found it hard to adapt to its size after years of playing 3DS-sized portable systems.

Lol pokey bits. Sorry, I jus think that sounds funny.

But I do know what your talking about, I think they're there to help keep the 3DS in place when you put it on the stan. I haven't had any trouble with them, but if you're having such a problem with it, you always could file them down.

I don't notice the little pokey bits, but this may be because I tend to hold things strangely due to grip issues. I don't rest the back on my palms, and I never noticed anything weird about that; I tend to hold the sides in my palms if anything. Consequently, I do notice the hard edges at the front digging into my hands a bit though. (I, too, own a regular 3DS.) I wonder if there's padded casing for the 3DS that would ameliorate this problem? I'm gonna do some research now and see what I can find, because it's been annoying me a lot lately.

I can't find my DS Lite or regular DS to confirm if they had the same issue, but I don't remember the plastic feeling as hard against my skin.

In other news, I picked up several 3DS games for my birthday Alice Day! I got Kid Icarus: Uprising, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, and Pokémon White Version 2 (which is a DS game but I might as well include it), and I have Paper Mario: Sticker Star on preorder, since it comes out on the 8th of December here. And I also preordered Virtue's Last Reward (as a huge fan of 999); it came out here last week, but my local store doesn't have a shipment and I wanted a physical copy, so I'm waiting on its arrival. I'm so excited for it! I'm currently playing through Layton and I think it's one of the best Laytons yet in terms of charm and feeling, though I think other games had better puzzles. (Also, the minigames are so funnnn. And there are a lot of extra puzzles you can get, so nbd.)

Nerf always makes the big, foam cases. It look bulky and ugly, but you don't get a 3DS because it looks cool, now do you?

One of my few regrets in life is not waiting for the pink 3DS, because it's my favourite shade of pink; I stupidly bought a blue one with OoT3D, forgetting that Nintendo love to make variations. However, I do not have a pink 3DS, so thank you for the suggestion! I'll look into it. Not a huge fan of foam's texture, but they might not be bad at all.

I've been playing around with Sticker Star a bit and I have this to say, it's a puzzle action RPG. Sure you don't level up but the game has it's nice way of expanding the stickers you can get. So this game will end up punishing you if you just keep all those fancy stickers in your binder for when you 'might need them' and never end up using them. I have been keeping stickers only to place them in the museum which doesn't do much except give you some interesting text for the items and gives you damage amounts for the attack stickers. You really only level up your HP and sticker pages. If you want a classic Paper Mario RPG you're not going to find it here. The roulette wheel to use multiple attacks isn't anything to write home about either. This really is a handheld Mario RPG and the individual levels really help with that feel.

Without sounding hypocritical I am replaying Thousand Year Door since I rushed through the game at release with a rental. It wouldn't be too bad to have more of the Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi style RPG's. But I think it's fair to say in some sections the puzzle mechanic certainly takes priority over the battle system.

Getting a 3DS for Christmas and picking up Mario and Pokemon ad infinitum. What else is good besides JRPGs and remakes?

If you go by reviews, you can use this site as a general guide. It includes eShop games as well. Total percentage for the game is the average of every major company review, so it's usually pretty accurate.

Never base your opinions off of review aggregates. Sturgeon's law applies to critics too, and besides which the gaming press is astoundingly corrupt and grades most games on a scale of 7-9.

i don't think i've ever been misled by aggregate scores, the games that score high have always been good and the games that score low have usually been fundamentally flawed in one way or the other, though I can pick out a few games in the 60%~ range that I enjoyed because I was able to overlook the flaws because I was a fan of the source material (Sonic games mostly...SA:DX having a 63% rating on gamerankings is a travesty).

watching gameplay isn't going to give you much of an idea about longevity, unlockables, replay value, storyline, soundtrack, depth etc and I can think of a bunch of games that had a fantastic opening level and then trailed off horribly so that could skewer your opinion too. There is corruption, especially amongst the official magazines, and there are some reviewers out there who simply have no business reviewing games (i like how gamecritics gave Skyward Sword a 6/10 while IGN gave it a 10/10, I mean, they were playing the same game right?) but on the whole I find aggregate scored like the ones linked to be a really helpful tool.
