League of Legends: Let's Talk About uhhh??

Whenever people actually let me play Malphite in ranked, I always get so giddy.

P.S. he's really awesome right now. That new item, Iceborn Gauntlet? Yeah, it should be renamed the "Malphite Gauntlet". Bonus points if you use Glacial Malphite.

Build him approximately like this:

And nothing really stops you. I scoff at the fools that think they can take on Malphite solo top. I think the Aegis upgrade would be the best item for the last slot. I was going Sunfires I think but that's probably overkill in the armor department.

How do you build when you see your opposing laner rush a Brutalizer (aka Black Cleaver incoming)? Malphite needs at least one of Frozen Heart/Iceborn Gauntlets early, but that's just asking to get molested by BC mid game. Do you rush Warmogs/Randuin's or something?

Usually the dudes that try to stack black cleavers are the top lane bruisers that I have shut down when I'm playing Malph, lol. But, I've found that I'm usually fairly okay with Iceborn/Frozen Heart and Randuin's. I guess I have yet to face anyone that managed to get four cleavers. I imagine I would adjust in that situation.

Right now, I'm 1296 in Ranked, but I've only played like 12 games this season in solo queue so IDK. My goal by the end of S3 is to hit gold so I can collect rewards and not be completely humbled by everyone else on Smogon.

Obviously, actual gameplay is a big part of it, but what are some good streams to watch for players looking to improve their game? I've just been cruising TSM streams since they're my favorite team, but something tells me that's not the best idea (see: subpar tournament performance, Reginald, and Dyrus). Is there anyone specific I should start following?

I would recommend Wingsofdeathx's stream. He is fairly informative when playing. Always discusses what he could have done better as well as what the team should be doing (he mains top lane). Scarra is also pretty solid.

wingsofdeathx is one of the most informative streamers in the game

butbutbutily has a series on youtube called "ult in ten" which hasn't been updated for a while but has a lot of pro players basically playing the champions they're known for and commentating those games

icsullla's youtube channel has almost 250 games extending back well over a year and he's also one of the best commentators i know of, despite being less well-known. studio's youtube channel is good too.

But it's an ARAM...

ARAM pentas count... they are pvp. You can use that logic to say normal pentas don't count, only ranked pentas, because ranked is the most competitive pvp mode. Ranked pentas probably matter the 'most', but a pvp penta is a pvp penta. (Bots are different because they don't function like human players do.) Why not just congratulate him...?

Maybe I seem biased because my only penta is Ahri in ARAM and I'll probably never get a penta as a support main outside of ARAMs, but I wouldn't count that penta if I didn't think ARAM pentas qualify as pentas...

Minwu, our very own Alex Ich. (I never want to see any of you playing AD Yi in ARAMs.)

(I never want to see any of you playing AD Yi.)

FTFY

AD yi is just poop, at least AP yi can get kills and get resets so he can keep doing damage beyond his initial burst. AD Yi you just have to hope the enemy team is stupid enough to not have any: hard cc, exhaust, displacement, and doesn't focus you down.

AD yi is actually growing in popularity in the jungle, along with fiora jungle

i blame cleaver

if uninterrupted, yi has some of the highest single-target DPS in the game and one of the highest snowball potentials next to katarina and above kha'zix - any form of hard CC will destroy him, though. glass cannon assassins definitely have a lot more to play with in season three, though.

It feels like assassins have an easier time than ever before killing AD carries. Even playing as Leona the other day and leading a team with one Rengar saw the opponent's Caitlyn dead in every team fight.

in the jungle you probably want to get spirit of the ancient golem/roa/wits end/frozen heart/some hp item/boots

Yi has a built in 105 AD and 80% AS steroid, and Double Strike. in order to close in without being focused you must be one with The Force, and then you kill everything

I'm not arguing that AD Yi doesn't do shitloads of damage if left unhindered, it's just that your opponents have to be pretty stupid to let him do it. At least AP Yi is untargetable while he is doing damage, and then he can just run around until his cooldowns are up again. He also has a massive heal that makes him virtually invunerable while he uses it >_>

re: cho build, rodan's suggestion is surprisingly not terrible but I wouldn't get rod unless you get fed early so you actually have time to stack it up before game-ending team fights occur. Aegis/bulwark is always a good item for cho, as is basically any tank item. If you need damage I'd recommend Abyssal Scepter (provided your teammates don't already have one) or Athene's Unholy Grail.

