not that i disagree with you, though.

As well as Mirror's Edge 2. Pants were shat by the masses at that moment.
i think many pants were shat at e3 for a lot of things
kingdom hearts comes to mind holy shit how the people rejoiced where i was.

[&& watch dogs looks pretty sweet though i've never played star wars battlefront despite being a star wars nerd. i'm not really the best at dedicated shooters and i think that's what those are? still pretty cool tho]

Not even a vote for Ubisoft? Watchdogs at least entitles them to have more votes than EA.
Granted I didn't watch the EA conference but I can't imagine them having much to compete with Watchdogs. Sides maybe Mirror's Edge two.

if we're going by individual conferences: microsoft had the best one.

but if we're going by who will sell the most: sony

lol @ nintendo voters. were they even at e3? how can you win without showing up and then having the worst conference of the 3 :evan: . nothing they showed would make me go out and want to buy a wii u
Technical mishaps and five hundred dollar price tags does not a good conference make. I will say that this was Microsoft's best conference in years for the fact they got all the Kinect + Social Media stuff out of the way in the Xbox One reveal, but that has a very low standard to rise above.

My personal favorite of the conferences was Nintendo's, but I can't say they won E3. A lot of their titles and announcements seemed hit or miss. For me personally, I was an outlier where everything was hit hit hit.

I'd say Sony won E3. All they really had to do was present themselves as focused on games rather than social media and drm nonsense. Not only did they do that, but they unveiled some spiffy games and outright shat on Microsoft when they unveiled their policies where close to a polar opposite.

surely i'm not the only one who looks for hilarity in the presentations, too?

and i don't mean "awkward-laugh-slide-away" or "laugh-because-of-how-bad-they-were" but actually amusing

for that i can't decide between these two:

because i thought they were both really funny idk

Agreed that if microsoft had this kind of conference for XB360, it would've been awesome to get so many exclusives.

I am a hardcore Nintendo fanboy (I've never even owned any non-Nintendo consoles), but seriously, Sony knocked it out of the park. I know this was all fed by Microsoft's douchebaggery, but Sony did everything they needed to do and then some. I seriously appreciate the confirmation of the Fairy type and SSB4 gameplay and trailers (and Mega Man!), but I'm sorry; I gotta vote Sony if I had to choose who "won".

I voted Ubisoft. Watchdogs gameplay looked really good, The Division looked pretty damn cool, Assassin's Creed looked nice other than the ps4 freezing or w/e. The Crew also looked pretty good. Don't remember everything else off the top of my head but I remember being pretty impressed by Ubisoft (the only thing was that Watchdogs and Assassin's Creed footage were shown during Sony).

The main reason I didn't vote for Sony is that they didn't have a ton of exclusives. A lot of their stuff is also available for the Xbone, which will sell some to the loyal fans.

As much as I'm a Nintendo fanboy, and I'll probably get the WiiU sometime this year or early 2014, I wasn't that impressed by their stuff. We heard talk of a 3d Mario, and while 3d World does look good, a 64/sunshine/galaxy type game would have made me so much happier. The lack of anything about the new WiiU Zelda was disappointing, as was the fact that Retro's new game was another DKC. Kart, Smash, and Pokemon are all good, but there isn't much innovation there (mainly talking about Pokemon, Kart and Smash don't need much innovation).

I think a lot of it is about the way they (and everyone else) handled things though. Pretty much the only surprises were DKC, which was a disappointing surprise, and Megaman in Smash, which, as nice as it is, probably won't affect things that much. In a vacuum, Microsoft's conference probably wasn't that bad, but that's only because they got all the negative out of the way earlier.

Sony won hands down by being the anti-Xbox, but Nintendo was more than good for second, reminding me why I still need to get a Wii U eventually.

Microsoft started off strong. They had a good conference and showed off some awesome games and exclusives (Sunset Overdrive). But then came the BF4 and Crimson Dragon tech issues and the rape joke when demoing Killer Instinct. Seriously what the fuck were they thinking? Not to mention the price, which was way over what analysts were predicting.

