E3 2013 | RETR-oh no....

I'm not praising them, and they definitely haven't sold me on a console. I'm just totally in awe at how whiny people are over Microsoft and the XBone (the comments in drRobotnik's post are much like what I've seen on other such articles and Facebook in the past few hours). I understand why people are upset, but, y'know, this isn't the end of gaming. Life will move on (I guess it matters more to some than others).

It's true that the PR damage they've done is irreversible. But it's weird to think that, at this point, it doesn't matter what they do or if they do anything, because (most of) the gaming community will hate them anyway.

They shouldn't make fires in the first place.

I'm gonna stop using this stupid fire analogy now; you're bitching at them for fixing a problem. Either that or you're bitching at them for a problem that isn't there anymore. No, they don't deserve praise for doing this, but right now they did something that you wanted them to and you're bitching at them for "backpedaling". This is sending out the message that you don't want them to change their ways or listen to criticism at all, even if it's to do something good. So they won't, and the next time they make a bad decision, they'll ride it until it sinks. Because that's what they think you want.

E; and to add, I wouldn't be bitching if they weren't so adamant about NOT changing a damn thing up until now. If they had fixed this gigantic fuck up sooner, this blowback wouldn't be as bad.

The fact that there is a "blowback" is the issue. This should just reset things to neutral, but no, there has to be bitching and fear mongering because Xbox are the bad guys.

if they don't put out the fire it'll burn their house down
their loss

Then why did you care in the first place?

I was more laughing at them for the backpedaling after they spent all the time up to E3 and for the week after saying that what they were doing was good. That's fuckin' hilarious. What I'm bitching about is people immediately forgiving them.

I also kinda just wanted to see them crash and burn entirely because that's always a good show and they kinda deserve it for being fucking idiots.

Why even debate if you're just going to say "I don't care lol"?

because it's fun?
that's like asking why do you participate in a pokemon tournament if you won't be upset if you lose - or didn't even think you'd win to begin with.

also maybe i just didn't care about microsoft
ohhhhh

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying that "I don't really care" isn't an argument and saying that immediately makes you a neutral party. If you really enjoyed debating, you would've actually come up with a counterpoint and stayed on your own side.

edit: might as well be relevant; I was never going to buy the Xbox One, I only cared about the really bad stuff to laugh at it and now I don't really care. The only thing that I care about is how people are acting toward Microsoft right now, bashing them for doing exactly what they wanted.

oh, i get it. yeah, i've always been truly a pretty neutral party, but i took the side of anti-xbox since it'd be pretty hard to fight for microsoft without reeeeally pulling at strings imo.

i do agree that it's pretty stupid to bash them for changing, however...

morgan
i'm thinking they sort of threw their reputation in the toilet with that

morgan
mostly because of how adamant they were about how great it was and practically shoving it down peoples' throats

morgan
and then suddenly they flop

morgan
dafuq

and they also provided insight into overall character i'd say

Arekusu-kun
yeah, sharing games, though...
should your friend have to pay to borrow a toy? so why should they have to pay to borrow a game? that idea was retarded

morgan
i don't think they did, though?

Arekusu-kun
if you put a game registered to another xbox one into the wrong "one", your credit card would automatically be charged for the game

morgan
ah okay but still it wasn't retarded they just wanted to take advantage of people

morgan
i guess they thought that the consumers would be more accepting/stupid than they actually are and they had the crap kicked out of them for that mistake

Not bothering to read through the last few posts but I'm gonna beat the dead horse once and watch what happens.

Using the fire analogy one more time. You're saying that no one has the right to bash them for setting their own forest fire and then putting it out, right?

Except solving this problem lessened the overall hate towards the Xbone. We bash them less for solving it than from not and we'll buy more of them. They might get a little more immediate hate, but in the long run it's much less and they know this. Look at people like Theorymon, who as I recall was definitely not buying it. Now it's a maybe.

Of course there should still be blowback. Microsoft revealed pretty clearly that they were strongly for this kind of thing and/or really stupid after they stayed the course at e3 after all the negative feedback. That means that they might try something similar in the future. No, they're not going to just stick it on the system a year later, but who knows what kind of stupid crap they might try to pull?

The reason I personally bash them for this decision is that they made it way too late. By staying the course at e3, Microsoft looked like a complete asshole, but one who had done the math, done his homework, and concluded that this made financial sense. By changing it, Microsoft is still a complete asshole, but one that has no idea of what he's doing.

Edit: Yes, the last paragraph I wrote addresses this. Most of those comments don't give the 'I will bitch at anything' message, they give the message I said above.

They're definitely justified in bashing Microsoft for the shit they did. The issue is that they're bitching at Microsoft for getting rid of things that people vocally criticized, which is hypocritical and will give off the message that you will bitch about anything, and feedback from those kind of people doesn't matter.

some people already made their next-gen console choices years ago it seems

well fanboyism/brand loyalty exists, right? people are also still po'd for a variety of reasons.

actually it does, because those people still have money. i don't believe they're bashing microsoft for correcting themselves, but because they did it so late. i'm betting that if they did it right away people'd be fine. it's just that the company was so adamant that what they were doing was awesome and were seemingly oblivious to complaints until suddenly changing their minds. their arrogance - and then their chickening out - is what people are pissed about, i think.

It's not a question of being pissed off at this point. It's just a vote of no confidence.

Nintendo: "I will not defer. I come before you to resolve this attack on our sovereignty now. I was not elected to watch my people suffer and die while you discuss this invasion in a committee! If this body is not capable of action, I suggest new leadership is needed."
/pause
"I call for a vote of no confidence... In Chancellor Microsoft's leadership."

Gamers: {Vote now! Vote now! Vote now!}

Sony: "Now, we will have a new Chancellor... A strong Chancellor. One that will not allow our tragedy to continue."

actually it does, because those people still have money. i don't believe they're bashing microsoft for correcting themselves, but because they did it so late.

That's some people, for a lot of others their complaints would still fit if they reversed it immediately (ex. "Microsoft are a bunch of backpedaling flip-floppers, that makes them bad", "they changed it so what's stopping them from putting it back later?", "you're not stopping publishers from doing stuff like this so it's barely an improvement", "you have already shown your true colors, that means you will always be evil because no one can ever seriously change", "I was never going to buy it anyway I was just complaining because le reddit rabble roused me", etc.).