Does anyone have a good build for Cho? I haven't played in awhile and it changed up on me.

Top vs AD: Cloth+5, Tabi, Optional Doran's Shield(s), Warden's, Optional Chalice, Frozen Heart, Randuin's, pick 3 of: GA, Sunfire, Athene's, Warmog's, Liandry's, FroMat, Rylai's
Top vs AP: Boots+3, Optional Doran's Ring(s) or Chalice, Abyssal, Spirit Visage, Merc's, Wit's End, pick 2 of: GA, Athene's, Banshee, Liandry's, Aegis->Bulwark, Warmog's, FroMat, Rylai's

Mid: Boots+3, Chalice->Athene's (don't bother with Doran's), Abyssal, Merc's, Rabadon's, pick 2 of: GA, Void Staff, Rylai's, Liandry's, Frozen Heart, DFG (Zhonya's if you're a pussy)

Boots Enchantment: Homeguard/Captain(seriously so much fun)

9/21/0 Masteries, MPen Red, Armor Yellow, MR Blue, AP Quint

Jungle: Machete+5, Boots, Spirit Stone, Optional Sightstone, the big item you rush, Tabi/Merc's, Ancient Golem, any other big items depending on how long game lasts
vs AD: Frozen Heart (the one you rush), Randuin's, GA, Warmog's
vs AP: Spirit Visage (the one you rush), Abyssal (the one you rush if your team has lots of AP), Aegis->Bulwark, Banshee, Wit's End, GA, Warmog's

0/21/9 Masteries, ASpd Red, Armor Yellow, MR Blue, AP Quint

Dont sleep on AD Yi, ran a game with a good friend of mine who came flying out of the jungle in the middle of a teamfight with a SoTD active and ended up with a penta.

Does anyone have a good build for Cho? I haven't played in awhile and it changed up on me.

Personally I just go for a little bit of armor/MR and then just stack a crapton of AP.

Core is usually:

MR boots/Wit's End/Spirit of the Wraith/Golem

For BIG DAMAGE I like:

Rabs + Void Staff, when you feast someone and you're sitting on a shitload of AP people just dissappear into your belly.

For defensive items I like:

RoA/Iceborn Gauntlet/Frozen Heart/Rylai's/Bulwark/Abyssal, really just depends on the situation, I always fill in a little differently depending on my squad and who I'm up against.

For the lulz I like to run attack speed cho with:
Zerk greaves/Malady/Wit's End/Nashor's. Makes Vorpal Spikes shred people to death. Works in hilarious ways with some AP finishing out the build.

what are everyone's thoughts on flask?

i find it to be an absolutely superb starting item on just about any laner. support can start flask+wards and play much more aggressively than with just faerie charm+wards+1 pot. top or mid lane can buy flask, a ward, and five potions.

It's a decent buy first back on a jungle as well sometimes too. Having a few pots every back early game = you get to stay in and farm longer. Kind of underrated at this point, I barely see anyone using it.

doublelift started vamp on twitch today in a scrim against quantic

nhat nguyen subbed as support, playing nami

anyway he went for flask right after vamp, with no boots (whether this would have been different had nhat not been on nami, i'm not sure).

on a more urgent note if nhat nguyen becomes CLG's full-time support i'm going to be very happy (although nhat has said before that he's not interested in playing competitively)

Just had a really ridiculous comeback in a premade. We were over 20 kills behind due to random Teemo instalocking mid and feeding GP and Poppy having an unfortunate early game vs Irelia. Poppy still shit on Varus in fights though and we finally wisened up and stopped letting Akali do the same to all of us one by one. Stealing two dragons from them also helped slow down their momentum 8)