Sony started late. Then Jack Tretton appeared and looked like he was on xanax. It took them a good 45 minutes before we heard anything PS4 related, and the mention of Vita without anything notable (price drops, AAA title etc) made it a useless addition. Then they finally show the box. I think it looks great. It's not very big, and small consoles are huge for me. Next they ruin 20 minutes of their conference with TV and movies stuff. We know it has capabilities like that, you are run under Sony, it wasn't unnecessary to mention them. FFXV and KH3 own the show, but then we find out they are not exclusives. DRM and used-game policy being thrown in the conference was nice. So was the price.

Nintendo played it super safe and showed games we knew were coming. Many of you think that's good, but it's not. Their sales suck. They need to innovate, they need to develop new IP's and they need a better business model. I would not be surprised if the Wii-U only sells for the last 3 months of this year and then continues to struggle until mid/late 2014 when the remaining big titles drop. Retro's game being announced as DK was a huge disappointment for me, but at least Retro seems to enjoy developing it. On the brightside MK8 and X look excellent. Wind Waker, however, does not.

EA: Great games, meh company. Battlefield 4 looks excellent. Mirrors Edge 2 is a game I've been anticipating for a long time, and today's announcement that it was going to be open-world (just like every other fucking game at E3) sounds awesome. And of course Battlefront 3.

Ubisoft: Every year they ruin their conference with their retarded selection of who they want to host it. I don't care if you speak little english, just show good games and stop paying unfunny people to host such an important event for a company as big as you.

So, from best to worst:

Sony > Microsoft > EA > Nintendo > Ubisoft

yeah the ubisoft was painful to watch but i didn't base my vote over which conference was more/less entertaining, otherwise i'd have given it to sony for tretton's shit-eating grin after announcing the shit that was purely to shit on microsoft

None of their games interested me tbh. Their racing IP seemed average, I've seen too much of Watch_Dogs already, Tom KUHLancy (as Mr. Caffeine would say) was underwhelming to say the least, and after the Rayman Legends fiasco I have no idea why they continue to show that game when it's almost confirmed complete.

I stopped playing AC so Black Flag looked like half the game I've always dreamed of: a pirate simulator where I can customize and control a ship. Some sort of civilization inspired game or something. Large scale battles on the sea, maybe throw some kraken's or something in that bitch, idk. Pretty much Pirates of the Caribbean as a whole new IP.

1A: Nintendo (more impressive games, less impressive technoloy)
1B: Sony (more impressive features, less impressive games)
3: Echiro Oda
4: Ubisoft
5. Microsoft
6: My grandmother
7: McDonalds
8: EA

I'm giving first prize to both Sony & Nintendo, Sony for bitch-slapping Microsoft and Nintendo for all the games they showed off. I'll only classify them as "pretty good" though, since Sony didn't show off many exclusives and Nintendo didn't have any real surprises (aside from Megaman in Smash). For the other conferences, I'll go with EA for 3rd place (Battlefront 3 and Mirror's Edge 2? I can get down with that.), Microsoft for 4th place (it wasn't shit, but had nothing to make the Xbone not shit) and Ubisoft for last place (guys, you're not impressing me with CG trailers of games we knew about for ages and a host that wasn't funny last year and is even less funny this year).

I'd say Sony won with the more hardcore ""gamers"", so I picked them since I feel like that's who E3 is really trying to appeal to. However, Nintendo put on a better display to show why you should buy the Wii U and not why you shouldn't buy its competitions.

Can someone explain region locking to me? I literally cannot comprehend what they'd be trying to accomplish.

It's not good for consumers, but it makes the publisher and developer more money. Primarily because:

-Different prices in different markets
-Importing a game for cheaper
-Licensing

But in the end it comes down to more money for the publisher.

Region locking is, in layman's terms, you can't import games. I'm not sure how broad the region is locking (EU consoles might be able to play NA games, but you definitely can't play JP games).

Nintendo's main consoles have been region locked for a while now (not sure about pre-GC, but any console after and including the GC is region locked) along with the 3DS.

Sony's only region locked console is the PS2.

What the Xbone is doing is that if you're out of the select countries, you can't play any games at all due to the 1 hour online DRM thing, so this is taking region locking to a new extreme.

Edit: Faint got to the results and reasons for region locking

I'd say Ouya won. It was so awesome they couldn't even fit it in the building, and the ESA had to block it off so it didn't melt people's faces.
