Super Smash Bros 4 (Spoilers ITT)

I won't lie, I originally thought the AC Villager was a bad joke, but the series of memes on the front page finally enlightened me as to how awesome he is.

Now the Wii Fit trainer, that is a bad joke...

Hey Namco don't pull any Pac-Man stuff in this game, you have one chance to put your best character from the best Gamecube RPG, Tales of Symphonia

Lloyd_Irving.gif

I will die happy if Lloyd Irving is in this game, the Tales games are essentially Smash RPGs. They have his A moves, just need to pick which B ones (give me some Demon Fang, Sonic Thrust, Rising Falcon, Sword Rain even?) and his Mystic Arte as the final smash.

Then also get his original VA, the last time he cameo'd in a game it was Soulcalibur Legends (or heck even ToS2) and that was not enjoyable at all.

The big-ass list of all the RPG characters they already have:

  • Pikachu
  • Jigglypuff
  • Pokemon Trainer
  • Lucario
  • Marth
  • Ike
  • Link
  • Zelda/Shiek
  • Ganondorf
  • Toon Link
  • Ness
  • Lucas

That is more than any other genre (edit: minus action-adventure but that's basically just "we don't know what to call this"), including platformers. It's unlikely that more than half of those will get cut, so we don't need another RPG rep. At most Isaac from Golden Sun, because that's actually a Nintendo thing.

Hmm...I'd love to see Issac from Golden Sun, but animated to you know, actually look like him in the game (ie realistic), not that lame-ass cartoony Assist Trophy version in Brawl...god that animation made me want to puke.

A Custom Robo character would be awesome, I'm really disappointed there have been no new ones in forever.

If you're going to use some oversaturation argument against me for Lloyd Irving you might as well have done a general 'sword' category but ok. That would have been reasonable.

I do expect Namco to push in one of their own since they are helping with this game, I really hope it's something relevant to Nintendo in the same way Megaman was instead of some Scorpion in Injustice level cameo where it's just 'a popular character from another fighting game'.

Also I can't see Pac-Man having enough moves to be a reliable fighter, even putting Pac-Man Adventures into the mix.

People call Legend of Zelda an RPG not because it descends from early gaming attempts at replicating tabletop games (which it doesn't, at all), but because:

A) A gaming magazine once did it so they could pander and put OoT and LttP on another top 50 list, and other gaming magazines and readers (and apparently the game company itself) can't always think for themselves.
B) Because it feels like a game of D&D what with being vaguely fantasy and all that. Granted given that tabletop RPGs cover a far wider range of subjects than just fantasy, feeling probably isn't a very objective way to approach taxonomy (that thing that used to be a science before pop culture reared it's ugly head). Dead Rising is one of my all time favorite video games because it feels like a tabletop RPG, but it's not one.

Naughty Dog thinks they don't make platformers. Devs need to sell games, and sometimes that means pandering or accepting pandering.

And before you respond, you should probably give some reasons that link not Zelda 2 Zeldas to actual RPGs.

I'm going to be honest, I'm really going to miss being able to use GC controller. It was basically perfect for Smash Bros.

Guess I'll learn how to wiimote then.

I actually always used the Wiimote for Brawl, with a few changes it worked just fine. I figured it was just as well to learn to play it a new way rather than clinging to the past. Not like the GC controller is great in and of itself either...

what are you guys doing lol are you trying to look as bad as smashboards right now?

cant we be better than this?

No one's arguing about tiers yet.

Uh oh

On the contrary, I'm loving this new controller. Z buttons that are wider than my fingernail are very helpful, as are the triggers instead of the old L/R buttons that made you go to war with the spring. Also the C-stick is above the main four buttons now, meaning that you won't have to claw nearly as often. My only concern is the placement of the B button, although I think it's relatively in the same place it was before.

Iron Kenyan we're not even close to as bad as them in any regard.

I don't really think the genre the characters from carries much weight to it. There are a few softly implied criteria amongside the four big ones like no one series should have too many characters, but I've never really heard anyone else argue that no one genre should dominate. To add, I think the debate on whether or not Zelda is an RPG or not is kind of silly and we should move back to smash.

Most likely the game will allow the use of the Pro Controller and the Tablet (I think they used that in the E3 video I linked a while ago?). Both are pretty much exactly the same as the gamecube controller with the C-stick and buttons swapped.

Melee and Brawl broke all of my Gamecube controllers, so I had to get used to the Classic controller. This didn't take long at all, and it'll probably be my main controller for the next game. The Gamecube controller is great, but it's not like it's impossible to play and enjoy Smash without it.

Hmm. I guess that would work. Still, the GC controller will always hold a special place in my heart.

Side note, any new characters announced yet/old ones returning for sure? I want Falco in for sure.

Pacman would be so much worse than Wii Fit Trainer, Mr. Game and Watch had much more potential as a character than even Pacman. For that matter, why are we even trying pick a Namco character? Put more Nintendo characters in.
